  • Why would they make the one kid a nerd, and show him pushing up his stupid glasses? I can't stand that nerd!

  • "WOW look at those graphics!" ;)

  • wait a minute. hadn't already been 1988? :/

  • Awesome idea to have a full commercial break. That was pretty awesome.

  • tisha camobell was fuckable then and shes fuckable now

  • hey wats jay kyle doin there lol

  • i was born in 88

  • You know I find it amazing as a kid I hated commercials and now watching this it brings back so much memories. Nostalgia...things were so much simpler back then...

Oh well, back to being a grown up; paying bills, work a shitty job and hating life on a daily basis.

  • wow! i wanted to see more..... so much memories!

  • Why can't commercial breaks be that short now?!

  • HOLY SHIT!

    Keebler made potato skins?

  • This commercial came out in 1987 not 1988

  • wow, nice graphics!

  • Please, for the love of all that is holy, just bring back the <2 minute commercial break...

  • To think I was just a newborn.... or maybe in my momma's belly at this time.

  • waaoooahhh nice graphics!

  • man, i miss the 80s.

  • I can't believe Hollywood remade The Smurfs and turned it into utter crap!

  • @03bgood sigh.... yup.... today, they will just remake anything with semi-mass appeal and put it in 3D... and I thought Fat Albert was a bad movie...

  • it says ur parents help u hook it up.....nowadays parents dont know shit......now kids are hooking up the cable box, dvd, computers and everything else lol

  • @jamaicasgodson2125 It only said that so kids wouldn't fuck up and break the TV or knock it over or something. Seriously, there're only like two chords, it couldn't be simpler unless it was a single chord.

  • Hey... Why are the buttons for power and reset black on their NES (1:19) ? Must be rare...

  • Yeah those graphics are SOOOO awesome XD

  • Bring back O'Boisies Keebler! Those were the best potato chips ever made!

  • Those were the days, commercial breaks were only about 90 seconds long. Now days there's like 8, 30 second commercials every 8 minutes.

  • nice rack, babe

  • that nerd says the thing from the avgn episode from nintendo power!

  • See now if we see our mikey nuggets talk we dont buy them D:

  • Your parents help you "Hook it up"

  • They put in the wrong game. Zeldas Gold not Gray

  • lmfao "WHOA NICE GRAPHICSZ!!!" rly?

  • why is it that people believe ps3 and 360 are so awesome? id rather have a NES or SNES or genesis back in the day thatn those systems today...

  • i have the feeling i know the right dark haired guy from the spot... isnt he some actor today??

  • "Awesome graphics!" That is what they all say until a new system comes out. Give them an XBOX 360 and see how they would react. Owning an 360 in 1988 would have made you king of the neighborhood for life.

  • @GSPatton89 Not to mention rip the fabric of time.

  • @hey134 True there is always that factor

  • Keebler made potato chips?

  • I was born in 1988, wow, what a perspective of that time!!!

  • 2 many kids now sit on their ass playing VGs. N eating fatty foods. I forgot who made it, but remember tht nasty lookin sandwich tht uses 2 pieces of chicken where th bread suppose 2 b. It looks like a p***y :P

  • I can't watch McDonald's clown wit out being reminded of SK's It. Very creepy

  • #LOL " Nice Graphics!"

  • If those nerds saw the graphics on the 360 or PS3 they'd prolly shit themselves.

  • "Nice graphics!"

So that's where graphic-whores came from.Fuck you, kid. You made the entire video game industry go downhill!

  • now they dancing... but wait until the camera is off and the clown shows his true face.... MUHAHA

  • Poor chicken nuggets. If only they knew what they were about to go through.

  • wow...haters, back off! lol...we weren't fat ******* because we actually PLAYED OUTSIDE, which is virtually unheard of now. We ran around the neighborhood with friends and played kickball and backyard baseball and tag. Our parents actually parented us, rather than letting the tv babysit us all day so they could sit around and play games themselves...

  • @tgreer72 Agreed, I feel lucky enough to have known the joys both of electronic gaming and days spent out in the sun doing things sidewalk chalk and rubber balls.

  • @gguru1 me too...totally! we really had the best of both worlds, huh?

  • @tgreer72 i did run around 2. but i was fat back the days. and i´m ...big... today. so tell me master. what did i wrong?

  • @Zombiepull no need for sarcasm. My point was that childhood obesity was not as nearly as high back then even with McDonald's and Burger King...the restaraunts were not the problem. And I'm no size 2 either! The answer is simple. If you take in more calories than you burn, you're gonna get...big. It's not rocket science.

Funny how "health" conscience we are now and obesity is at a record high...

  • @tgreer72 I couldn't agree more man. I was 12 in 1988. I had a Nintendo and I lvoed it, played it all the time, AT NIGHT. During the day I was outside playing with my friends, and starting to look for girls (lol) I didn't try picking up girls in some chat room, or sit on my ass all day texting my friends.

I feel lucky that I grew up when I did. What a time man these commercials bring back great memories

  • @tgreer72 i still adventure oustide...

  • lame rap

  • This is awesome! Im gonna record some commercials now and later in 2020 or something im gonna watch them and be all "WOW!" lol

  • Out of curiosity, what was the purpose of your mom taping your TV watching? Not that I think there's anything wrong with in it; in fact I wish I had videotapes of my tv-watching youth.

  • @Ratgrappler Well, kids shows werent on then as often as they are now, plus we didn't have cable, so no Nick, Cartoon Network, or Disney Channel.

Then again, at the time the Disney Channel then was more like how Discovery or TLC (back then they were almost cable versions of PBS) were with a slight children's slant.

  • @gguru1 Oh, gotcha. So you recorded them to re-watch later. Makes sense.

Like I said, I wish I had the foresight to have done the same thing. But hey, I'm thankful for people like you guys who did record this stuff so I can look back on my youth. :)

  • i remember those commercials like it was yesterday

  • You can play so many of these at vnes.com

It even let's you save your game for the old RPGs. Dragon warrior n shit.

  • i miss when commercial breaks were that short.

  • Wickywickyweee~~!

  • @Zer0Funk But at the time video games were still essentially the domain of the overly studious nerd types who would be doing great in school anyway, as played up in this commercial.

  • @gguru1 True. For one games weren't as long like they are today and there was no online multiplayer to keep you playing 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

  • @Zer0Funk Hmmmm lets see... I did nothing but play Nintendo games such as Zelda and not only did I graduate high school I also host and design websites like 8 0 T O O N S . C O M , and I am now 28 and still play the same Nintendo games. So if Nintendo made me who I am today I could not ask for more....

  • Haha "Legend of Zelda Sold Seperately"

  • Your parents will help set it up

  • fucking eh, i remember that Tato Skins commercial

Wish I could go back to 1988.. oh the shit I would do differently..

  • I miss 80's TV

  • "Woah! look at those graphics!"

    "Thats totally rad man!"

    LMAO!

  • TISHA CAMPBELL YES LAWD!!!! LOL

  • @Hittman305 LMAO!!!!!!

  • your mom was a genius.

  • Can you play this online?

  • @TwinCityKillaz its called an emulator mate

  • That was a short break

  • lol, what is the girl from Martin doing there? i miss the old days of nintendo...the old mario, the old zelda, etc...

  • awwwww i wanted to wach the smerfs

  • @turdzilla123

    So i'm not alone!

  • Also the Zelda cartridge was Gold.

  • Oh I loved Tato Skins.

  • The Nintendo ad sticks out like a mentally ill child in an otherwise nondescript school classroom.

And that's saying something considering that this commercial break was during a Smurfs episode and featured an ADHD style Ronald McDonald advert and some god-awful looking crisps! Favourited. And I try to keep my favourites intelligent!

  • @Nintendomanwill the crisps actually aren't bad, they're like normal ones, but slightly crispier.

  • @gguru1

Fair enough, I've never actually had them!

  • Whoahhh nice graphics! whahah... ohhh... these days we are so spoiled with graphics. Still love to play 8-bit games though! Bye, I'm gonna watch the smurfs now... :P by the way I didn't know mcDonalds commercials where so freaky

  • hmmm... i don't remember the nes having black power and reset buttons>???

  • @0carou I guess they had a prototype unit sitting around so they used it for the commercial.

  • @0carou If you look closely at your NES packaging box, on the back is a family playing NES - but the NES isn't even turned on!

  • @0carou that's exactly what I was thinking, thats the only time i've ever seen a nes with black power buttons unless it was modded.

  • @0carou When I first seen this when I was younger I was thinking the same thing.

  • This commercial break is short!

  • OMG D: that girl in the intro played Jay form my wife and kids didnt she?

  • potato chips with the tater skin on them still? You guys have a sick taste in snacks lol

  • Looks like the commercial brakes in the USA are pretty short.

Here in the netherlands they can last 5 minutes.

  • Yeah, commercial breaks were short. 20 years ago. :p Now they go on four about five minutes.

  • yea especially the VIAGRA DEADDICK ANTIBONER PORNOGRAPHY GOES ON FOR A FUCKING DECADE RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR NEW GIRL

  • lucky

  • mc donalds is old

  • WHOSE THAT BLACK HOT CHICK..YUM

  • Tisha Campbell. Good old times.

  • broooowwn suga....sweet condoleeza

  • I wonder how those kids reacted to Twilight Princess haha

  • ONLY 3 COMMERICIALS BACK THEN....

    lucky

  • Yeah there are like 12-15 commericals shown nowadays xD

  • 1:16

    WOW, NICE GRAPHICS.

The bad acting and that qoute made me lol so bad

  • Isn't that girl from Family Matters?

  • Tisha Campbell. From Martin, Little shop of horrors, Boomerang, among others....lately with Damon Wayans in a sitcom.

  • DIdn't see the comment below. My bad.

  • LOL.. my parents couldn't hook up the VCR let alone mess with the Nintendo! And it's only gotten worse!!

  • Yeah, exactly! I always laughed at "Your parents help you hook it up." It was always the other way around.

  • "whoaaaaa, nice graphics!" looooool sure, have they even heard of "graphics" back then? rofl

  • Well, compared to the Atari 2600 this was pretty amazing.

  • YAH TATO SKINS! I remember those!

  • Hahahaha!!!!

  • Never thought of it that way. :o

  • hahahahahahahahaha

  • omg my girl tisha campbell! shes always been so pretty. i remember those chicken nuggets. it made me so hungry. lol.

  • Was this video actually recorded in 1988 or was it just filmed off an old VHS tape?

  • It's a makeshift kinescope of a tape from 1988.

  • HAHA mad old lol Ronald McDonald and the Smurfs

  • Dip to my lou LOL

  • This has a better picture than the direct screen ones you see here.

  • Woah! Nice graphics!

    Ah, the good ol' days.

  • Wow, that was a short commercial break...

  • Those were the good ol' days, all right. And when can we have hot chicks to segway the commercial breaks again?

  • You know i swear the 'lyrics' to the Zelda commercial was in the Nintendo Power newsletters in Player's Pulse back in the days.

  • The lyrics for the Zelda commercial WERE in Nintendo Power. If you check out the channel JamesNintendoNerd and find his video called "Nintendo Power" you'll see them.

  • and then he says "wait ive heard that rap somewhere before"

  • That Mcdonalds commercial was really fucking creepy.

  • Yeah, nothing makes kids want fast food like sentient, dismembered pieces animal flesh asking you to eat them.

  • Well I know that's exactly what puts me in the mood for that nasty shit.

  • Your parents help you hook it up!... That is very awesome!!!!!

  • i think its more like i help my parents hook it up

  • Inside voice there denim boy...

And what's up with the black NES deck buttons...to my knowledge they never sold such a system. . .

  • Legend of zelda WAS pretty rad.

  • Man, you could hear that VCR trying to stay alive during that video. lol

I remember all of these commercials. A nice blast from the past.

  • Jeez, about freaking time they released a BBQ flavour.

  • see the black buttons on their NES?

  • kinda cool. Alot better than the old grey buttons.

  • uhhhh , mithrandir1988, that was freakin' hilarious.. that made my day lol

  • TATO SKINS YAY!!

  • lol i wish commercials were more like this id totally buy those

  • I know right! Now i need some (lol kidding)

  • Those were the days when mcnuggets were awesome.

  • people in the 80's were sick and twisted

  • 1988 commercials were so screwed up

  • nintendo thought kids would relate to a rapping nerd

  • And now comes the funny part. These commercials finally seem to have reached Germany, so that ad-companies copy this rapping style and assume just because the US of A came up with 'rap equals kewl' that MUST be the case.

Sometimes I think there's a time-distortion field somewhere in the Atlantic...

  • Woah, hold da' phone!

Did that dude say the game was 'Rad' on the 1980's coolometer, that would be the coolest.

    Gotta get it now!

I actually could've last night, it was in that weird gold cartridge, but I decided that I wasn't too crazy about the Zelda series, so I got Super Mario Bros. Duck Hunt World Class Track Meet Excitebike and Rad Racer instead.

  • OH BOY I JUST LOVE SQUARE DANCIN'.

  • That's the girl from Martin!!

  • Tisha Campbell Martin

  • Imagine if the NES attempted to have online play. It'd be slower than dial-up, if even possible.

  • Slower than 56k perhaps, but if since it would have used a phone it can't be "slower than dialup."

I actually remember reading tat the NES's Japanese counterpart, the Famicom delved into some online capabilities.

And lets not forget that Japans version of Legend of Zelda had load times due to it shipping on a disk format.

  • What a terrifying world we grew up in...

  • FYI the theme music played when the smurfs show comes back from commercial break is the same as the the from the symphonic version of "Scheherazade".

  • if you just want to see the zelda thing go to 1:14

  • That kind of defeats the purpose of the video, the Zelda commercial itself has been all over Youtube, this is the only one that shows it in it's original context.

  • fuck those potato skins were good! tgi fridays makes some good potato skin snacks, but they're hard to find.

  • Turns out they are the same chips! The ownership of the product changed from Keebler to someone else who markets them as the TGIF chips.

  • Cool, now I want to try some while playing Legend of Zelda. I swear I've seen those chips somewhere, but I bet now that I want some I'll never find them. :P

  • yeah!!! love potato skins jojo retro tv

  • Is that Gina from The Martin show?

  • Potato Skins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    :-D

  • Thanks for posting this

  • God I miss commercials like this. Barbeque chips, hilarious. Legend of Zelda...Wow, Amazing Graphics! That's still hilarious. We also eat real live Chicken Nuggets. They bleed Ketchup.

  • omg that game looks kool when does it come out?.

  • man i remember this mcdonalds commercial

  • best commercials ever

  • INTENSE!!

  • 'drops too floor terified of the mcdonalds commercial'

  • if that keeblers commercial and mcdonalds commercials were on now, i would never want to eat that ever again... frightening

And for the kids on the Zelda commercial, that is why there is the steriotype of all people who play video games are nerds. lolnoobs

  • at the begining was the cartoon that was on smurfs?

  • No, it was Blue Midget Adventures.

The bumper saying "We Now Return to Smurfs" at the end was a broadcast error.

  • "Your parents help you hook it up!"

Fuck you! Don't tell me who needs help hooking up what.

  • lol.
