Wow! What a treat! Miss Peggy Lee is the epitome of beautiful singing, class, feeling, and elegance in the phrasing. Thank you for sharing this clip, a true gem. And Merry Christmas!
I saw the show she did in the 70's for PBS w/ Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops orchestra. How I wish I had a video of that performance--it was long before we had a VCR. I wonder if it's available anywhere. It was a great concert.
So lovely to see her shot in this very cinematic way... like a big musical.. beautiful. Its almost too much to watch... as if we are seeing that little too much of her inner self... what an artist.
Peggy Lee truly had one of the great voices of the century. Quite a career and sadly missed these days of a vacuum in good singers, and good songs to sing with lyrics that mean something. Nothing is politically correct anymore, as this song would not be nowadays. Keep on singing up there Peggy!
I cant help but look into her eyes and see a child there. she must have been thinking about her own sad childhood..to listen to her voice crack. I know listening to her that I had flash backs of my own childhood....WOW talk about the feeling she put into her songs..WOW rest in peace lovely lady...
Peggy Lee is still the best at style and class. I found this clip on an old Betamax tape I had along with the Julie Andrews - Peggy Lee duet from that show. It's on DVD now.I'm wishing I had recorded ALL of Julie Andrews' TV shows. Sigh. Would be nice if they were made available to the public via DVD
I bought the Julie Andrews Show DVD box set from an internet site supposedly a Julie Andrews fan club, and it was a scam, they never arrived and they never reply, so be wary. They had a photo of the boxset and remastered stills, so I do think it was once available in the U.K. Both Julie and Peggy are brilliant singers, Peggy can be a bit more haunting & deep when she wants to be though. Hey check out my channel LushBudget.
It was written by David Gates, the lead member of the 1970's group Bread. Peggy praised his lyrics for their poetry. Once she did a show with the Boston Pops on a TV show for PBS, in which she included not only great standards by Gerswhin & others, but also this song, In that show, she prefaced her vocal by saying that she loved Gates's poetic songwriting.
So poignant. Seems that she lost someone, and deeply misses him or her over Christmas. Whenever she is flying, in heaven, she feels the presence of the loved one nearby.
Gareth a real favourite of mine - Clouds is a beautiful song and of course sung by PL it is just perfection - very good quality as well and most seasonal with have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas!
