@dagocleo The idea is floating around I just picked it up. I have used it to stir/proof some wine yeast. Then promptly dumped the stir bar in the must. I'm getting anxious to try it for a beer starter.
Mike half of the time I have no clue about what your making but you seem like you can build everything so maybe you can build me a way out of the UK :) haha Thumbs Up brother
@patches4patches It's for yeast starters. Most people making bigger beers use them to so they can use a smaller starter with more yeast. I stick with lower alcohol beers. I'm hoping it allows me to get more yeast faster so I can brew on spur of the moment.
So the stirer goes inside the glass jar and it's a magnet... and then the machine whirly gig is magnetized also and that is what makes the white stir thingy go round and round? Mike you're amazing... but you're like my husband... he never wants to throw anything out either. When something tears up... he cannibalizes it for parts.... All over my house! haha. Hugs!
@imperceptibleme That's my house. About the time I throw something out I find a use for it. I really don't need a stir plate for the strength of beer I make but once I got the flask (you can boil directly on the stove with one) it looked like it needed one to be more scientific.
Good job. It's always good to be handy... If you know how you can have a lot of fun with a modified CB radio and Drive threw's... Just don't get caught...
Oh that was fun to watch. Brought back a lot of memories from my childhood. My oldest brother made one for his chem. experiments. He has one now for all the beer brewing he does. I love DIY stuff so much better then buying it.
@ToriSterling I think DIY is one of the best parts of the old time skills like brewing and cider pressing. If they could make the equipment back then we should be able to make it now.
@greggfla I'm messing with the height now. Too high seems to throw it at high speed, too low throws it at low speed. I don't think the beer/yeast should make much of a difference. My worry is the potentiometer doesn't survive being used as a voltage regulator long enough to give it a complete try.
That is so awesome! Let us know how the beer turns out.

@genmama1955 It always turns out good, or at least drinkable.

That's got to be one of the coolest things I've seen.

@gnomencandle So far it works. I ran it for 24 hours making a starter and it didn't put out much heat.

learn to make home brew.

@bugsme10 I'm thinking about taking a step backwards and do a beginner's brew. I just like the beer I make now too much to go back :)

That is soooo cool! I would just sit and watch the tornado it makes inside after I got done gettin' drunk.
liljack8421 4 months ago
@liljack8421 The idea is to automate the process of making a starter so you don't have to watch it and can get drunk.

I hadn't a clue what it was gonna be...but it's clever!! I like the little waterspout it creates!!
I wonder if you have all the right parts to make me something battery operated....send it in a plain wrapper please lol ;)
