Both cars are equipped with the LS1. I have a 02' Z28 with a LS6 intake BBK Chrome 1 3/4 long tube headers and off road y-PIPE, Corsa Catback exhaust. Complete Racetronix Fuel system with Hot wire kit. Custom EPS Cam 226/234 .598/.601 113 +2 lsa TEA dual Gold Springs ,Trick flow chromemolly pushrods. Yank SS4000 Stall converter. Nitrous outlet 78mm wet plate kit. With all the goodies, FJO nitrous controller. Innovate Motorsports Digital MTX-l Wideband 02 sensor. WS6 was holding back for sure!
wtf are you babies arguing about? I own an 02 SS with headers and full 3" exhaust with a dynomax bullet. I'm neck and neck (dead even, drivers race) with an '02 z28 with headers, magnaflow and underdrive pulley + short throw shifter. An ls1 is an ls1.. weight is a slight factor but really, they're the same car! What's with this complaining? If you have an ls1, you're good. Shut the fuck up.
Look the headers made the difference here. End of it. Why are you guys fighting about which is better. Stock for Stock they're the same. 13.3 1/4 mile times. There the same car, just a lil different body panels. It kills me to see this bickering about two great american machines. They're both badass. If you wanna fight take on the ricers that we all know are slow piles of shit, or the shit-stains.
Yeah... Camaro's are faster than Trans Am's... I know the Camaro has headers... but that's not the reason for the T/A losing. I have a 2000 Z-28 and i wax T/A's all the time. They look intimidating as hell, and VERY sick cars. But there's not much that can handle a LS1.
Attention restaurant customers.... testicles..... that is all
@MarshallTK No i'm definitely not full of shit. Because the exact opposite of what you just said is what i've experienced. So, that makes me not full of shit.
And the fact that you said Camaro's haven't even come close, stock vs stock, goes to show that you raced people that couldn't drive well.
You couldn't just say "a stock WS6 would SMOKE a Camaro"... it's just not something you can rationalize. They're almost the same car, so neither one SMOKES the other. But Camaro's are faster.
@mattman4020 No they are not...ive raced them and ive beat them. My friend has an SS, we are neck to neck to 135 mph then i pull a car and win. And i even looked up the camaro vs t/a because im tired of hearing you SS fans bs.

if both were stock the WS6 would have beaten the Z28, no problem. The long tube headers and the exhaust are the only thing that allowed the z28 to beat the Ws6. Stock WS6 put out 325bhp, while stock Z28's put out 310 bhp. It was a good race though. Wonder if the WS6 was auto?
not entirely true... 00 model LS1's have the messy EGR on their intake manifold. 01-02's have an LS6 intake which gives them about 10-15 more rwhp. when GM made this switch they were too lazy to change the factory ratings, so while on paper you would think that it isn't entirely true. to get a better grasp on what late LS1's put out look up an 04 GTO's power out put. it had the same motor, but with revised specs... not saying youre not right though. the headers helped a lot
Yes, if the guy was wise with his WS6 he would have removed all that mess and replaced it with a straight pipe. Or, like I did on my 1999, drill holes on either side of the resonator and installed high flow motorcycle airfilters on either side... Now I have 3 filters total, and get great airflow. But a stock z28 and stock WS6 head to head? still, my money is on the WS6.
3 filters? I'm confused? you can block off the EGR valve. All you need is a freeze plug to block off the vacuum and a programmer to delete the code. I'm not sure if you know though the LS6 intake mainfold is a completely different part. its actually machined differently to create the better air flow. thats why it gives such a significant gain. they look the same from the top, but the differences are on the inside.
I always heard that the Ram Air induction made the difference, but maybe they couple that with the differently machined intake manifold which really makes the difference??? And sorry about the confusion, my 99 is a formula, not WS6. So it does not have the ram air installed, and behind the airfilter housing is a large bulky resonator that i drilled 2.5" holes on either side of and installed hi-flow motorcycle filters (car sized were to big to clear). And I agree with you on the EGR bypass
Lol yeah that's what the factory wanted everyone to believe. The Intake manifold is the difference between 98-00 and 01-02 LS1's. The difference in the WS6 and non-WS6 cars were suspension upgrades, less restrictive exhaust, and functional ram air. I have a V6 and a WS6 myself. the nose on the V6 is the same as it is on your formula and the air inlets on the nose are actually non functional, so the only air your engine gets to breathe is the hot air from under the hood. that's the differences.
Don't get me wrong. You're right. The ram air and less restrictive exhaust are the differences, but if you actually dyno both your formula and a WS6 from the same year they'll have around the same power out put give or take the inconsistencies between engine to engine (no two engines are exactly equal). But between your car and a LS6 intake equipped models there will be a significant difference. I'm sure you know that the LS6 motor came in the Z06 vettes and an LS6 made around 405hp
yo i have been a mechanic strret head for 12 years there are both gms the z-28 and the t/a adn its talon by chrysler laser by plymoth but thats all mopar there mitsubeshi bought the concept from them just like mazda bought the explorer from ford
No, the Eclipse is Chrysler and Mistubishi. They are usually 4 and 6 cylinder cars with a turbo. The Camaro is Chevy's all motor car. The Eclipse does handle better but in a straight line the Camaro will rip it apart.
yeah I told my friends they were the same like engine wise and interior and then they start jumping on me saying no there not no where near the same but I went with what I said since I was right but had to confirm it so thanks BeaZt28
I have an 02 ws6 trans am stock and my friend I raced had a z28 with headers and borla exhaust and I won by like a half car. Im sure the air that the hood scoop gives is the only reason it won.
The camaro has ram air if the trans am hadthe ram air package it would have 20 extra horses and it would probly be neck n neck I know my stock trans am can take camaros with 2 or 3 car lengths easy even with my low fuel pressure
They are the exact same car. A stock LS1 Z28 will run neck and neck with an LS1 WS6. The ram air adds 10 horsepower, and that only kicks in at around 100 mph. At that point the extra drag created by the hood scoop on the WS6 and a Camaro SS would nullify the horsepower gains.
Nice cars, and as far as the F bodies racing, a little rivalry between cousins won't hurt. Competition spurs growth meaning more dead Mustangs and imports. Oh and Camaro all the way!
the reason the camero won was because in the 01 and 02 they put the ls6 intake manifold and shorter throw shifter. not saying its that much but there is a slight difference. plus the driver.
The LS6 intake came on SOME 35th anniversary addition camaros that was only in 2002, and just like the trans-am the hurst shifter was an option. The hurst shifter hardly qualifies as a short throw. The Camaro won because it has long tube headers. LS1's respond AMAZINGLY to header upgrades. I would say at least a 20 hp gain if they are installed properly.
I used to say "Back in the day" but I decided to go out and buy an '02 Trans AM with just 27k miles and I'm reliving those days, only with a much cooler car!
I said that because that was me in the Z28 and my buddy in the TA. He sold the TA because he got sick of fixing stuff breaking on it. This video was when he first got it. It pretty much became a full blown race car about a year after this video and he was having to drive it daily and it just got old. Sounds like you got a nice car though!
-did ya ever think he had to fix so much on it 'cuz you two beat the shit out of it -racing- about all the time? I mean HELLLOOO??? Why torture such a collectable car? Sell it to someone who wants to take care of it for shit's sake.

if you dyno a trans am with ram air intake to a trans am with out one, they will have about the same #'s (ram air more cuz a lil less restrictive)
But the ram air is for highway speeds (60-ish and up), It's builts up pressure like a mini turbo
