I saw that in the newspaper. One heck of a derailment. I heard it was a 3 train crash.

lead engine on train at fault was on fire....I was told that the conductor pulled the engineer out through the front windshield and dragged him to safety.....I was called just a few hours after this happened to bring in a work train full of maintenance materials for the repairs... what a mess

The crew had possibly dozed off and missed signals because it was a middle of the night trip, they were stuck in KC for over 4 hours after their on duty time being help by the dispatchers, it can happen very easily as I have caught myself dozing several times while out there. Its a battle to stay awake, luckily there was no one killed in this accident. They missed a signal and rear ended another train at 55 mph.
