  • I love this music

  • it's perfect to me.

  • VICTORY not VENGENCE Is the proper way to say it!

  • VNV VICTORY NOT VENGEANCE

  • try to interpret the lyrics as though it were all about procrastination, its kinda comical

  • @blb I personally feel that it is. It's about political procrastination, social procrastination. Avoiding solutions, just tromping forward with the hopes the answer presents itself, focusing on how we've done things in the past.

Unfortunately, this is so abstract a concept I can't fathom a reasonable music video for it. :( So planes will have to do :)

  • @silenturbanfox I think the video puts the concept forward in stark relief. It's he defining conflict of the last century, responsible for setting the U.S. on the path to the military industrial buildup that has shaped the course of world events for the last 60 years. It's bigger than just the U.S. of course, but few other countries share as much of the responsibility. But yeah, pretty much everything else that you said.

Also, part of me thinks the stock footage is really cool for some reason.

  • Propably the best VNV song...

  • What rap and hip-hop's texts consists of today: Singing about how much they want to bang whores, how much they want to do drugs, how much they want to have money and so on. Just complete bullshit.

Atleast metal haven't changed a bit. (Unlike pop, rap and hip-hop) I liked those genres before it was filled with cheaply made music videos with hot women just to make people watch it. And cheap texts too. :D

And this song is just.... <3!!!!! I can't stop singing along on the chorus. :P

  • @atatyrknumber1 You just think that because you only know radio rap. Check out Quannum records to start seeing what rap can be.

  • Genius Song. Found this in a playlist and listened to it thrice in a row yet!

  • fuck I love this

  • Chorus..I just wanna listen it over and over again! <3

  • There's a terrible beauty to old war footage. An evocatively mixed video, well done!

  • This is sweet!!! I can totally see the same things ( I see tanks and ships)

You did exellent with this song!!

  • I personally never could get a picture in my head for this song... This works pretty well.

  • Great job, the video works very well with the music.

  • cool interpretation

  • i dont get to see my dad a lot and it reminds me of my dad and his father and stuff. i like the band but i want in the war so i cant say much. this video , to my military friends, they all like.. soo shrug stay cooli will always love them

  • Footage at 2:27, teammate gets in front of gunfire and takes rounds. Whoops! For some reason 4:00 gets sort of emotional to me. Picturing them so young and bonded with each other but now either very old or dead. I get the same feeling when I see old pictures of my grandfather when he was younger than I am now. Makes me feel so mortal.

  • I've listened to this tune about 30 times now, and i can't think of a better message other than that VNV straight up KNOWS the world is going down, and he sings about how we're doing it to ourselfs and were ignoring it, and he's saying that HE is not the only one who's noticed this and he's not alone, and that if something doesn't change then were all gone

  • Great Video & great song by a great artist. Prop's to you for the video!!!

  • Vets and the military ROCK!! They ARE TOP priority. We MUST show total support. God Bless them all.

  • Have you listened to the lyrics?

  • Yes....why?

  • @TBA4Freedom

VNV Nation is a band that tends to inspire deep thoughts & questions rather than promoting prepackaged answers or any form of propaganda. And because of that their songs can often be translated in many ways, but offhand I can't recall a single song by them (including this one) that could be pro-military. In fact, I never connected this song to the military until I saw this vid (see my comment here from 2 months ago).

Just curious: what meaning did you get from the lyrics?

  • @JaneCochran I think generally VNV is anti-violence, so pro-militaristic would be a long way from their views. Pointing people to the wrongs of violence and war (as happens in this song) is hardly pro-violence or -militarism.

Imo this vid nicely illustrates just how humanity in general fails at the ideals propagated in this song

  • I never thought of the song this way before, but having seen this vid (over & over!), I think it fits it very well. This really does illustrate one way the song could be understood. I think this appeals to me, too, because it symbolizes the great tragedy of our species, of burning paradise to the ground in the name of defending a world based on supposed principles that has never even existed in the first place.

"We speak of greatness that we have never been."

  • "And im not the only one who thinks we're trying to say- to all the heavens and all who hear us behold what we have made, we bring destruction, we bring war without an end. And then we live in hope that tomorrow never comes- that it never comes..." The only text i know better than the lyrics to this song is the bible that i live by...

  • Try living by reason, logic, and faith in yourself, and you'll see your quality of life quadruple overnight.

  • A really great contribution. Thanks for this vid!

  • haha you were right the planes fit this peeeerfectly. I love it. We listen to this at the club all the time.

  • real good video, I like it.

  • Pure magic, What a great song!!!!

  • Great video guy, that fits perfect.

  • 20.09.09 München, Backstage Werk

  • "No pain

    remains

    No feeling"

  • Wow Nice video, it should be the official video clip.

  • hey xtryker1 what is the official clip?

  • I dont know, i just said something like "If there is no official video, this should be the one" :)

  • Not my kind of music really, but a bloody good job done on the video. Thanks.

  • I think it is a kinda nostalgic and visually pleasing mix with the music, good choice ^_^

  • Nice. The album is wonderful, and Testament is my favo track

  • awesome vid. good work!

  • wow seriously great vid man im not normally into fan vids but this is awesome

  • man, i couldnt take my eyes off the video, Great job putting it togeather. Thanks for the footage. I honestly believe, those were the true ace's in the sky back in the day. Guns only, you really gota know what your doing. Id proudly fly a WW2 plane with those guys back then.

  • Good and liberal opinion!

  • this band is awesome. the lyrics mean something too which is good to hear, since america is obsessed with pointless rap/hip hop

  • what? these guys are not American. Ronan is Irish and Mark is from England.

  • i was saying, since i live in america thats all i hear in the media

  • Even though the American media attempts to force feeds the youth a consumable prepackaged pop/rock/rap creations, I wouldn't say America is obsessed with rap, but the media is obsessed with rap. Most American kids and young adults in general are too obsessed with celebrity, generic music, reality tv, fashion, ect... In which case Rap is easy to sell so they "push it, push it real good."

In an attempt to keep us oblivious & subservient, and to prevent creativity & independent thought.

  • I'm American, and I'm not obsessed with rap/hip-hop. I prefer rock, metal, electronic, techno, techno-rock, industrial. Must be you're too obsessed with assuming you know what Americans like.

  • i would bet he meant " in general" one person doesnt make it a fake statement, when McDonalds uses rap beats to sell burgers, i think it would be safe to say that what an1me4l1fe is more correct than a stereotype,

  • Comment removed

  • Or it could be possible people can like both? I can listen to the Roots (for example) as much I can listen to VNV Nation.

  • very nice video, nice indeed!

  • Great video, but war is also fired by religion and patriotism

  • War sucks... The People conquer other Cuntries to get their Money´s or Ground treasure´s...

and than they burn it down like Afrika in the Time of colonization...

  • Love your spelling of "countries". Ya war sucks, but it will exist as long as people keep categorizing, judging and stereotyping each other. Oh yeah, I know its Future Pop, although I never heard it called EBM.

  • Love your spelling of "ya".

  • wow, this is good!

  • I had thought it sounded like it would go well with war plane footage too. Would have had scene changes match the music a bit more, but it's good.

  • This is definitely the best VNV Nation video I've seen. Most of the ones on YouTube are just made up of corny anime.

  • '' and you're not the only one'' who hates those amv's.

  • The point in putting quation marks in that sentence was?

  • Reference to the first line of the chorus.

  • yeah, fuck amvs!

  • AMVs get old fast. I totally agree. I've seen 1 good AMV ever. The one where they crossover the Trigun and Cowboy Bebop footage and mix it perfectly. Other than that, most AMVs suck.

  • Bah. Then you just don't watch Enough AMVs. I have found alot of Great AMVs that I often watch over and over.

  • where'd you get this footage? it's great

  • It's called a music video :D

  • hi Jake :3

  • well... The song... '' and i'm not the only one'' You know..

  • they know that they are sending a word out to the world

  • This is probably one of the best fanvids I've seen for their stuff. Most people throw sh*t together that looks horrid or worse; slideshows. But this has a solid concept, a fitting sense of scenery, a plot, sticks with what it started, and is directed fairly well. Congrats.

  • VNV Nation and Live are definitely great artistic ambassadors. Their spiritual and philosophical approaches are something our leaders should learn a thing or two about. This genre talk is nauseating. Likewise when I write, it could be a prose, poem, or short story. I think whatever sparks your creative juices will work best. Musically, it can be a ballad, replicating noises heard i.e. nature, industrial, etc. VNV seems to have a wide array of influences for their artistic expression.

  • go to their official site there you will learn what kind of music they play

  • Isn't it easier to define by what you hear, rather than what someone else describes it as? The key note is that we are not looking to define VNV, but define EBM or Industrial. Disagreement lies in the definition of genres, not which artists belong to each genre with universally understood definitions. We only have to hear songs to be able to define them. But hearing a genre and defining it is much more complicated.

  • War is what us humans are best at it would seem, love aye, peace... not so much heh

  • GREAT...

  • what kinda music is this? Electro?

  • EBM

    Electronic Body Music or

    Synthpop

  • Actually it's Futurepop, genre they've created to describe their music, Synthpop yeah fits in but I wouldn't say it's EBM though. And btw, great song indeed, VNV 4ever !

  • Ronan regrets ever calling their music "futurePop" So, i just stick with EBM or melodic industrial.

  • Enough with the genres! lmao!

VNV Nation at their best are almost spiritual and transcend lame tags such as 'goth', 'ebm', 'futurepop' etc.

    It's just good music! :o)

  • I would say that it is industrial.

  • Several classifications would work. Industrial, EBM (electronic body music), future-pop, or synthpop. With most music other then symphonies, its imposible to throw it in one category now a days!

  • EBM and Future Pop

  • Future Pop

  • This is FUTURE POP or EBM

  • This is an awesome video!!

  • i agree this is one of there best songs off the new album i also agree with Valdus1 they have awesome gun cam footage mostly shot in the Pacific with some in Europe

  • awesomeness!

  • Very nice ***** !!!

  • This is definitely one of my favorite songs for 2007.

  • Yeah, real nice vid! Good work! Awsome song also.

  • Great song and vid.. : )

  • Good choices in visuals... the gun cam footage is always creepy to see considering you know someone died after it was shot. Fits the song well!

  • Great video, well made!

  • I saw someone cold VnV an emo band.

SHAME ON YOU!!! Never heard of E.B.M?

(for the slow ones: electronic body music)

  • people started calling them emo after they started remixing some shitty track from AFI

  • You know that Ronan actually programmed AFI's album right? Not that it makes VNV emo...just some random fact.

  • yea, this is a rele powerful song, im actually doing this for a school presentatioin

  • Great !!! VNV Nation

  • This song makes you think of guns and planes?

So much rage, so much rage.

    It's aweshum, though.

  • my new favourite VNV nation thank you

  • forgot to add the word "song" never put on shoes and try to post comments

  • oh and, i was wondering how do you make videos like this? i want to but i dont even know where to start.

  • Man, this is a wonderful video. Thank you for making it. excellent video splicing and perfect song choice.

  • And then we hope that tomorrow never comes

    That it never comes...

    Awesome.

  • Yeah, I'd like to know the source(s) of the videos too.

  • well done great vid!!! so many young lives so much potential gone!!

  • YES! this kicks ass! thank you! :)

  • this is the best song on the album imo. the last track made me cry =/

  • spittxez = ultra-conservative prick.

  • Please if somedody have more VNV Nation stuff share it please!!!!!

  • Amazing video

  • YES! PERFECT!

  • Well Done!

  • Indeed, it fits pretty well.

    Keep up the good work!
