  • Such a shame he ended his life so tragically. Del was so loved, even to this day.

  • Del never aged a day.

  • His vocal was superb to a tragic end.xxx

  • My reaction to this performance is that he was hammered. Suicide: Permanent solution to a temporary problem. Del had such a (potentially) huge future. Del and Roy Orbison, any two better voices?

  • @mike99051 For people who suffer from depression it is a life long problem not temporary. I feel most people do not understand depression which comes in many forms with many causes. For many it is indeed caused by

a chemical imbalance in the brain that is often very hard to correct even with medication.

  • @andrewr62 So very true - many people who don't have to struggle with depression think you can just 'snap out of it', which adds yet another element of shame for the depressed person to deal with.

  • Casual!

    (Street Corner Memories Radio Show)

  • The Best of them all.My all time R&R hero.Met him twice here in the uk.No one else comes even close. Thanks for the great memories Del. Ken. Lancashire.

  • He wasn't smiling or animated in this video clip. It was his last concert and unfortunate that he could not find what he needed to continue his remarkable life. He was the 'real deal' in a lot of ways.

  • it wasnt depression that killed him it was is wife gettin him cuts is kids out off life and gettin her lawyer phoning everyday to get him change his will for her and her daughter she pushed im to it

  • Thanks for posting,RIP Del.Grew up listening to your beautiful voice and watching your beautiful face.Your music will always live on!!!

  • the background sound is not good at all why didnt you edit it

  • Wow he died 5 days after this concert, it really looks like his mind is somewhere else when he is playing the song, he is just going through the motions.

  • God bless him. Saw him in '61 and '72.

  • depression is a bitch

it is really to bad that he couldnt internalize the love his fans had for him

  • He shouldn't have done this concert, he looks very ill, eyes are puffy and swollen and you can tell he doesn't feel well. It breaks my heart to watch it.

  • @lukeloveslauraalways He was sick of the flu or something. Can't remember exactly what.

  • Looking good for his age, but could have sounded better....and the all-important keyboard riff has vanished! Five stars for uploading this important and valuable record of Del's last performance. I feel quite sorry for him though.

  • he was just 50 here

  • @sukes58 He had just turned 55. He had to lie about his age in the early days. Born Dec 30 1934, not 1939

  • @DelRocksMySpace he was 50 when he died he didnt lie about age where u get that from

  • @sukes58 Maybe do some online research.

  • @DelRocksMySpace it wasnt depression that killed him it was is wife gettin him cuts is kids out off life and gettin her lawyer phoning everyday to get him change his will for her and her daughter she pushed im to it

  • 20 years to the day... he is still loved and missed

  • I wish someone, somewhere had been able to convince Del Shannon of his enduring worth & value to everyone who loves music. He could have progressed and his career might have continued for decades longer. RIP, Del. Thanks for your original sound!

  • His voice never left him.Tragic to watch amd what a waste.

  • Looks like Alice Cooper.

  • Also one of the greatest record producers of all time. A true original.

  • Please remember, Del was on Prozac. He wasn't himself.

  • He also had the flu that night. I felt so badly when I saw this.

  • Del didn't sing the verse! "Once I knew a pretty girl, her name it doesn't matter, she went away w/another guy, & now he won't even look at her." What a GREAT put-down song! : HER name "doesn't matter", but the GUY'S name is in the TITLE of the song!, & is repeated over & over in the chorus. Take THAT, "whatever-your-name-was"! Del's one of the Bealtes major infuences, both for his more complicated chord progressions & the fact that he wrote & performed mostly his own material, a rarity.

  • MISS YOU SO MUCH,

    R I P XXXXXXXX

  • I saw Del live in Huntington Beach, CA in the early 80's. Nothing like this. It was a high-energy concert and he was in top vocal form. So sad. A real original that is missed. RIP

  • rest in peace

  • God bless you Del. Rest in peace.

  • a great and very underestimated artist, rip del.

  • If people like Chuck Berry, Little Richard etc invented R&R than Del Shannon kicked it up a notch or two, were still listening Del ...RIP.

  • Talk about a "Broken Heart".... I agree, this is very difficult to watch but thanks for sharing. He was a true rocker - you got that right, dIpine71

  • Hats off to Del

    God Bless

  • I saw Del perform live in australia , in a show ground tent in melbourne- the state government paid his costs etc. to appear at our annual Moomba Festival - he had a large back-up band- one show, the joint was only half full- great show- what a shame. he was fantastic, true professional, then suicided some months later. rest in peace Del , you gave such great moments to us all

  • You can see how depressed he looks.

  • del shannon was a true rocker!!

  • yeah.... that was really depressing to watch. you can watch all the other del shannon videos on this site of this song.....and he has so much more energy. but in this one...it doesnt even seem he wants to be out there

  • yeah i found it very hard to watch aswell ...just two weeks before he killed himself..so so sad..R.I.P Del

  • two weeks??? geez. you could definitely tell that somethin was up :(

  • it was actually 5 days before....sorry i got it mixed up...but even still...wat a loss

  • You can see and hear his heart was gone. Probably the anti-depressives clashing with his thoughts and feelings. I see a man who's given up. Problem was, Del always had that haunted vibe about him so it is not much of a surprise nobody thought anything was up.

Was a sad day when he pulled the trigger. A genuine legend.

  • historic

  • I like Del Shannon alot, But, He's not up to par in this concert, It could've been his depression, Maybe.

  • Del Shannon was a success in Chile with Runaway (july 1961).

Youtube search for ELVIS ROCK DISCO 45 and VIVA EL ROCK AND ROLL and you will see an honoring to this one and others singers of that era.

  • Which song is played in the beginning?

  • Original instrumental entitled "Wolverine Tooth Extraction".

  • the man was class..r.i.p.del

  • i read that the emt guy who had to transport his body turned on the radio in the ambulance or whatever, and they were playing his music! he said he had the chills for a long time, because del was dead in the van while his music was playing. creepy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It was the coroner not the EMT guy.

  • THANX !!

    tears ,in my eyes ...

May You:Rest In Peace ,Del !!!

  • If im correct at this time or should i say as we see him now he is on PROZAC in this footage.

  • By Golly, I think you are right...

  • Maybe the memory of Buddy Hollys sad death, added to his misery. Buddy was killed on the night of his final concert, 3rd feb 1959 and was actually flying on to Fargo North Dakota when it happened!!!

  • truly haunting.

  • ♥♥♥ Luv U Del forever...♥♥♥

     5***** & a fav

    ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • The last of The Greatest of all,so sad to see, so tragic to know it´s the final performance he did. I wish that his soul are at peace now, and his doughter is with him for good company in haven, she died from cancer june 06. 2004 only 42 years of age,she was born oct 07.1961 when Del had his big hit "Runaway" starting his career, may you both rest in peace, love always, caro

  • I just wanted to ask you which of Del Shannon's daughter's died. I met Kim in 1996 at the unveiling of his memorial in Coopersville MI.-Thanks-Dennis Vespi

  • hi bigden89,

it was his youngest daughter Jody who died in 2004 in cancer, so sad, she had his looks and was singing some too,she was born in 1961 and was named after his song "Jody" b-side on his debut singel hit "Runaway", she only got to be 43 years, too bad,

    caro

  • Thanks you for the in info.

  • Filmed in my home town. Yeah, Del had big depression problems, just read the lyrics from his lp with Petty.

  • The greatest but this is so sad, just five days later he was gone.He didn't look too happy.
