Heenan says in his ROH shoot interview with jim cornette Saito got involved because he thought one of the police officers was going to shoot Patera as he put his hand on his side arm when Patera started to resist the cops
Patera and Mr Saito made an assualt on a McDonald's, hurling a rock through a window. When the cops came to arrest them, they took down the cops, including a female police officer who required hospitalization afterward. For his crimes, Patera was sentenced to prison, where he had to endure forced colon cleansings for two years.
They could technically say he was negatively influenced by Heenan, as Bobby managed Patera in the AWA from '82-'83. However that would acknowledge not only other talent, but an entire organization. In 1987, there was no way in the world Vince would do that.
2 years in prison for tossing a rock through the window? now sit down.. turn to your left and continue the story about what it was like sitting in jail
I understand referring to Mr. Saito as a "co-defendant" versus by name. I also don;t get people bitching that the WWF didn't mention wrestlers who weren't in the league on their programs. Why would you put someone over who isn't in your company? It makes sense to me.
Saito wasn't in the WWF at the time, and we all know according to 80's WWF logic, if you were a wrestler that wasn't currently employed with the company, you didn't exist
He got to years because he beat the shit out of all those cops and made them look bad and hurt there pride.which is bullshit.he was never in trouble before and he got 2 years for this?
Whoa, what's with Mean Gene's commentary? So someone who beats up police officers (beating a female officer so badly she lost some of her teeth) should get what, community service?
In fairness though, it isn't all that far fetched to believe Ken Patera's story (according to his shoot interview) that the cops broke down the door and attacked him first (spraying him with mace) Now I normally side with police on issues of "brutality" but I do know that rogue cops exist and that Patera might not have been that out of line doing what he did.
I also find it funny that Mean Gene knows specifically not to mention Saito by name, instead referring to him simply as a "co-defendant" Vince McMahon seemed to have a strict policy about never mentioning wrestlers names on TV who weren't contracted with the WWF or even acknowledging the fact that other wrestling organizations besides the WWF existed. I always thought that was stupid of them, especially when someone from another org came in and announcers acted like they never saw him before
Remember, EVERYTHING WAS BOBBY HEENAN'S FAULT. Ken Patera had absolutely no control of his actions, and it was all due to being in the vicinity of Bobby Heenan. It is also Bobby Heenan's fault because people such as Gene Okerlund and Gorilla Monsoon do not like Bobby Heenan. I really don't think this video emphasizes that point enough. Let me say once again, this is all Bobby Heenan's fault, because Bobby Heenan is evil.
I love how they try to blame Heenan for Ken Patera and Saito throwing the boulder through the window. Nevermind the fact the McDonalds incident happened before Patera even got to the WWF. He was in the AWA during that time, while Heenan was working for the WWF. Even though I liked this angle, it made no chronological sense whatsoever.
Actually you're wrong, Patera was in the WWF for a few months, as a member of the Heenan family, and he was being built to feud with Hogan. In fact, Patera and Big John Studd were a tag team for a few months in the WWF right before Patera went to jail.
No, he wasn't. I remember seeing an AWA show in which Gary Michael Capetta announced "Ken Patera and Mr Saito will not be on the card today.... because they have been arrested!" Also, if he was in the WWF at that time, why would he be hanging out with Saito and wrestling in Wisconsin which was a big AWA market?
The McDonalds incident happened in 1984 when he was still working for the AWA. He was convicted in 1985 when he was working for Vince. Does that make sense now?

Long before Kurt Angle & Mark Henry. Ken Patera was one of the old school wrestlers who began his athletic career with the Olympics.

I love Mean Gene's editorializing over Patera's sentence at 4:15.
Hey Gene, how well would society be off if everyone was throwing boulders through drive-thru windows and getting slapped on the wrist for it?
MarvinYoureNaked 3 years ago 2
You do realize this was an angle and Gene didn't really believe that right?
Lannis32 3 years ago
when you compare the average sentences for manslaughter, 2 years does seem a bit harsh.

If everthing Gene's saying is true, shouldn't Heenan have been charged in connection with the McDonald's incident?
