Not really digging the flared wheel arches on the 356 speedster, but I am fairly sure its a replica, and its done to give it more racey look for the movie... thanks for posting this
Good movie! Sadly they never released it on DVD, only place you can get it now is on now is old VHS movie rentals off Ebay or sometimes they show it on TV. Would love to see some more clips! Especially the Mustang and Dennis Hopper's 55 Ford Big Block truck race scene!!
This is one of the most realistic car movies and beside bullit my favorite. This movie was the major influance in my life to go to California to be a Auto machinist and I went to Chaffey College in Ontario. In the first few months I was there I drove a motorcycle to Mullhulland Drive and they had blockades over the road. I went around it on my bike and rode it all the way to the ocean. I got to live the road race in my mind and on the honda XL 370 just like they did.
I remember seeing this race as a little kid. Now, I appreciate how realistic it was... sliding around corners, jumping over bumps. They didn't just speed the film up a bunch..... but what was this movie about?
@advacoRRR The movie is about racing on Mulholland drive. Learning the many curves and changes on the road over the years. Too bad the end race scene has such bad continuity? Not sure if that is the right word. The sun shines, goes away, gets dark then brighter. Only the road is wet, then dry, etc. But, dennis hopper sure fits the part in this movie.
funny, even in the shape that this corvette is in in the movie, it would probably still be worth 20 grand easily today..and cragar super tricks on a porsche??
I think you might be thinking of Two Lane Black top with James Taylor, Denis Wilson and Warren Oates who drives a 1970 Sierra Yellow Pontiac GTO Judge, no Dennis Hopper in that one I am sure you'll find clips of it on the tube :-)
HBO Sleeper, as they were called because they weren't highly rated movies on HBO. I love the racing scenes and it brings some many memories of my youth years.
They are hard to find now. It was never released on DVD, you can still find them occasionally on Ebay in VHS, but you never know what your getting as most of the copies I've seen are ex- movie store rentals. I wish they would rerelease it on DVD. It is a good road race movie!!!
replica of an original grandsport vette....which is more rare than that porsche ever thought about being...probably more on par with the 550 spyder as a unique car. I almost bought a black speedster replica that looked exactly like this one in highschool(flared fenders and all)....still kickin myself 4 that one
yea....i grew up building race bikes and cars with my uncle....my father was like a beach bum too so you should see the bboys faces when I tell them I'm heading to the beach to go surfing during hurricanes. (which is just a dance with the ocean). The world is to interesting to just limit yourself to one aspect of art. Whether its the art of launching a 600 horsepower car on the street, dropping into an overhead wave,or bustin out rockin in a cypha to james brown....
.....I will always be grassroots hiphop to the core(I was raised on it),BUT you will never hear me saying "What...No....I'm a bboy...us hiphop heads don't do that".....I am never to proud or shy to try anything new or diffrent....staying openminded in any situation is what I call living life to the fullest. Narrowmindedness, narcism, and ignorance are my BIGGEST turnoffs...especially in dancers....I thought were supposed to be eclectic.lol. Anyway Lester..thanks and peace. You keep doing ya thing
When this movie came out i went to the theater and watched it and i was completely hooked on fast driving cars, bought a 240Z and had my brother in law drop a 327 under the hood,it was quick but the handling was never perfect.
Later bought a new Corvette in the mid 1980s moved to California and actualy got to drive on Mulholland drive which was full of crotch rockets at the time.
The speedster is a porsche 356 speedeter replica. They didn't use a real one because of hoe rare the car is and the didn't want to risk damaging one. Plus they had to highly modify it for speed. If I remember correctly it was a 3.3 porcshe engine weber carburated with some ungodly camshaft. The vette was a 327 ci obviously built. Dennis Hopper actually drove it drunk in some of the shots you see on here. I think this movie should be remade. Fast and Furious 5? would be cool to see Vin in a vet
man i remember watching this on tv when I was kid in the 80's truly a classic most people my age never even heard of this movie sad world we leave in, post more please

They should only sell cars with at least 500 horse power and 13 miles to the gallon. The next generation can walk.

I remember stumbling onto this movie on tv like 25 years ago. A movie you never forget,a Young Harry Hamlin, hollywood hills,a great man's man movie.

I wish they still made car related movies like this . All the fast in the furious shit is lame the cheesy acting and special effects ruin it.

I found a copy at a car show. Some guy had a huge stand full of car movies on DVD. It was a bootleg of a vhs tape.
No chance of this getting a legit dvd release though, the company that owns the rights went out of business.

Yes I too would love to see more clips because it's almost never shown on TV any more.

I still consider it to be one of THE best car/street racing movies ever made.
