  • it doesn't sound like a porsche because it is not a porsche

  • my porsche 930 turbos make a hell of a lot of noise.

  • Wow. I wish I could get 9 minutes and 45 seconds of my life back.

  • My 2003 Outback has that same noise with the shifter at 5:40

  • so did anybody get to go on a date with ur girlfriend yet?

  • That's pretty fast for a car that big.

  • Hey Matt, I agree with some of the minor annoyances of this car, but this sure is one great car to import up in Canada. We've got the exact same car you reviewed, less the nav. system at $32k out of the US dealership, and paid $3200 in import taxes. For $36k up here in Canada, that probably wouldn't be enough mid range CR-V, or RAV 4. Sucks that we aren't allowed to import every kind of car from the US up to Canada, you guys have the best prices anywhere!

  • so did anyone else end finding the balloons and calling you back?

  • @ TheSmokingTires I think that horrible noise is more of the CVT than the engine. but i agree 100%

  • @markhenderson123 The 6-cylinder was and is only available with the 5-speed sutomatic, not the CVT, so no dice.

  • i almost pissed my pants laughing when i saw the balloons going to the lines!

  • liked everything about the video except the balloon bits.

  • the 2012 version has an updated engine that has 27X hp and it is pretty fast. It also sounds better than that. The throttle problem he describes is not in the new update. and it does have a mpg next to the clock. just have to hit a button

  • You should of did what Dodge did, put car keys on the ballon. If you find the ballon, you get a free car.

Dodge released a car, and his it somewhere in the world, and they said if you find it, you keep it. It was a cool ad.

  • You left out the B9 Tribeca

  • who cares about littering - tree hugging hippies

  • Apparently the didn't read the manual. You can reset the mileage guage to show average mileage over the distance of the trip odometer. That is a much more useful. You can also set it to show miles until fill-up.

  • hahahaha

  • i dont think he knows wat utilitarian means

  • @TheFpastino - almost sounds religious...LOL

  • @JOHNINCOLUMBUS kinda is haha...it means something like --- people who believe that all people should be as happy as possible.

  • Is that the guy from borat? Talidega nights lol ?

  • THis guy is a tool bag!!!!

  • true about the pull of the torque, yep and the noise.I have a 98 outback legacy. When I drive I can go slow one minute and then I notice on certain roads I'll just take off.

  • @victoriakapshaw Yes I own a Subaru 98 outback legacy too, and I know how crappy the throttle is. and as the matter of fact, it's better than handling an overly senstitive throttle on a ford. I gotten used to it. It is noisy when it exceeds the 3,000 rpm. But I can tolerate it. Because Subarus are awesome. Especially the annerversary editions. What mileage do your subaru have right now? Just curious.

  • that Pearl Jam tattoo needs tidyin' up dude!....and Hi from another Pearljammer!

  • i hate the sound of french in the morning...

  • try and find a car that has those features for less than 40K?

  • great video

  • i thought tracy was chubbier...

  • I found the baloon, where and when should I meet your girlfriend?

  • This guy is the biggest pussy ever.

  • we just bought one a 3.6r limited one only option we didnt get was the navi! cars great beat a csx type r from a stoplight lmao! throttle response isnt to bad way better than our lincoln mkz and the torque is fantastic pulls hard from 2000

  • what a great idea !! date with the girlfriend .French connecion and kiss!

  • Thank you! I got a 2008 Impreza and yeah the throttle response is horrific; exactly 1.5 seconds before anything happens.

  • i seriously found the white balloon here in wyoming!

  • the instant mpg is above the radio bro

  • @Bruiser2117 no its not its on the dash beside the rpm gauge bottom left corner , we just bought one a 3.6r limited

  • holy crap you're whiny.

  • assholes, littering with balloons

  • We have an '06 with a standard trans, terrible transmission. Great car but the shifting is awkward due to the lever placement and the clutch is too touchy.

  • @birdmankustomz666

I have a 2010 Impreza with a standard transmission and I agree that Subaru clutches are extremely touchy.

  • hah really helpful vid. and really entertaining thumbs up :D

  • nice video homie, wonder what ur girl thought of going out with a random did it actually happend, did soem1 find the baloons?

  • Subaru trashed the car for the American market

  • great review. my first time watching and very very helpful

  • "Subaru has introduced it's new throttle-by-carrier pigeon system." Lol

  • A real non pc review !!!!!!!!!!!

  • sounds like an east coast transplant

  • Seems like it would be a whole lot better if they still offered the manual with the 3.6--Or the Outback XT (turbo) with manual. Subarus apparently have notoriously bad automatic transmissions. I just picked up a 2001 Outback and I'm trying to find some good dirt roads to play on out here.

  • Did someone actually call you? LOL

  • sounds like matt wants porsche to make a competitor for the outback.

  • OMG, your pimping out your girl friend for a ballon! Shame on you! LOL that the Chef found it. i think its destiny!

  • does anyone know where that dirt road is located??

  • As far as the sound, you are mistaken. It is unique Subaru flat 6, due to unique firing order 1-6-3-2-5-4 ;

    Porsche flat 6: 1-6-2-4-3-5

Other 6 cylinder engines have this firing order:

    1-5-3-6-2-4, 1-6-5-4-3-2 or 1-2-3-4-5-6. Chevy Flat 6: 1-4-5-2-3-6

Even the 4 cylinder Subaru flat 4 is unique:

    1-3-2-4

Regular 4 cylinders have this :

    1-3-4-2 , or VW/Porsche flat 4: 1432

  • Reasons to get them:

Best gas mileage for any 4wd vehicle, mid 20s. Lot of interior space. The most important reason is low depreciation. In 5 years, this $24k car will be worth about $15k. Besides, in 5 years it will be safer than anything else in that price range. 10 year old Subarus are safer than most 2010 cars on the road, and this is probably the reason for high resale value. Also, It will tow as much as any minivan or midsize SUV about 4000lbs.

  • @83ls Yeah, and I don't know many minivans that can do 120+mph, nor SUVs for that matter, and that is the most annoying part about Trucks, that 95mph top speed.

  • Dick Tracy

  • "...i still wanna collect tracy date" LMAO that french guy is freakin hilarious. added a nice touch to your video. great review too

  • Lol is your gf the same "tracy" from the civic si episode?

  • @phantomloita yes.

  • WHAT IS THE MERCEDES AT THE STARTUP

  • @broncofan12312 the one doing the burnout is a CLK black series

  • hey i found that ballon lol

  • can it tow 10,000lbs?

  • @023338 no, definitely not.

  • @023338

    it only tows 24000 lbs

    with the 2.5L

    and the 3.6L or w/e is 26000lbs

I just bought it in case your wondering how i know. =D

and what this guy says is exactly true, buy the base version its excellent value and i love it, but all the other "options" are totally worthless

  • @OfficerSheepDog ??? Twenty Four THOUSAND POUNDS? I believe you mean 2,400 ans 2,600

  • @Zinizzle

    yes yes.

  • @023338 lol. Maybe 9000 but not 10000 xD

  • Great review, thanks.

  • can anyone tell me where this dirt road is locate?

  • Why can't car manufacturers just stick to a good old throttle cable? What has ever gone wrong with a classic throttle cable? Who needs all these electric throttle doodads, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

  • @manrightchea Its because the safety electronics such as ABS, ESP, and TC need to know the position of the throttle from the driver and act accordingly in a dangerous situation. Everything is done electronically hence the throttle by wire.

  • @manrightchea Actually I just found out today that there still is a good old throttle cable under the plastic cover on my Ford Escape V6. Problem is they're still electronically controlled. It bothers the hell outta me too though.

  • Hey... you're left handed. Me too... fuck yeah!

  • Agreed on the value thing....we bought a base model for a little over 20K.

As long as you maintain Subies-they pretty much last forever. We had one that we sold after 300K+ miles.

Still ran great although there wasn't much of the body left :-)

  • Oh crap! Frenchie is back! May I suggest a restraining order Matt? He reminds me of buffalo bill from silence if the lambs!

  • That thing can tear up hill in some leary roads. I could follow, but I'd LOLOVERSTEER off the cliff at some point.

  • hey matt would your reccomend this car for the bigger guys. not sure exactly how big you are

  • @manlyman6392 First you'd have to define "bigger." You could be like 800 pounds and have to be taken out of your house by a forklift or something. If that were the case, you may want to fold down the rear seats and have them load you in the giant cargo area. If you're over 6 foot 10, I'd recommend opening the sunroof.

  • balloons are bitch's :|

  • haha, awesome idea with baloon and date =))

  • wow hold on, the dodge viper is not going to be made any more?

  • @151soccer no, 2011 is the last model year for the Viper.

  • It'a kinda Cayenne in front:)

  • Staged and Bi-curious, Funny though. Matt would you ever do motor cycles? I know this is mainly about cars but there's not really a good American Motorcycle Review show. There MCN online and that's about it.

  • @delayedmuffin working on it. Motorcycles are tough, and as much as I love them, I'm not exactly an expert on them. We'll see

  • Was that a mickey beside his coffee?

  • lol good ending hahaha

Subaru, set the WRX aside, is defiantly on the top of my list for practical reliable new car brand thats a good value. Apparently in base trim.

  • 6:40 that is a nice view

  • Matt, I know this is a weird place to ask but since its the newest video i figured it would be easier to answer. For the hell of it, I was wandering if you were ever planning to do a review on the current Viper since it's going to be gone in the summer anyway, and if by shear luck of the draw be able to review the SSC Ultimate Aero, because that is one badass car that more people need to know about. Just felt like asking because these are 2 of my favorite cars and they are just plain awesome

  • @Fallout667 If we can find someone stupid enough to lend us a Viper, then yes, absolutely, and we are trying to get some exclusive video of the new SSC this year.

  • @Fallout667 *Correction, I found someone *awesome* enough to lend us a Viper. Shoot it sometime in July.

  • you'll give us a date with your GF. wow... yeah cuz you own your GF and you'll tell her that she has to go with a random stranger. misogynistic tentative?

  • @mcheddadi That's what I said...

  • @mcheddadi it's called comedy, ever heard of it?

  • Very good review. Much more consumer and enthuiast centered than the dry reviews in something like motortrend. Its a car show unlike the "first tests" that magazines provide.

  • Ohhhhhh Myy God, That's histerical. I hope there was a password or somethin on that baloon because you're going to get loads of knockoffs, "In the shape of balloon" of course. If I were the one to find, it I'd let you keep the girl and take the your Vette instead.

P.S. You don't need to reply to this, I wouldn't make ya do that, in case she watches the show.

  • Doesn't really look like a wagon anymore.

  • subaru..the smoking tire...no way. This is a first id it not? @SSPOPE: The original subarus rear end starting with ea four cyls was modeled after a bmw 2002. I still drive a cushy lambo handling 1987.. yes they can hang with the best of them. Today is not so extreme, and the type of suspension is very common, but yesterday, they really did go with euro.

  • Man, this show just keeps getting better. Funny and amiable but still placing the importance on being informative.

  • companies sell performance chips that work the same way as that throttle... its supposed to give good gas mileage while cruising and a shit load of power when you put the hammer down... my grand cherokee is the same way (its REALLY annoying that there is NO in between) but you get used to it

  • I love how Andre turns this show from a normal everyday car reviewing show into some sort of dystopian Kubrick-like character.

  • the first part about the gas petal; where you said it doesnt respond for a full half second and once it does it gives u too much....this is the exact same thing for my dads BMW 328i i think its an 05. but i mean it responds soo slow and push it firther down doesnt help bcuz you get way to much power but a little quicker...we might just drive another one of same model to see if this is normal for the car

  • I appreciate that you give a lot of focus on material quality in your reviews. The sound the shifter makes is quite horrible and could get really annoying overtime. I'm not being sarcastic, btw.

Other than that, I really miss the SUV era that started at the beginning of this millennium. I still remember laughing at the AWD sticker on an Outback from back then while sitting in my Lexus LX, which I proudly still own - had been threatened by treehuggers only once (@ South Coast Plaza parking lot).

  • good review!

  • It looks good, but a 04 WRX wagon looks better, I guess their a bit of a different purpose. maybe it would be a good car for people who eat a lot of granola bars and like to shop at organic grocery stores, not really a hoonmobile.

BTW when are those TST shirts coming out?

  • That was an awesome set up lmao!!

  • How can you compare the Subaru boxer engine to the Porsche? They are so different in so many ways. Ha, nice. Stopping by the power lines to release the balloons.

  • @swinglow33 They are the only flat sixes in production, as far as I know, and both the 911 and Subaru are 3.6L engines.

  • heY I found one in jersey can i get a t shirt?

  • Just get a Jeep Cherokee

  • hahah, funnny.

I would rip those pointless floppy paddle shifters off... I think Matt has a very good point about the base model being the only real thing to buy. thumbs up!

  • Can I go on a date with you cause you seem like an awesome guy to hang with LOL!

  • Throttle by carrier pigeon, lmfao.

  • i need to know where exactly that dirt road is, and how to get there. name of the road and the city please? it looks like an area with a lot of possible hoonable dirt roads. need the city please!!

  • ok the first episode that the french guy was in i hated him, but that was hilarious

  • I gotta ask, what does your GF look like?

  • @ethosflux she appears in the last few minutes of the video. She also appears in the Honda Civic Si review.

  • @TheSmokingTire

Did he really find that balloon cause it seems it bit sketchy.

  • @DZoneTV no he is joking the balloons andre was holding were still floating if he had found them they would have been flat or popped

  • @DZoneTV He has appeared before...

  • i don't like the looks of the new outback and legacys

older ones are much better looking, here in eu we had h6 legacy spec.b i always thought its a great car but not as flashy as german vehicles, great for people who want a good car but without looking like cock

anyway if some baloon manage its way through the vulcano shit and over the ocean and half of europe and lands near my building i'll send you an email since calling you would cost me a fortune

  • And too bad the ONLY Legacy wagons sold in the US are Outbacks with the raised suspension. We can no longer get a rtegular Legacy wagon!

A Legacy STI would be awesome

  • what is the tatoo on his left hand?

  • Lol that was a great review. Odd question about Andre The Homeless French Chef, is that Jonathan Blitt, the one from MTV's "Boiling Points" or something?

  • @Dragsteryourself yes, it is.

  • Buy the base model? The one with only 170 hp? Are you sure?

Also are you sure this is the best riding car you've ever come across? What about luxury car?

  • @sspope after I said the "best riding car," i realized i should have clarified the statement a bit.

    1) yes, the base car is better. It's way cheaper, and the transmission options (6M, CVT) should eliminate the terrible throttle response with the 5A transmission.

    2) It's not an air-ride S-class Benz, but the Outback's relatively simple suspension floats over bumps better than any other "reasonably priced" car I've driven, especially on terrible potholes or dirt. Better than any SUV for sure.

  • @TheSmokingTire If the H6 were a great engine, I'd say it's worth it for the extra power. But the H6 is an average engine, at best. Better to save your money and get the 4-banger. It's just as functional a car, will get better economy, and has better transmission options.

  • @TheSmokingTire

Could be a nice car with 6M, but all CVTs I've experienced were horrid. They make the car feel like a boat.

Btw. do you think Legacy GT is a good driver's car? In Japanese Best Motoring shows, Subaru representatives often state they want to compete with luxury and sports badges such as BMW. Do you think Legacy or something else from Subaru's range can be a worty 3-series competitor?

  • @sspope depends. The last-generation Lecacy GT Spec B was one of the best sleeper cars out there. A few plumbing and software tweaks would help it positively smoke an S4 or M3 on a highway. I actually owned a 1998 Legacy GT as well. While it's a great car for the money, it's not competitive with BMW or Audi except on paper.

  • nice shot with the balloons Mat =) , well i thing is that we know 1 is easy to Locate .

just need something to insulate myself from powerlines =)

  • @nicocrank that balloon freed itself

  • ok was that a complete set up or did he really find the balloon with tracy's name on it?

  • @Rohan419 Probably a setup. If he really found it it would've been flat/deflated. Also, that would take longer than an hour

  • That was hilarious, more Andre!

  • When are you guys uploading the GT500 Bullrun video?

  • @MUSTANGmaniak2010 The Bullrun Rally is from July 9th to 16th. We will be uploading 1 video per day during the rally.

  • I always see you make videos for newer cars. I actually would love to see older car reviews like you did on the lotus.

  • @KllassIIK 2 problems with that: 1) Older cars are much harder to find, and hard to find owners who will just let us use their cars all day long to film with. 2) Most people are searching for information about the newest cars online. So, while some of our more dedicated subscribers will watch whatever videos we make, we need to be expanding to new audiences with every episode. And new audiences look for new cars. No one is searching "1955 Chevy Nomad Review" on Youtube.

  • @TheSmokingTire I didn't mean that old. I meant pretty much 20 years or so. How about a review on the new GTI huh? I've been waiting. :)

  • @KllassIIK In 2 weeks.

  • @TheSmokingTire Thanks.

  • I'm a little less than enthusiastic about winning a date with Matt's girl.... He's a pretty big guy and I really don't want my legs broken.

  • nice review :p
