Squirm is awesome! Killer earthworms may sound stupid. But it's a really cool intro in the "Nature Runs Amok" subgenre (aka "The JAWS clones") that followed the release of JAWS in 1975. Not only that, but there's a really cool MGM DVD release of this one out there that's worth the buy. HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended.
It makes me really sad that I've seen hundreds of really messed up horror films and THIS is one of the five I can think of that actually freak me out. Ugh I hate worms. Lol.
I'm still amazed that nobody has picked up on the fact that the opening number "I can see the dark..." is the song in "Pan's Labyrinth." Del Toro definitely grew up on movies like these.
@Johnlindsey289 The Worm Eaters is a lot more disgusting, believe me. This is sort of similar to Slugs and i saw it on video as a kid. Never saw it on MST3K.
I have no desire to see that one, sounds gross. I think Adam Green of Hatchet 1 & 2 or Frozen fame should do a new Squirm movie and have Tom Atkins in it. I'll send you the episode of MST3K that has Squirm
@Johnlindsey289 yeah i did when i was 19 on scifi channel laughing at the movie it was so bad that the plot didn't make a lot of sense it makes you wonder what were they thinking!!!!!!!!
The lightning made eathworms turn agressive toards humans.Perfectly logical premise NOT The '70s were full of these garbage B movies. From killer bees,to spiders,to frogs and snakes and rats.
I DO remember, "back in the day," here in Seattle Washington, on channel 11, Squirm was a part of "Mother Nature's Revenge Week." If my memory serves me, correctly, the other shows were: Jaws, Kingdom of The Spiders, Bug, and Piranha. In my opinion, unless it was Halloween, or getting CLOSE to Halloween, where T.V. channels featured scary films, weekly T.V. has NEVER BEEN BETTER SINCE!
Am I the only one who realizes that the opening song to this movie is the theme to "Pan's Labyrinth?".. I remember this movie from the 70's...when Lebanon, PA had downtown theaters, where you could walk past the ticket booth and go inside to see stills from the movie...like "Deranged."...good times.
ok im a fan of monster movies and b movies too and i just gotta say this is a incredibly dumb idea for amovie...i mean come on..earth worms? o.o
earth worms can move in the earth yes but above earth theyre pretty helpless. i mean hell a tiny puddle can and does kill worms...now if they mutated them or something ok but just normal worms with a craving for flesh? lol no...
I-- I remember this! I saw this with my friend as a kid! The shower head, ending part with the lady climbing out of the chest, worm face biting, tree sparking, and lake scene were burned into my memory forever! I just could never remember the title of the movie.
Don't miss this movie if you were ever "knee high to a duck." You will squirm like a worm as you wiggle and grimace in fear, while watching this goopy, crawly, masterpiece.
AH! I remember this movie! Scared the crap out of me as a kid, I was firmly convinced that those worms where going to crawl up under my skin while I slept.
How icky, hee hee! Neat trailer, for a not bad B film, which has some decent gross out moments and some early Rick Baker makeup work. And of course the bit everyone remembers, the worms crawling out of the shower head. Messed me up as a kid, never trusted those things again! Thanks for posting!
i can't see how earth worms can be threatening in any way........
