  • THE current bill is not the answer ,,,does not address proper Tort Reform, "undocumented" access for expensive non-life threatening HC , & does not provide MOST IMPORTANTLY an OPT OUT Provision for those that believe it is still too bloated with waste & inefficiencies resulting in inflated premiums not in keeping with services provided.

....A mandate stuffed inside a trojan horse bill for HC is a skunk in the road...too stupid to debate...

REPEAL the BIll nobody ever wanted

  • Kill the bill...

  • Lets I need an immediate operation to save my life. Can I then spend money I don't have until I get my next voucher without ending up in one of the long cues that are one of the problems with the current public healthcare systems?

  • Yes, because that's immediate care. Disinformation commentator: what long cues? which current public health care systems are you talking about? The ones for almost 50 millions people in USA who don't have or can't afford health insurance/medical care? Your comment is MISLEADING. Some people in this country CAN'T EVEN GET IN LINE!!!

  • In Canada you cannot pay for your health care. Many people therefore have to travel to the US to get the care they need before it's too late. I agree that almost 50 million Americans without insurance is a much bigger problem.

Jon Stossel talks about many of the problems with socialized care. A video called Dead Meat also shows the problems.

  • According to David Walker, the US Comptoller General who told Gravel about the 50-60 trillion fiscal gap (countries in Europe are worse of), the cause of the deficit will be the cost of public healthcare. I know Gravel wants to change the tax system, but how is it going to increase the revenue of the state enough to pay for universal healthcare when the amount of money paid by the citizens with a sales tax is supposed to stay the same as today?

Watch Walker's one hour speech on video.google.

  • BS the cost of deficit is not health care. It's wasted money on military expenditures since WWII. It used to be about $300 BILLION a year and now it's half a trillion and that's not including Afghanistan and Iraq. Hello!? Stop lying! 1/2 tax dollars go to unnecessary military expenditures. What are you afraid of?

  • My source is David Walker. Have you seen his 1hr lecture? Of course the military is part of the problem. Today 20% is military, 19% is M.care and M.aid. The problem with with Medicare is that the cost will increase massively when the baby boomers begin using the program. All of the spending and taxation programs of the government need better control and more transparency than they have today to fix the problem.

How will Gravel pay for universal health care with a tax that is revenue neutral?

  • A Federal Reserve-like system for healthcare? That sounds scary. I want a free market healthcare system!

  • MASS DONATION DAY for MIKE GRAVEL is 12/5!!!

Reasons you should consider donating, what he will do for the U.S. as President; Bring peace in the middle east, Bring the troops home in 120 days, Education paid for pre-school to scholarship, Empower the citizens as lawmakers, Eliminate the IRS & Income Tax, End the war on drugs, Universal healthcare for all, Bring equality for gay rights, etc.

    Hear his plans at: youtubeDOTcom/gravel2008 & gravel2008DOTus

  • Do you think European businesses don't pay for health care? Hello their government takes and spends 50% of all money in their economy.

  • HELLO over 50% of our tax dollars go to our military and Pentagon.

Unless you like all the spending on war for oil, unnecessary nukes, and imperialism. It certainly takes precedent over healthcare, education, infrastructure, and clean energy.

  • We could stop the war and let the people keep the money saved. Then the would be better able to afford health care.

  • True.

But the money is coming from the taxpayers in the first place, so just bear that in mind with the phrasing.

We can afford what we the taxpayers pay for. So yeah, no war and healthcare does mean more money saved.

  • Don't forget Mike's alternate debate tonight (since CNN decided to exclude him, just like NBC). ustream(dot)tv/Gravel2008. TONIGHT @ 4:30 PM PST.

  • Ron Paul is %100 against this.

  • Which is why they will make such a great government.

  • I don't like that he compares it to the federal reserve. The federal reserve is bad bad mojo, they don't let anyone know whats going on and they print money. Printing money is bad bad. We need the gold standard back, listen to ron paul on the monetary/health care please!

  • I think a peg to inflation is better than a peg to gold. A peg to inflation allows you to grow your money supply as population and demand grow.

  • Well the idea is not to go back to gold per se but to base our currency on hard assets. There is no arguement for any other system because it basically has no REAL reason for having any value. And allows for overstepping our means. The exact same reason for the gold standard to have ever existed, just revamped for 2007/8. When has inflation proven to be good for any countries currency? Do we want to be like the peso? hell no

  • By pegged to inflation what I mean is you pick a very low number as a target for your currency to inflate at. The reason you choose small inflation over a perfectly flat currency is because you can't manage it perfectly and deflation is usually a big problem. Germany did this after their hyperinflation and it worked very well. It takes away the federal reserves ability to manipulate the currency which is what Ron Paul's goal is.

  • We still hold gold in reserves. We just don't peg our currency to it.

  • You are correct that the Fed is baaaad. But we DO NOT need a gold standard. We have no gold reserves and the gold that does exist is monopolized by a select few. More than 60% of the gold is owned by the IMF and World bank. Gold standard would lead to monopoly control of our money. We once printed our own money during colonial times (colonial script) and it was totally fiat and controlled by demand. We had a great period of prosperity until the Bank of England forced England to tax us to death.

  • Now don't misunderstand. The Fed must be abolished and the power to make money placed back in the hands of the government on a full reserve banking practice (the Fed and all banks currently practice fractional reserve banking where banks are allowed to lend up to ten times their actual reserves at interest). The government should make this money based on the statistical demands of population growth. But the power to make money shouldn't be had by a for-profit corporation (off topic... but meh).

  • Gravel for President in '08 !

"In a time of universal deciet, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." - George Orwell.

  • hes the only candidate, i feel, that doesnt use political jargon.. you can actually follow and understand his plans and what hes saying

  • One point worth noting: Young adults (roughly 15-34) are not only the most poorly insured Americans but are suffering increasingly from catastrophic and chronic medical conditions. Polychemical saturation, massive stress, limited access are afflicting the young & old much more democratically then in the past.

  • Check out Mike Gravel, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

    * Most accomplished Democratic Statesmen on 2008 presidential ballot

    * Single-handedly ended Vietnam draft

    * Started National Initiative to give American Citizens legislative rights

    * Will ACTUALLY end war in Iraq

    * Only candidate not funded by special interests

    * Universal Healthcare. Period.

    * End war on drugs

    Gravel2008 . us

  • you guys need to learn why the government shouldnt provide universale healthcare. Just research what the government did to HC under the Nixon administration it baffles me it is even considered

  • It was Nixon's admin that began the privatization of healthcare...it is now a business, and less payout by insurance means higher profit business. Business determines your healthcare...less for you means more for them!

  • Here's a question: What's with the keeping up with your history about? Is it to better help treat you at the doctor or will it be used against you like having something preexisting? Also, what's all this talk about cost?? Everyone needs and deserves FREE health care. It's our human right!

  • With Gravel's plan, the individual history is there to give you what YOU need. :)

  • He has my vote. I'm also sending him money.

  • Gravel NOT invited to the LGBT debate hosted by LOGO cable network.

    Complain/protest/beg here:

LOGO: 212 654 3005. This is an answering machine. Be brief and clear.

The sponsoring organization is called "Human Rights Campaign": 202 628-4160 Toll-Free: 800/777-4723

  • Is he still not invited or has that changed?

  • Gravel has been invited :D

  • I like how he punctuates his arguments with "my god!", teehee.

  • MIKE GRAVEL!!!!!!!!!!!!! dont let the clones shut him down

also ron paul........there are a few really good political candidates for '08, just that they dont have enough money to be heard above the clinton blabber.....please check on mike gravel and give him your support....he makes so much sense...

sorry to use this as advertising space, but really mike gravel rocks, he deserves to atleast be vp candidate behind obama......he needs as much buzz as he can get..............hope u care

  • More government is not the answer, i also don't want my medical history on file somewhere. Where is our right to privacy.

But he is correct on the business side. I use to be able to afford health insurance for me and my employees, now I can't even afford it for myself.

  • Okay- I am so voting for him.

  • yeah sounds good and when he was about to tell us how to pay for this wonderful ideas he changes topics. I want a president to finally be average and not rich. His ideas need to be heard but he is a little to unpolished to represent the U.S.. Truly i am little scared for him being able to touch the button. Being broke and resentful causes people to do crazy things.

  • JESUS CHRIST !!!!!!!

  • I become more of a Gravel fan everyday

  • EVERYONE DONATE TO HIM. I'm going to donate and I encourage others to do so as well. The fact is this man is the only one who is speaking any bit of truth and yet he's 90k+ in debt and we need to make sure he sticks around and get's his message heard!

  • GRAVEL2008[DOT]US

  • Gravel,,,your amazing,,,This country needs more like you.

  • this guy is kind of a dick and he pisses me off to listen to. i think he'd be an awesome president though, hes smart as fuck and clearly not afraid to do the right thing.

  • Why dont let all medical care be free like in norway? no vouchers, just go to the hospital when you need to, and get fixed for free.

  • Because the quality of Healthcare in Norway, is completel shit. Its not HORRIBLE, but its damn near close compared to the quality that can be bought in America. If you want good healthcare, it is not going to be simply given to you. The best we can hope for is decent healthcare, with cheap upgradeable options for our plans.

  • What do you know about norwegian health care and its quality? Sure, mistakes happens, but that's in mans nature, and money can't change it, because only rich people can afford it.

  • Because with vouchers you can pay for a customized health care program, as opposed to a one shoe fits all solution. Vouchers are infinitely better than just a lump program, that is the same for everyone. Also, I think vouchers should be allowed to be cashed, so that the real healthy folk, that can get minimal coverage don't have to foot so much of all the unhealthy people's bill.

  • Wow, that's a damn good idea. Vouchers worth real money for health. A similar idea should be used to education too, vouchers for children to go to the school they want to go, too bad the second idea is supported mostly by neo cons.

  • Shadyhunter: So who pays? Nothing is free.

  • Well, I know everyone pays, what I meant to say was that such things as vouchers would simplify the universal healthcare idea, allowing people to go to any doctor. Seriously though, I'd much rather have laissez faire system where government stays the fuck out most healthcare, such as Ron Paul's. He realizes that a gap in wealth created by inflation and lobbying by health companies have made healthcare for poorer families unaffordable.

  • you just said the Health companies have made healthcare for poorer families unaffordable. How is that the governments fault? The only fault I find is that they sided to benefit those companies.

  • we do. But who said its suppose to be free. Its just an affordable form of universal healthcare.

  • Politics ought to be the part-time profession of every citizen who would protect the rights and privileges of free people and who would preserve what is good and fruitful in our national heritage.

  • Politics ought to be the part-time profession of every citizen who would protect the rights and privileges of free people and who would preserve what is good and fruitful in our national heritage.

  • YES! YES! YES! I love this man. He is just what we need. Oh how I wish we had a president like him. I see why the evil, elite are refusing to let him be heard. They fear him. He's not corrupt and evil.

  • gravel2008 DOT us

  • Nice....

  • What was that website that he mentioned at the end?
