The Bulgarian Makarovs are the most easy to find now , Shotgun News has them for around $230
I just bought a mint one with holster , 2 mags and few boxes of ammo off a guy at the flea market. Also got a Mosin m44 carbine from him too. Gave him $200 for the pair and no paper work either : ) Haven't shot it yet but seems like a good pistol
@The1cemanCometh No you idiot i'm from bulgaria and my father is a staff sargeant in the bulgarian army ...so stop writing bullshit when you don't know a dick.
@12ismet You're right, I don't know a dick, but I'm sure you know many dicks. You probably have one in your hand as we speak. Makarov's are manufactured in Russia, BULGARIA, Germany, and China. Looks like you don't know shit.
how much would one of these cost, for Christmas i am thinking about getting a Makarov and a Mosin to go with it, i am not looking for a Specific model.
@farcry2outlaw I got mine from a gentleman for $235 and he gave me one mag and 50 rounds; however, online retailers charge about $230 (J&G) but of course you have to account for the FFL transfer. Don't pay more than $300 for it (some people are unscrupulous) unless it's an east German one or Chinese (yeah Chinese) because they are very rare.
im in australia how can i get these,JOKES! we dont even allow bb guns firecrackers fireworks and now proper cap guns arent legal! GOVERNMENT MOTHERFUCKERS!
The problem I see with carrying that thing is since the fireing pin is free flooting, if dropped on the mussel(even with the safety on) it could still go off. That happened alot with my grandpa plus sometimes if you go to a country that used that pistol(like east Germany) it's pretty common to find old soldiers walking around with out there big toe
makarovs are considered robust and whit big caps. thats why they dont jam. however also makes them inaccurate, and indeed they are very old pistols, used in service by some countries even nowadays. First was in service in 1951, so very old.
@trancesendable I have 3 and they are very accurate actually. The barrel is fixed to the frame, so it doesn't move around unlike handguns. So you're full of it.
@trancesendable They maybe you want a target pistol then, not a combat pistol. The Makarov is fine in accuracy, but it's inferior to modern pistols in most other ways.
@2damaxmr2 funny they dont compete whit makarovs then lmao xD our police says u better throw the gun at the target than shoot, they say its good for breaking peanuts xD
BULGARIAN MILITARY??? IT IS JUST OLD SOVIET PM,MAKAROV AND ON GRIP IS SOVIET STAR,AND THERE IS NO NEW MAKAROVS,ONLY BAIKAL PM IS NEW VERSION OF MAKAROV!
@DmitriRussian It means the same thing as " semi-auto." A semi-automatic firearm is a firearm that self-loads after a round is shot, and will continue to self-load until there are no more rounds in the clip.
quick question, I have a Makarov, and when i fired it the firing pin jumped out the back of the gun. Now when i put the pin in it just keep coming out. i just need someone to help me out, how can i keep it in.*
@JUX609 the problem is most likely your safety. it sounds like a part of it may have broken. thankfully they are very easy to find and easy to replace. also check the firing pin and make sure none of it has been sheered off. i have a makarov of my own. in fact i just picked up a safety with spring on ebay for about $40 to have as a backup of if they become hard to find.
You can buy one in perfect condition, brand new for about 100 U.S. dollars. In Bulgaria, there are thousands left over from the Cold War. I've shot with this and I can say that is pretty good
@andy0705b Well i meant about NEW pistol, from the old military reservs. The are around 100 US dollars. Original, never used weapon. There is a military base near my home, and they have about 5000 brand new. And there are many military bases, with thousands weapons taht were never used. Private companies buy weapons from Ministry of Defence, and then sell them, unfortunatly they take out the original documents that contain information about test firing.
It looks very easy to pull down the trigger guard in order to disassemble the handgun. Is it an issue for this to happen accidentally? And can you actuate the safety with the left hand if holding it in that hand, even if it's a little awkward?
I really like your videos They are well made and the camera isn't shaking all over the place. I am a Makarov lover. They are excellent for conceal and I prefer an all netal pistol to the soq called modern plastic POS.
Actually there's better and improved concealed carry pistols, which are modern day handguns. But it's a nice piece, do the Russian military still use those?
@valiosubaru There is a symbol on all PMs that you can tell the country of manufacture. You can't see it in this video, you'd have have it in front of you to tell.
@alien4sd The makarov was designed in russia and then was supplied and manufactured by the communist eastern european countries. The best model is the east german makarov.
@valiosubaru yes but the alloy of the german gun is better, the finish is better.I do not going to argue about the performance, cause I have not shot the german Makarov.
I had a early import Norinco from way back in the late 80s early 90s..on the outside it was finished on par with a Smith revolver, take the slide off and it looked like it was finished with a belt sander. Shot sweet though, really did...copperwashed steel core ammo in little 16rd boxes..it was a trip. I then joined the US Army and sold it off to a buddy for like $90, collectors item nowadays...who would know? ha ha
that gun had import marks,.... i like the german made makarovs... the triggers are a little smoother in my opinon..funny how i see more bulgarian maks then chineese ones. i would say german made ones are a rare find
Nice find! I would like to have one, but I think I have a better chance at spotting Bigfoot than finding a real Makarov. I would also be concerned about ammo availability.
There are a few Makarovs available on Gunbroker. If you wind up paying more than $300.00 then you're paying a premium for availability. Sometimes it can't be helped I guess but I can still kick myself when the old timers laugh and say "I got mine back when they were less than $200.00". As always all commonsense rules for pistols and gunbuying apply. But all in all they are great guns!
Would you be willing to part with that piece for a generous offer? I'm looking to buy a mak a soon as i turn 21 because I'm worried about all the hillbilly Jesus extremests coming to get me. Not to mention that wired ass guy in the blue uniform that keeps putting slips of paper on my mailbox once a week.
and... DON'T release the slide from the locked position without chambering a round. Not being asanine here, but that will in fact cause the "breech" / bolt whatever you will, to hit the barrel base which does not float and will cause pitting and shaving of the metal.
Instead, when ready to relax the slide, pull it to the rear and the catch will return to the spring-loaded down position allowing you to gradually allow the slide to move forward without causing damage.
Great review of a great little handgun. I had a Bulgarian Makarov and I regret getting rid of it. I shot several hundred rounds thru mine and I never had a malfunction and the fit & finish was excellent. I think I paid $225 NIB and ya just cant beat that deal. The 9x18MAK round is better than the .380ACP, IMHO...
It is great to see a new video from you. I pick up my SuperA Monday. I have the double-stack commerical Makarov, It's all the same aside from just the frame being wider. What I do with the heel release is use a common camera lanyard on it and just give it a tug and the mag drops. This wouldnt be doable with a walther pp or p38 release. I love the leather holster, though I worry a little about holster wear, the finish on mine is superb and I dont much take it out of the case, 380 is rare =(

This is a standard issue pistol used by the police because the urban applications and type of monition used.

It was used by officers and as a concealed weapon.
Primary usage - urban environment.
