@thepiper2112 i think respect should be payed to the blues artists of america who essentially created rock music, and without whom none of those bands you mentioned, english or american, would exist. and don't get me wrong i love the bands of england but i dont think its as lopsided as you describe.

johnny cash, velvet underground, credence, grateful dead, muddy waters, bb king, stevie ray vaughan and modest mouse come to mind at the moment. though sadly true about these days.

Its no contest..England has always had the best bands..The Beatles, Stones, Led Zep, The Who, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath..and on and on...and this is just the classic bands..now there's Stone Roses (Ian Brown), Oasis, Radiohead, The Verve, Coldplay, Muse, Doves, Blur..it goes on and on...

American has Dylan, Hendrix, The Doors, Elvis and a load of decent artists, but no where near the greatness of the bands mentioned above..and good American rock bands now are few and far between.

And I agree british bands have always had the edge but you left out some incredible American artists like Neil Young, Crosby stills and Nash, Santana, The Band, America, Allman Bros, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, et cetera. A little more than"a load of decent artists" In the 60's America would give ya a run for your money. Certainly not today.
