Finally, there is a light at the end of the tunnel for american soccer. I'm proud to be american. Not just because of our countries history but, the fact that my favorite sport in the world is looking so promising for us. I do believe that we can win a world cup with all of the young potential and especially now that everyone in america believes in the team!
@DEAD69maget Hey man don't bring that into this. All of the people here are just trying to enjoy this great series about American soccer and you come on and comment about politics? Why? That's unnecessary and stupid
Ah right, sorry I missed the "obvious" reference to an American supporters club's use of the word massive. S'just pointing out that the more football grows State-side, the better the national sides will be in a few years.
Give it a decade, perhaps a little longer, you'll see teams coming from America owning all comers at the World Cup. Be drawing from a massive pool of talent before long for the league teams, has the potential to be massive. Over-using the word MASSIVE here. M A S S I V E
A confederation cup is nothing compared to a world cup. Heck, most countries that didn't qualify don't even know what the confederation cup is and the players of the teams that did qualify are more worried about getting out of it without injuries than getting that prize that has as much value as becoming football champion of Botswana...sigh
I think expecting a World Cup victory is a little too much for the current US squad. But they are quality, and to not get out of group play would be a major disappointment. To see the USA in the quarterfinals is not too hard to believe, anything more than that would probably count as shocking. Its going to happen one day, why not this year?
I'm all for growing the game in the US, and I think you guys give your national team incredible support. But for fucks sake, stop going on about the bloody Confederations Cup. It's a friendly tournament that no one else really cares about.
@MorningJean believe it or not in spain they didn't allow Americans into clubs the night of the loss. if your english i get it its not important if england isn't in it
@joaking66 Lol worthless? Yeah a country that has helped pruge the world of evil dictators more than any other country, and is always the first to back up a struggling nation is worthless.
USA got a strong football team but they wont make it this year..im pretty sure they cant beat spain or brazil at the world-cup cos the confed cup is not as important as the wc..They'll get knocked out at the quarterfinals..
as awesome as our collective support for the USMNT is...we fall far short of supporting the domestic leagues, not only the MLS, but the NASL, USL, USL2 and PDL. When people realize that supporting local teams and clubs will eventually filter into better talent and development systems THEN we'll be a true soccer power. As long as people only support the USMNT and foreign leagues, we're still in the dark ages
@steelarmythug i couldnt agree more. USA's talent must inevitably come from our own soil whether it is MLS, NASL, or what I believe to be most importantly, is college soccer. If our players at the college level can become more competative, you will see an explosion of talent filtering into the MLS. It has to be this way in the USA whether we like it or not.
@AirSasquatch people realize that, but the fact is compared to 20 years ago our country has come a long way. The success of the sport in this country is dependent in the success of the national team, and I say the more big wins (regardless of what "could have happened") the better.
The panoramic shot at 2:37 from the US-Italy game in Kaiserslautern is mine! I've got more videos from all of the US games in Germany '06. Check them out! See you in South Africa!!!!
1930 was the first World Cup and only 7 countries have won it.
