The ZL1 never made 900hp in N/A form, infact the early casting process yielded a weak block and they were notorious for breaking. WTF you mean wrong engine noise? its got a Natural 7.0L LS3 from the ZO6 that produces 625bhp!! how can you go wrong? and its pretty much unbeatable in a straight line and round track.
The 7.0 L engine is called the LS7, not the LS3, the LS3 is 6.2L 438 HP, and the LS7, the 7 liter you're talking about is 505 HP stock with 470 lb. ft of torque.

do you know what Can-Am was? 1970's they had mclarens powered by 900hp N/A Corvette motors from the 1969 ZL-1 vette. The ZL-1 actually got it from the mclaren. (At least the all aluminum version, aluminum heads were just called L-88's)
