I remember my Master System came with this game installed. To think, I would have been so young back then... I do remember completing the game, but I don't think I had all of the emeralds, although I did have quite a number. The final boss was INSANELY difficult!! I haven't played this in many years so I don't know whether it's just because I was a kid or whether he really was that hard. I recall that electrocuting forcefield as being almost impossible to avoid. Not to mention the stage itself..

@mcfat89 That would be Sonic Spinball. It's pretty much a challenging pinball game with Sonic in it. There's several let's plays on it and if you want to play it, grab Sonic Mega Collection for GC or PS2. I'm not very good at it, but it's fun! Don't play the game gear version, though. I had that one and it sucked. The controls were bad and the physics were off.

I think it's worth pointing out how much more difficult it is to control Sonic in the 8 bit versions- he immediately starts racing when you hit the d-pad. Thus, it makes it much more difficult to keep him from flying into things, etc. This is apparent in these boss battles; fine work, ACESpark.

@ACESpark Well an the Labyrinth boss to hit him in the middle and make it back I think you need to already have momentum while moving I mean hit him once while still moving, don't bother with hitting him multiple times because that loses you left or right momentum, it's been years, so can't remember properly, why don't you see if that works

SPeaking of which when I finished Sonic Labyrinth I laughed (on the inside) when I fought the final boss and saw how easy it LOOKED but not the ending I was just like what? THere were only 5 chaos emeralds and the original has 6 and Sonic the Fighters had 8 at least give the character's partner (you kno Sonic and Tails Fang and Bark of Bean Knuckles and Espio) and give Amy the white one. It makes so muck sence not to give Tails one when they're searching fotr them.

sonic 1 on game gear and master system was a piece of shit.the genisis version has technically modified bosses,different zones,and moving background (All 4 8-bit sonic games had moving background involving sonic cd) And it dosent have A Damned Map That Pisses you off And The Music is like 90x times better.star light zone and green hill zone are my fav sonic 1 songs.

I vaguely remember the Jungle level when I used to play this way back in the day. Don't actually remember any of the other levels? I no longer have the Master System or Mega Drive so I just keep ROM'ed versions to relive the memories :-D

Well, fair enough, but:

All games are like that. You play any game enough times you will find it easy, Sonic 2 8bit is still a hard game the first few times you play it, the level design is completely absurd in places, (full of "if you haven't played this stage before, you're dead now segements.) especially the Game Gear version, where you can't even see what's ahead of you.

Never actually beat that Jungle boss. I remember the last time I tried was just before I went to primary school one morning (I'd left the Master System on all night to try and beat him the next day, "fresh for the challenge", if you will). I was about five or six.

Failed.

Took the controller out and threw it across the room.

Then school finished for the Christmas holidays and I got a Mega Drive that Christmas, so I never played Sonic on the Master System again.
