  • ouch!!!

  • i love this video, esp the music(:

  • wel goed maar ook wel een beetje marrteling

  • @turneniscool Dit is geen marteling, dit is hard werk van de Sovjets. In Nederland zijn ze dit soort hard werken niet gewend, dus lijkt het op marteling.

  • Who is the sad gymnast at 1:30? She looks a tiny bit like Shaposhnikova but I can't tell. :/

  • @happyjellyfish

    that is shapo

  • @bbhouk1 Thanks for confirming. She looks younger (more babyfaced maybe?) and I couldn't tell if that was her for sure.

  • @happyjellyfish Yes that was Shapashnikova, sitting on the floor looking Dishevelled? She was one of my all time favorites.

  • Which move was it that caused the most injuries back then on bars? Was it the one where they hit the bar with their stomach? Or those big releases like the one Olga Korbutt did first when she stood on the top bar and then somersaulted to catch?

  • Het turnen van vroeger was veel cooler:P

  • Today is the same with another colors...

  • I Love the old bar work :)

  • 2:34 gave me goosebumps because it just SPOKE the music!!

  • o can do that thing at 0:20

  • omg!! it makes me glad i didnt do gymnastics way back when!!!!

  • 1:19 that gil was paralized terribley she could barly move her eyes it happend performing a very hard skill!

  • shes dead now

  • ouch!! Tiems like these make me glad I'm a rhythmic gymnast xD

  • eigenlijk best wel griezelig omdat zo te zien :D

  • whats up with the weirde bows anyways wats de songs name

  • AUW

  • Comment removed

  • wauw, where did you get this?

  • Who is it at 1.16?

  • its 1:16

  • ぁぁ

  • Do you mean the girl on the bar or the girls whose just stand there?

  • looks like nadia's routine.

  • What the name of the song?

  • The River Sings by Enya

  • my mom used to be able to do what the girl did at 1:12

  • can you make more with more olga korbut in them if so thanks!!

  • He made an Olga Korbut Montage (just search Olga Korbut Montage and its the first one up), it is a really really good montage.

  • who is at 0:54 and 0:55

  • Elena Muhkina.

  • i like :55-1:00 I love olga korbut!

  • yep! even olga korbut my favorite gymnast was in it twice!!! I love doing gymnastics i do a ton of training it's hard. But this was the best montage ever! :D

  • Those who will do this become gymnasts. Those who won't, become cheerleaders. What an AWESOME montage!

  • r u insulting cheerleaders?

  • Just those who learned to type on a cell phone. Sorry, that was rude. No, I'm not insulting cheerleaders, just saying that gymnastics is what you do if you're hardcore and dedicated to being the best in the world's most difficult sport.

  • I agree, amazing footage. Such an awesome montage!

  • this is some amazing footage.

  • they really know how to work out, Are these girl romanians'

  • most of them are actually soviets

  • whats the music it is brill

  • yeah what is the song it is great and who cares whether they made the montage or not if they had'nt of posted it we wouldn't of found it

  • what is the song!?

  • Are you seriously that stupid? The name on the top left is the name of the TV channel the single clip was shown on..

  • Yelena Mukhina... so sad story... poor girl...

  • what is this song called

  • static stretching is soooo bad for your ligaments.

  • Wow..this is a good montage

  • The girl at 0:54 is Yelena Mukhina

  • Who is the girl at :54?

  • this is a cool video

    :)

  • dis is scccarryu

  • wow really great video. i loved it. fantastic job!

  • The girl at 0.53 didn't look very happy to be there. That was a brilliant video. Thanks!

  • nice video

  • but why the title, training montage up to 88 ? I only saw up to 78... or no? haha

  • All of the footage of the tiny Romanian girl's training is from an '88 documentary called "The Romanian Dream." It's really good, features how the Romanians select girls to go into the base clubs, not just Deva. It also has Dobre and Silivas training for Seoul.

  • i just realised, they don't where hand guards on bar... ouch

  • some did

  • I would have loved this type of training as a kid! I suppose some girls don't enjoy it if they are forced though, and that is sad.

  • Same here. If I had been sent to a gym early on in life I'd have been happy as a clam. It's not for everyone.

  • if they are not forced and can quit at any time, then i dont see what is wrong with pushing them hard

  • whats the name of that song? sounds cool!

  • i do the same training like this. Its fun but its also really painful

  • Same? I donät think so, you don't go to school? Your coach hittes you? If you would you won't be here writing you'd be training

  • thats great where do you get your footage?????????

  • all I have to say to that is- hell no

  • who's the girl in 1:13 ??

  • Wow, there's some really good gymnasts in that video.

    I'm a gymnastics coach :]

  • Yes some in the video are really good-and some today are legends in their sport like Yelena Mukhina, and Natalia Shaposhnikova. :)

  • wow i can strech my leg to my head but it would not be so straght when they do it its like a 180 degree angle i do it to a 170 dagree angle!!

  • fantastic vid some serious stretching pain going on there

  • o but y do u use it?

  • Why not? Guys train too, don't they?

  • @kevin123verstappen (i know this is an old comment but still) i think they were meaning why was the bar THIN, like did it make it easier or not. NOT why they used it

  • The women's uneven bars are derived from the men's parallel bars (the Germans, I think, had the idea of lowering one of the bars to take advantage of women's increased flexibility), which is why they're thicker than the men's high bar. They weren't originally intended for the same purpose as the high bar.

  • when/why were the uneven bars moved furher apart,to today's ub format?

  • after the 84 olympics

because girls becan trying to do giants/releases like on men's high bar, so it was figured better of they were move far enough apart to make tis easier. cus man, those giants were ugly!

  • the bar is so thin at 2:10 why do they use such a small bar?

  • It's a men's high bar. And the guy is Dimitri Bilozerchev.

  • Woow. really good. I love it

  • to bad almost ALL these awsome moves are banned

  • hi lovli video ..well done =],

but i was wondering why you would bounce in the stretches isnt that ment to be bad for your muscels ? wb plesae

    xx

  • Like 20 or 30 years ago people did that, but it's not bad for your muscles, they just don't get any longer. Of course when you bounce a little bit to hard your muscles could tear. You shouldn't stretch more than your body allows you, when you do you've got a big chance to get injured.

  • ahh i see, im not sure if you could answer me on this but then if your trying to get good extension and elongating ur muscels and tendons, bouncing isnt the way to strech, but streching into something would be better?

    [this is more for ballet?]

    thanks

    xx

  • O now I see, you're a ballerina! I'm in a dance academy too, sow I know what your goal is; Those hyper extended legs, a deep plie, long lines and gorgeous feet. But I don't really get your question, what exactly do you mean with 'stretching into something'?

  • oh cool, im royal ballet school, senior associate,

im not very good at explaining, but as a ballet dancer should we just hold the streches and push into them slowly, or should we bounce to ?..[any better]

    much love

    xx

  • You should be warmed up first of course, and when you stretch hold it for at least 20 seconds en really relax your muscles and focus on your breathing. That really helps, and it hurts less. You can push into your stretch but do it very gentle.

  • okay =]..thanks

    xx

ps while im at it lol.. erm do u have any audition techniques to pass to me ?!.. cus iv got a few major auditions comming up and i wouldnt mind some advice..

    thanx

  • Haha, you're asking me for advice. I've just recently started dancing, but when I

performed once with my amateur club (after 4 weeks of ballet class), there was a lady in the audience that was the directer of a dance school.

  • When I came back to ballet class, my teacher asked me to call her, so I did. She asked me to audition. But it wasn't really a audition, I just took a class with them, apperently they saw something in me, and I'm a guy, so they took me. Now I have almost 5 months of dancing experience, but I learned a lot.

  • But I've never had a real audition so I can't really help you. I know a few things: Always stand in the front or in the back if there are a lot of dancers, or if there are just a couple of guys; Stand next or close to one (they always look in the front or the back and at guys), make sure you have space to move so you can do you very best. That was my only advice: Make sure they see you, and do your very best.

    Good luck with the auditions!

  • aww thank you, actully thats rather good advice.. i think its different comming from a guy, possibly =]

good luck for 2008 too [happy new year ^^]

    thanx..

    xx

  • Acctually done correctly bouncing can help increase dynamic range of motion. its something called Active Isolated stretching.

  • ahh i see, thanks ill go see if i can research a little more about that =]

    xx

  • I don't think that's good for your body, and it might help, but not as much as ordinary stretching exercises. Just as stretching with vibrations, really weird. I still prefer the normal way.

  • =D.. im trying both ways still fairly the same, im flat down in all 3 splits..im trying to get it so its more then 180..[i can do front splits with one foot upon one step of the stair case flt down] but just wanting to increase it as much as i can.. [reli har to explain this lol] ..

but anyway trying both ways =]

    xx

  • GREAT MONTAGE!! how did you get all of these rare videos. it was amazing. keep up the awesome work. and can you do another training montage?? i love them! thanks

  • I'm working on it!

  • what is the name of the song??amazing video i loved it!

  • The River Sings, by Enya

  • I can't imagine how much the bar hurts the girls' hips. No wonder they wear pads in training!

  • i liked this a lot. it was soo good

  • that was soo cute at the begining i love this video...and the person that said the bars are to close wen your in the levels were you can make up the routines you can put the bars that close...but look how thin the bar is thats soo weird its like a mens bar

but still a very ausome montage its going in my faves

  • what is the music?

  • Enya... but I don't recall the name right now...

  • uauh

  • Cool montage:) I like it!

  • the bars are too close together i know my sis does gymnastics

  • The bars are meant to be that close, they did strange moves back then 0-o

  • Excellent montage Kevin, I love watching the training vids!!

  • That was incredible... wow...

    ~Laur

  • Wow, this was so well done I didn't even realize it was fan made until I looked at the description over again.

These little girls can do all of that, it amazes me... I hope I can be at least 1% as good. lol

  • Oh ! Yelena Muhkina´s and Natalia Shaposhnikova´s faces look so upset and worried ! poor girls ! they pushed them so far ! great video btw !

  • love the music- feel sorry for the girls!

  • Im so glad they decided to move the bars apart. I would be way to scared to do that kind of stuff.

  • bar beaters look soooooooo painful

i've never tried one and i don't plan on it.

  • you can see how hard the bar training was

  • wow how old were the girls in the beginning? wow man.

  • Great Video!! -- very artistic video / editing presentation; excellent choice of music!!; good clips of the gymnasts going through their training. Are you planning on doing more gymnastic video documents? It would be beneficial to others if you could also do another one with a focus on technique, training exercises, analysis, etc. Also, it would be great if you set your talents on documenting Rythmic Gymnastics as well.

  • LOVED THE MUSIC! Really good!

  • I don't want to sound offensive, but thats not that hard compared to what some of these little kids have to do. Especially now, there are 8/9 year olds doing that on a beam.

  • thats easy, wait until you get into level 7 and 8 stuff

  • Definitely. I'm no gymnast (well, barely) but you're right.

  • Um, did you know that Artistic Gymanstics is much harder than Cheer leading and the coaches actually push you a lot harder in Artistic gymnastics than in Cheer leading

  • yea...

  • Great montage! I think the music was an excellent choice. It does have something :)

  • really shows how painful it was to train for uneven bars. its a good idea to make the bars further apart

  • great train

  • unforunately most gyms in the us dont train like that! if we did we would win nonstop because we have more resorses!!! but great video!!

  • Well,u have Bela Karoly who knows this trainings...why u don't dominate the world gymnastic? :)

  • we have more resorses?

who told you russian sportsmen haven't enought resorses?

  • oooooooouuuuuuuch at 1:04..gr8 vid though

  • OMG 99% of that stuff looks like it would break me in half!! great vid tho!

  • weird music but good montage i really like that at 1:03 to 1:10

  • I agree with the music, but it has something don't you think??

  • Whats the music called?

  • The River sings, by Enya

  • This is good but i think it must be quite painfull when they are training for the bars, i do bars but when i do my big tricks like that i never learnt them doing that i just threw myself into it and if it hurt it hurt me but i think that trainings just weird..

  • this is one of favourite montages.... great job.... :>)

  • this is really cool montage... it really reflects what gym is all about its a tough sport one of the toughest i believe u show this.....

  • tres bien!!!!

  • merci

  • This is great!! Nice job

  • great montage

  • Merci pour le montage !! Yen faut plus des comme ça
