I always thought that Heidegger's big sounding words about Dasein was really about the simple yeomen life of the Black Forest. When I want to know what Dasein is I look at the Shire of the Hobbit or the Olympic Forest of Twilight
This sounds like a very Platonic hermeneutic of Heidegger's notion of understanding i.e "learning". Intro to Metaphysics is much more enlightening on this notion that Being and Time.
by the way thanks for responding to my email Professor Anton.
Understanding is prior to interpretation... that is somewhat hard to, well, understand. And yet, if the being is functioning within the hermeneutical circle, thus seeing oneself via Heidegger's hermeneutical-as structure, then they are recognizing the strong, compounded particularity of their history-in-the-making, a relic of sorts which is founded upon generations and generations of meaning and practicality. Almost like history as drama, where the script is written yet always inviting..
@Inthebeginnigwaslove Understanding is subject to preceptual operativeness which was a phrase that I believe Hans Gadamer coined, the directive of thought ask's the question why, why is the precept to any and all forms of intent of knowledge,
Speechless. I am forever grateful for you making these videos. I am reading this in the book. You have the most generous, sharing-heart man. How does the video not have a million hits? Bump this up. Hermeneutical 'AS' and Apophantical 'AS'....so good. Understanding is so key, it's amazing how Heidegger sees this. Relevance and totality in relationship structures, just amazing.

Your topic goes to the heart of the matter.. Being is understanding. Hence the world is more outside-itself than extant beings. This understanding is necessary to pull oneself from subjectivism/objectivism and sway unto the- in-between. I'm working on Mindfulness.
Hey nice video enjoying your channel :) . A little bit all over the show but that is understandable when talking about Heidegger. If you guys want a clear introduction to Heidegger's work especially Being and time watch these series of videos all the way through. Very clear and easy to keep up with /watch?v=aaGk6S1qhz0
If a man totally loses his memory, does he still exist? Or is existence defined exclusively by the physical self? If there were a way to transfer all the memories of a man into a new body when the old body, complete with mind and memories died, would the man still exist, even though the being which is physically present is brand new and never actually lived the memories? Is existence defined by physical form, or a continuity of consciousness?
@TheRobbie0003 "If a man totally loses his memory, does he still exist?" Does WHO still exist? WHO is the point! There IS a man still alive, still living, but existence pertains to the WHO that we ARE. In this case, it would be a persson who is now existing as someone with amnesia. Existence is a meaningful stretch of temporality, a thrown retaining that projects and awaits.
False dichotomy. How about both? This Cartesian starting point of an individual "I" is what Heidegger thought was incorrect. Instead of starting at the individual "I" consciousness Heidegger took a new perspective and saw that instead of being a mind creating the world around us we are just part "of the world" the act of being conscious towards objects comes later in the chain. It was a scandal to start from the inside and infer our way out
@TheRobbie0003 I have temporal lobe epilepsy I often lose all memory, the other night I awoke to find myself in a strange room in an old japanese house... I wandered and pieced together I had moved to tokyo, the kanji jogged my memory. it took about 3 mins to recall. The "I" however always remains unchanged, the self is the only certainty I can cling to infact, declarative memory is really a tiny subset of the self.... though ofcourse this truth doesnt make for good popular fiction...
As far as I understand Heidegger "being" is intertwined with the concept of authenticity. You can correct me if I'm wrong, but understanding, thinking, and speech are all attributes that a "human being" should have which would distinguish him or her from living beings. The paradoxical aspect of his philosophy to me is that we're embedded in language. Yet it's hard for me to understand that point when language can be so ambiguous. Is it possible to reach a concrete definition of language?
What are your thoughts on Heidegger's notion of Being in relation to Hindi ideas of Brahman or other Eastern concepts such as the Tao, Mahayana etc. Would love to hear your thoughts.
So our mind can only understand what we already know. Maby we are here to find new interpretations of the same truth, which manifest in the subjectifity of our individual paths of life. We lose and find ourselfs ever and ever again until all possibilitys are exhausted. That would be consistent with my experiences.
Thank you, Professor. Im actually still having problems fully grasping his notions on art...
