  • This is one of my favorite Motels songs for sure. I saw them live in the '80s a couple of times. They were so great!

  • Learned this song on my guitar when I was 14 years old. Wish the Motles would vedio a quality live performance of it.

  • While Mission of Mercy may not have gotten the radio air time it deserved, I can tell you it got plenty of play in the dance clubs.

  • Why is there no vid for this song? It was less played on 80's FM radio than some of their other hits, but it was such a great tune.

  • @WaldoBlvd good question...how a killer like this got passed up is beyond me...that's why I threw this together with the goofy still pic a few years ago. I was the 1st to post this tune here on youtube.

  • @cb3961 can you upload "its easy" by the motels?

  • FUCK EVERYBODY who does not like this song!!! This is REAL music!!!

  • The first song on the first side of "All Four One".

  • Cool song. I asume, going by the lyrics, the subject is the singers father, .. but what he was ( a secret agent ? .. an adulterer ? ) remains an enigma. Interesting image there too. Don't know how the fuck it relates to the song, .. yet, none the less, it works for it somehow !

  • Loved this song, and still do! The Motels were tighter than a mosquito's ass!

  • @Toyz4twats1 Nice user name. . .anyway, not the mosquito's ass thing but I made the same comment on a Take the L video, this band was tight!

  • the end of one era & the beginning of not another era

  • I fckn love this tune...also had the priv to see them live at the old UA b4 it became a junkbond theme park ala las vegas! you kick assMartha!

  • Before I ever saw a picture of Martha Davis, I wanted her in bed just based on the sound of her voice.

  • Martha could sing a sweet ballad or belt it out and rock your socks off great band

  • Love this song.....awesome.

  • What a great tune, My band used to play this one back in the day.

  • Martha and her music give me eargasms!!! :P

  • Fantastic up tempo tune! Big fat bass line, mean guitar playin' and Martha's powerful vocals. A great driving tune for those long trips down the interstate. Might make you want to put the pedal to the metal, though! The start of this one always makes me think of a tire burning 'burn out'!

  • It was a big hit and it was written by Tim McGovern while he was married to martha davis he also wrote "Tragic Surf" dig it!

  • It was a big hit and it was written by Tinm McGovern while he was married to martha davis he also wrote "Tragic Surf" dig it!

  • great album and collaboration between The Motels and Val Garay as Producer and Mixer....solid ALBUM....unlike many of today's hitlist!

  • Could you please upload the video montage of "Forever Mine"

    Plase, please, please.

  • Great album. Wore it out!!! Love that voice.

  • Sultry.

  • @pacheckoff - You are so correct!

  • timeless rock song, alternative when it had some meaning

  • TODAYS WOMAN SINGERS HAVE NOTHING ON HER NOTHING !!!!

WHATS OUT NOW IS PURE SHIT

  • I AM SITTING HERE ROCKING TO THIS LOVE THE MOTELS

  • An outstandingly catchy tune. I love this. The blend of the voice of Martha Davis with the exceptional band's instrumentals is awesome. Very tight. A flow of continuously appealing and fast paced music for moving and dancing. Sounds incredible on an excellent sound system. A blast to the past music of the early 1980's. Thank you for posting this musical masterpiece.

  • Talk about getting pulled into a song from the opening chord...love the opening!!

  • oldie but a goodie.

  • love this song

  • ya its a cool tune, but does anyone know what its really about? ... hmmmm ?

  • @MrBeatrixKiddo I think it's obvious that the father of the singer went to hook up with a fat chick!

  • The Tubes and Motels. Great R&R bands!

  • Haven't heard this tune in years. Wow--such a great rockin' tune, can't believe it didn't get more airplay. Thanks for posting!

  • This song wasn't very popular even though it should of been. This song was and still is amazing. MOTELS<3

  • This tune rocks!

  • The album this is from, All Four One, is one of the 10 best rock/pop records of all time IMHO. Every song is good. Another overlooked record in the same category is The Completion Backwards Principle by The Tubes. Check 'em out, you'll be amazed how outstanding those 2 records are!

  • @onedrummer55 good call there i always loved outside inside by the tubes to prarie prince awsome drummer back then remember music was catagorized you had the metal stations new wave stations top forty crap and oldies only the top fortyesque only the lonely got noticed by top forty stations people like us had listen to the complete album to really appreciate it man there is so much out there that would blow the younger generations mind its sickening

  • lol ten pin hats...

  • One of the greatest rock songs of all time. I saw the Motels in the early 80's. Martha Davis came out in a full tux, by the end of the show she was wearing just black panties and a negligee. So hot. What a babe.

  • the big "dude"Lebowski

  • Great Stuff. I had the album (Tape) but can't find the sodding thing. Love to hear Tragic Surf.

I'm a Brit that used to surf Huntingdon and Seal Beach in the Early Eighties. This album reminds me of then. Maybe I'll just buy it again.

  • @H20IAN LOL OC BEACHES AND KROQ

sounds like the 80s to me as well

  • Great tune. Wish I could remember it from "The Big Lebowski"!

  • I got this back in'82. This was my old party song. Great guitar and vocals...LOL!!

  • oh my god i used to rock OUT to this song. like over and over i love Martha ! Oh i never knew mercy could feel this way!!!

  • your welcome

  • Thanks for this classic.

Does anybody have "Days OK" by The Motels.

Been looking for it for years.

  • more cowbell!

  • Lebowski

  • Yes Kim- I was there and fel the same way. It is being remembered in S. FLA my peeps jam this and everyone loves it :)

  • This song makes my blood heat up!!! Dance it off girl. K

  • Martha Davis & The Motels were big contributors to the phenomenon that was the Early 80s. They should have gotten much more recognition than they did. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who remembers them. This song and Suddenly Last Summer both remind me of meeting and partying with the girl who became my first wife. These songs take me back to better days.

  • In the early eighties I had a very nice 240Z. I had this album on cassette. I was living on the central California coast. Lots of fast drives to Santa Barbara over the San Marco Pass on my own missions of mercy. Hearing it again now sounds so fine.

  • What beautiful cars those old Zs are. I'd love an old 280 Turbo.

  • You are so right. I had two 240Zs and one 280Z. I look on Ebay all the time for the right old Z car. Easy to work on and fast enough. Parts are available and there is a solid network of clubs. One of these days the soft rumble of a straight six is coming back to my driveway!

  • What year were your 240s and your 280? Yep, they're definitely fast enough. Good luck, I hope you find yourself behind the wheel of one again soon.

  • The first one had been my parent's bought brand new in 1971 for $3711.00 and they had to wait months on a list to get it. The second one was a 1970 I bought from the original owner with 78,000 miles in 1981. The 280 was a 1977 model that was the centerpiece of a crazy relationship. The 280 was a great car and I drove it 300,000 miles plus. I was crazy about Z cars (mostly because I could not afford Porsches). A curving road, some great music and an old Z has a lot of appeal.

  • Oh yeah, old Zs have tons of appeal. I'd happily drive any of the ones you mentioned.

  • hey, i had a 73 240z and that car loved the motels !!!!

  • ....and skibum7986 is Sooo GAY!!!

  • Was lucky enough to see the Motels at the old Universal Amp here in LA in 82 I believe! Killer show and great job of producing by Val Garay I think?

  • love marthas voice...she lays it down...always loved the motels....

  • This is when KROQ radio rocked !

    Murderous track !

    DC

  • Born in CA-raised in S.F. Valley. Haven't thought about KROQ in forever! You've taken me back to another lifetime. Always loved the Motels, too. We used to do Only The Lonely-rocked at the time. Wish we still had music this good today!

  • THIS SONG ROCKS!!!!!!!I always had the hots for Martha.More cowbell[at the beginning]."Only The Lonely" is an awesome song too!

  • This song is boss

    Great Pic

    Cb

  • Killer song!

  • Always like this song...particularly the way it starts out.

  • This tune kicks ass!

  • probably will insult their fans, but this is the only Motels song I ever liked..and I LOVE it. They played Hollywood Park a few years back on a Friday night after the races and I waited just to hear this....and waited...heard all the hits that sound like the same song...and waited....they never played it.

Plus Martha looked like Monica Lewinsky, beret and all. but they WERE better than I expected.

  • Hey, you want me to send you a scan of that original picture sleeve? You could change the picture of this video to that.

  • great song my uncle has the original 45 rpm record with the picture sleeve.

  • the music very special

  • #Fadin' footsteps on hot cement..#

    this is rock poetry..

  • lol

  • Great song!

  • Hella good!

  • This is a major kick ass tune, vocals and music together. I played the solo in a band I was in back when that came out. Back in those days I transposed the keyboards to guitar for a lot of new wave tunes before I got an arp solus.

  • martha kicks gwens butt - but i love gwen too.

  • Nice song. Why a still from the Big Lebowski?

  • had no clue what that pic was from...hey whadda ya want for nuthin'?

  • @cb3961 To see where this still comes from, search for "Gutterballs" and you'll find a video clip from The Big Lebowski -- one of Dude's acid-flashback dream sequences after Jackie Treehorn slips Dude a mickey.

  • @cb3961 BECAUSE THE PERSON FELT LIKE IT ...YOU FUCKING FASCIST CUNT ..ITS NOT A CRIME ...THEY PROBABLY FELT INPSPIRED YOU FUCKING CUNT ...HOPE YOU DIE SOON

  • I'm not a Gwen S. fan but love the Motels from back in the day "80". Could you please make a suggestion to a Gwen song's I can check out? Thanks

  • "The Sweet Escape," was a HUGE hit for Gwen. "Don't Speak," was big hit for her with No Doubt. But go back to "It's My life." by No Doubt. Listen a few times. Then listen to the original by Talk Talk. Then lookup ALL the Motels songs you can find in here... :)

  • Precisely! I like Gwen (more specifically ND) but you nailed it.

Martha is under appreciated and an original.

  • This song kicks arse!

I wish someone would post the "Remember The Nights" video......

  • Martha and Co. are the best people I ever had the pleasure to meet. I treasure everything I have from meeting them.

  • Hard driving rock of quality is a rare commodity - Martha has been delivering for decades!

    More Martha Davis please!

  • Gwen Stefani sounds abit like Martha.

  • Good point, never thought about it-but you're right! I can hear Gwen (much as I lover her) in Martha's songs.

  • Great song. I loved the Motels.

  • I miss this era, I still have this album on a casette!

  • me too!

  • Holy shit ! Used to cover this 'back in the day' and have been trying to find this song for several years ! Thanks for the post ! Rock on, Matha !

  • I get ants in my pants when I hear this song.

  • Martha, you would STILL get it. You can sing too!

  • Love this song. Thanks for posting.

  • Boy do I remember blasting this song LOUD, while cruising in my car, LOL !!

  • Yeah, KLOS here in L.A. used to play this song quite a bit back in the day (82-83). Anyway, I'm still waiting for someone to post the "Take the L" video.

  • ...out of lover and it's ooooo-o-ver...

  • love it! this cut os in the Lp ALL FOUR ONE

  • Thank you,I wish new music was still this cool

  • This song rocked! Never heard it before, got to find what album this is on!

  • It's from their BEST album, ALL FOR ONE. I think it was back in 1982. Same album with ONLY THE LONLEY.

  • Yes you are right

    Regards from Costa Rica

  • you don't hear good music like this on radio...this was such a great band i use to see them at madam wong's in l.a. for $5.oo admission...and martha was really nice and approachable.
