  • I like the old one better. The lack of computers to help the drawing process shows how much effort was put into it. Plus the voice has more soul in the lines. Heh heh soul. Mumra.

  • I'm liking the original soooooooooooooo much better!

  • 2011 totally skipped the ancestral idols. What's next no Eye of Thundara?

  • New one's good...but the old one's better

  • 80s has more energy to it...

  • I'm reallyn ot a person who likes old stuff cause its older or so, but the style just looks so simplistic to me, like it's meant for very young kids or so. I know it's a kids show, but it's not meant for infants, so the style is way too kiddish for the people who'll be watching it. Thick outlines, no details. Booh!

  • same shit happened with the " new transformers" everything its bullshit, nothing like 80's cartoons when there was love from the people who was doing anything they were doing

  • @ironman28yblackox This show is not worse by any means though. It's very true to the original.

  • @MrSiesses right, maybe this generations would like it,but us, we've already seen the first one and that's why sometimes we get mad, cuz theyre doing something that we hope that it has to be exactly like the one we saw first, but its coll i mean, everyones think different, adios

  • old one is better than the new one.

  • I grew up with the original, but after watching the 2011 version, I prefer the new one! :)

  • To be honest I grew up on the 80's Thundercats I was right there in the thick of it at the time, Swords of omens, awesome toys, thundertanks the lot. And regularly I hate them repackaging our childhood for the new generation, but in this one case they've been very faithful! i'm not a fan of Japanese animation nowadays *remember the old animation was Japanese too, just a different time and style nowadays people want the Manga/Anime whatever* don't care for it myself but at least it's not butchered!

  • estaba mucho mejor la de 1985

  • His voice in the 2011 version is a joke compared to Earl Hammond. No one today can match a legend like Hammond, but they at least could have gone with someone whose voice is naturally deeper and more menacing. While subtlety is certainly in his repertoire, Mumm-Ra's persona is very rooted in the "Dark Lord" aspect of villainy; as such, he should not be a high-voiced hisser/rasper, but a deep-voiced growler/roarer.

  • I don't know, dude. The original is AWESOME....But the new seems to have a not-much powerful voice in the jingle before the transformation, but the transformation lokks more evil!

  • The original has the better voice, but I like the new design of Mumm-Ra's powered-down form more.

  • I'll alway prefer the original because I grew up with it, but the new is simply badass. So happy this generations has a own Thundercats. Now they can have their own memories of a great cartoon just like me.

  • Both Transforming Spots are EPIC !

  • OMG...The new one have wings???

    It Sucks...

  • The old one is way better by far

  • those 4 statues will be forever burned into my memory as the faces of menace.

  • 1985 was scary and sinister. 2011 reminds me of some random anime bad guy with that voice work. I LOVE the new show, but the Mumm-Ra actor really sucks.

  • 1985 Mumra OWNZ!!! NUFF SAID.

  • It's just not the same if he doesn't do the evil laugh.

  • I'm going for the original 1985 transformation. But then again 80's cartoons is what I grew up on.

  • Once again ... 1985 WINS!!

  • Comment removed

  • were could i see the series

  • 1985 kills and destroys the new one. fuck the new one. new one don't exist to me.

  • @memorysticky Nostalgia is knocking. Your rent is due.

  • @WowbaggerGriffin When nostalgia is better than current crap, I say let the rent be late.

  • @scarabmango Keep telling yourself that. Better not let that pesky rationality catch up with you.

  • @WowbaggerGriffin Are you seriously going to argue that the new Thundercats is better than the old? The original animators and voice actors created something *legendary* within their field, and years ahead of its time. Nowadays, producers of animated programming have computers to assist them at every turn; fuck, they may as well include the computers themselves in the closing credits. You may as well be saying that some autotuned bitch is superior to a classical opera singer.

  • @scarabmango Well said.

  • @scarabmango Hey guy, have you ever considered the fact that they use computers as tools? Like how you use pencil and paper as tools? I think you fail to realize the simple fact that there are still actual flesh and bone people drawing and designing all this stuff, just like the people in those days, but with more advanced equipment. Sorry guy, but we have yet to have a HAL 9000 making our cartoons.

  • @WowbaggerGriffin The computers are still a crutch. Without them, I'd be very surprised if they could keep up with the people who made Disney's Fantasia, for instance. They didn't have the luxury of changing color schemes with the push of a button or synching dialogue with some program.

  • @scarabmango I think there's a huge difference between an ambitious animated film made almost 70 years ago and a cartoon made for weekly broadcast.

  • The new series seems to be far more dedicated than many other remakes of classic cartoons to keep the look and feel of the original.

For example, look at the new Mumm-Ra of this show. The same words, the same appearance.

The only reasl difference I can see between the two shows is the quality of the animation and the voice-actors used for the characters.

In terms of the former, the new show wins. In terms of the latter. it's the original.

So I honestly can't decide which is better.

  • @TheJboy88 Too bad the speed at which they talk is off. Imagine if you could properly dub over the new transformation with the old voice.

  • @TheJboy88 Mumm-Ra's appearance in the 2011 version isn't quite the same. The primary difference for me, which is the biggest distraction design-wise, is that in the 2011 version, Mumm-Ra actually has lips, which the 1985 version never had, which made him then, look more skeletal, and consequently, more undead-like.

  • i like the 2011 one a bit better but its not suppose to be the same as the 1985 version. its suppose to be different and not really the same. same story just told different you can say.

  • I like the new one becuase they chagned snarf :) I never liked him

  • I like both the new and old. They both have their good points so let's just leave it at that.

P.S. I watched the old series first a long, long time ago and still think the new series is just as good.

  • if ur gonna remake something, remake it right, flashing graphics does not make something epic, the old mumm ra was serious, the new one looked real impudent

  • Well I will say this the new Mumm-ra had a more evil sounding voice though in my opinion I liked classic Mumm-ra's transformation better because when the new Mummra-ra transforms he looks like a grey skinned Hulk now some might find that cool but i dont

  • damn mumm-ra you scary

  • 1980's Mumm-Ra will always be the real Mumm-Ra! A show isn't great just because they use 3D-effects in it (like they do in the new show.)

  • the old mumm ra owns the new sucks with new models

  • @vemu01 but the new one looks almost the same T_T

  • @MrSiesses Only I think his muscles are a bit bigger than in the original...

  • @MrSiesses no way! they looked so different! the old one is definitely better...oh wait, I was looking through my nostalgia glasses. sorry bout that.

    they look similar.

  • they cant even transform the 2011 mumra right..... i knew the new cartoon was gonna suck

  • @labombina3 Define "right" as there is no true right way to transform him. Also there is a second transformation which is much much better.

  • @labombina3 The new cartoon is actually pretty good. panthro is voiced by Michael Clark Duncan. That is awesome.

  • @biguy617 Kevin Michael Richardson voices Panthro in the new series.

  • @labombina3

The "right" way of transforming him is however the writers say they want to transform him.

  • okay, the old show i couldn't really get behind as a kid, but this new show seems to have caught my interest. not that the old show was bad, it was fine, i just didn't show as much interest back then

  • The 80s version is pretty lame actually. Maybe it's because I didn't grow up with either version.

  • LOL MIN 0.26

  • lol

  • 2011 fail!

  • I'll have to agree with most people. 1985 is way better. Mumm-Ra sounded way more sinister, and had that special kick to his voice. His laughter was just brilliant. It stood out.

This new one sounds too dull, no kick. Also, the voice actor's work was too generic.

Even if they were to make a live-action movie, I'd choose Earl over this new guy on any given day.

  • @taxi911

    YUP!

All the later cartoon voice actors are just garbage! no change, no emotion (or over doing it), and they sound "human"... when clearly, some of the characters they're representing were NOT human at all!!! WTF people, get a clue!

  • prefiero el clasico 85

  • 1985's Mumm ra looks like King Hippo from the game Punch out on steroids and 2011's looks like the frieken devil him self.

  • 1985! The voice for the new one is weak.

  • 1985 is better

  • both are better 1985 version did it as a ritual and the 2010 did it as a transformation both of which are great concepts

  • The new one is far more awesome. And the voice is much better too

  • oringinal

  • Gotta go with the Orginal. Way better voice acting and sound on it.

  • 1985 THE BIG MOST STRONGEST

  • 85 all the way

  • 1985 rulz!!!!

  • Two words...BAT WINGS!

C'mon what the fuck are they all about?

  • 1985 is better

  • 1980's all the way !

  • One word.........showmanship!

  • check out Mumm-Ra's transformation in 2011 episode 13

I thought it was better than episode 6

  • 1985 is better, the animation show a little more impact and the change of the body.

In 2011 is just about lighting and do not feel like a body change more like 2 different persons on different places.

  • old mumrah is the best..............

  • evil spirits, transform this demented form into erm... into...

  • 1985 ? are you delirious ? 2011 Is The WINNER !!!

  • ancient spirit of evil, ruled by the ancient sword, grant me your power, verto...oh wait XD

  • 1985 is the wins

  • For everyone disputing what he says or isnt saying.... in 1985 he says "..... transform this decayed form [ TO ] Mummra etc..." in 2011 he says ".... transform this decayed form [ INTO ] Mummra the everliving..." personally i dont care either way LOL... I LOVE THUNDERCATS!!!! HO!!!

  • @elrasa3 FINALLY SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS! Kudos bro!

  • 2011 is just screaming, anyone can do it. If you like the 2011 more, it's mainly for graphics.

1985 has more of an echo, you can tell the voice actor has talent with his vocal cords when he says his line.

  • 2011 rocks!

  • Ancient spirits of evil.. transform this decayed form into Mumm-Ra! The ever-lasting- I mean, the ever-living!!!! XD

  • I can understand if u say the old is better. But to say it's far better is just hating

  • wow new just sends shivers down my spine i just cant help but prefer the new

  • Hes says the SAME EXACT LINE get over yourselves and stfu THEY ARE BOTH EQUALY AWESOME

  • @Boslatine Listen again, they dont say the EXACT same thing.

  • @MrSiesses Ancient spirits of evil transform this decayed form into Mumm-Ra the ever living. Yes i know 2011 puts a bit more into it but they end up saying the same line

  • @Boslatine It is NOT the EXACT same line. Listen again and hopefully you will hear the difference.

  • @MrSiesses They do say the same thing...

  • @HeavyArmsO5 No they dont. There is one thing that is different if you listen closely.

  • @MrSiesses

And, what is that difference because I don't hear it at all?

  • @ooOmegaSupremeoo In the first one he says "to Mumm-Ra The Ever Living", in the second one he says "into". Not that big of a diff but still...

  • @Boslatine I agree they are both awesome, but I think most of these guys aren't complaining about the words used so much as the feel of the scene, and they are very different at that.

  • 1985 Mumm-ra looked and sounded like an evil cartoon character, with the proper amount of cheese. 2011 Mumm-ra looks and sounds more...more real, and menacing and starkly evil.

  • The 1985 Mumm-ra sounds like a MAN! Like he has a pair! The 2011 version sounds like a sneaky fucking pedophile. LMAO!!

  • @wonderman227 Uh...really, there was no need to use an expletive. I understand that we live in a day and time where that's suppose to be cool, but it's not. It's crude. Especially when it's put in a public forum when the company is implicitly mixed. Please be the better person and express yourself in a mature, respectful manner. Thanks.

Oh...and '85 Mumm-ra sounds like a little boy pretending to be a man and overdoing it. :-P

  • I'll give props to the new one for making Mumm-Ra more badass, but the transformation had more atmosphere in the old one. I still like both the old and new versions of the show though.

  • My favorite villain EVER!!! Mumm-Ra kicked ass. I actually liked it more than Lion-O himself.

  • Everything is better in 2011 except Mum-Ra's voice. Dude sounds like a pissed off Medic from Team Fortress.

  • 2011 mumra needs to install a dimmer switch. you cant be creepy in flourescent lighting

  • Gotta give it to the old version, it's just creepier and more dramatic

  • 1985: A more brilliant voice, frightening shouts, sees clearly the transformation, not such an exagerate body.

2011: mediocre voice, off-screen transformation, ¿batwings? please. In addition it is uglier, he has a toad face. T.T

2011 has better animation, but in everything else the original one had more conscientiousness.

I am not a nostalgia tard, only I was sincere...

  • Mum-ra gives you wings!

  • 2011 Version by far!...don't get me wrong the 80's version was quite epic, but the new one sounds better, has better visuals, and it just all around the best.

  • 2011 by a long-no, REALLY LONG SHOT.

  • They are both Epic awesome!

  • in the 1985 version he can only transform in his pyramid in the new one he can do it any where

  • @shadic4001 1980s Mumm-Ra rarely transformed outside of his pyramid.

  • 1985 Mumm-ra wins that one.

  • Sure, he was transformed into the "ever living", but he is still fugly as ever!

  • I prefer the 1985 version. I say that from an artistic point of view. The music creates a mood for the scene. The 2011 version is kinda...uneventful. No winds blowing, no cool cape/cloak/robe(whatever you wanna call it) blowing, no sight of the surroundings, no music, rushed dialogue, the list goes on. Floating wraps?? The new animatioin style isn't better in my opinion, but just as good in a different way. if anyone knows of a better transformation video please mail me the link to it.

  • This needs to be redone with the transformation from "Between Brothers." That one pushes my vote to 2011 Mumm-Ra.

  • 1985 voice with 2011 animation

    total win.

  • Both transformations are very cool. I am fond of the 1985 one for nostalgic reasons, but I can appreciate the new one as having better animation. I like them both :D

  • @andoc I prefer the better graphics, and deeper voice of the 2011 version.

  • 2011

  • HUAAAAA HUAAAAA HUAAAAAJAJAJAJA

    WTF MUMM-RA

  • old school all the way!

  • there both equally as good

  • As always the classics win

  • @SoulXEater3000 Only because you're nostalgic. In real life, the new show is far superior.

  • 1985 is far better

  • madd871 - i have not seen voltron (new or old) so unlike a lot of people on this forum (present company excepted) I will not comment on what I have not seen.

  • their gonna go all Falklands war on you

  • I call 15,000 anti nostalgia soldiers to take out the nostalgia and show which show is better

  • They haven't butchered Thundercats. I think everyone is a little to overly sensitvie

  • Sorry, I'm too preoccupied with 19, 19, 1985 Woo hoo.

  • @SixtailShadow I see what you did there, Lol!

  • 1985 's Mummra's transformation is the winner. That creepy laugh sometimes used to scared me sometimes. 2011 not so creepy.

  • Narutoman876 - The fact that you have nothing to say other than personal insults shows you have clearly lost the debate. You cannot keep to the subject matter so you rely on putdowns and retorts to try to undermine the credibility of the person putting forward the opposing case.

You are nothing more than an AIDS slide your mum sat on at the last moment.

  • Then again, it's not like that user you were talking to doesn't have anything better to do...right ?

  • @filipeflower What are you talking about?

  • The one in Between Brothers is much better, but if I had to comp-are these two clips:

The old one has more style & atmosphere. The music, the shots of the statues, the line delivery. Its so theatrical and cool. The new one is just "Purple smoke I"M BIG NOW BITCH!!!"

  • 2011 redeemed in "Between Brothers".

  • OK 2011 HAS WINGS, BUT 1985 WIN .

  • 2011

  • Definitely the old one. The new one may have better animation but that's all it has going for it.

  • The new scene is infinitely superior... leave the nostalgia factor and admit it.

  • @DarthSparhawk the old voice has the creepier quality to it. combine the new animation with the old voice and bingo. new voice is too soft and flat for a monster like mumm-ra.

  • @jpringle1979 I disagree. The old voice is the voice of a brute. The new voice is a voice of an evil sorcerer.

  • I haven't seen the original series in a while, but Mumm-Ra couldn't transform unless he was in his temple right? I can't remember an episode where he did it outside.

  • I feel people making flesh out of this disconcerted standard.

  • (ctd.) New Mumm-Ra is no substitute for the original IMO, but, then, he probably isn't supposed to be. All of the characters have been re-imagined, after all. I can like both, so I'll wait and see if the new versions eventually grow on me.

BTW, some comments are suggesting that the animators for TC 2011 used Flash. However, the character animation is almost certainly hand-drawn (on dead trees and all), just digitally inked.

  • Just watched the 2011 premiere last night, and Mumm-Ra was rather underwhelming. Even if the original series eventually turns him into an impotent villain, at his core he is genuinely scary and menacing. The voice, the music, and the animation all work together for his still-great transformation sequence. (And the example in the video isn't even the best instance.)

  • well the last episode showed a different transformation it was a little bit more epic

  • The old transformation is more dramatic and more scary than the new one. And Lion-O needs to start juicing to bulk up to the original Lion=O. Cheetara is way hotter though

  • As I am not a writer i cannot say on the strength of the scripts so I will leave that one for scriptwriters to argue over. My area of expertise is audio though and I will dsay it again, the new one (in that aspect at least) is NOWHERE near as good.

  • Crazy shit

  • both are awesome.

  • Mumm Ra got a brand new transformation in the last episode it was HOLY CRAP!!!! :O

  • As much as I love the 2011 version, the original Mumm-Ra transformation is far superior.

  • @atomofish

yes the old transformation was more dramatic with the voice actor

  • Both of them are good!

  • wow they mustve modeled weak mummra from my grandmother!

  • I prefere the 80's version, he looks more maniac, insane. In the new version he looks sissy. Too many blah, blah, blah, good special effects but sissy.

  • "prime513 - the hua huahua laugh was to show a maniacal streak in him..which the new one does not have. The voice on the new one gets worse the more i hear it in comparison to the old one.

  • i love both versions.

  • "transform this decayed form in to mumm-ra the ever living HUA HUA HUAHAHAHAHAHAHA"

what the hell is "HUA HUA"? cant believe i used let that pass

  • Ok the illustrators must be fans of Twilight. Why does the new Mumm-Ra look like a Vampire?

  • It seemed to be and indeed it is! To me the orchestral score just did not kick with me, especially with the voice which has too much reverb. You also heard some laser noises in the 2011 scene. Since when has mumm-ra used lasers to transform? The old skool is better executed and as I learnt at university it is not what you have but how you use it (in reference to music equpipment) that makes the difference.

  • butchered more like - and i disagree. The new thundercats is symptomatic of a lot of modern reincarnations in that flash is required over substance. The voice and the music are two key areas. Yes the images are sharper and more fluid, but the sound is nowhere near as trepidacious, it feels synthetic instead of genuinely haunting.

  • @jakamneziak like the crazy 80s synth and keyboards? Yeah, much more haunting that orchestral scores

  • Hipster Mumm-ra fans <.< New one is boss.

  • New one blows. Love the show but Earl was the best.
