@flag5488 F.L.A.G. was small in 1982 and only needed 1 man to run it. 18 years later in the 21st century, rather than letting prisoners rot in prison, it was deemed more cost efficient and humane to cryogenically freeze them. Only, crime became progressively more difficult to handle because new criminals teamed up with those released to terrorize a new generation of people. It makes sense that F.L.A.G. became a franchise, operating in large American cities to combat the problem.
@flag5488 Maddock dismantled Kitt to sell some of his chips because F.L.A.G. needed more money on its books to look financially stable; opening a large franchise must've took a lot of Wilton's wealth. Maddock believed he was doing the right thing because Kitt was old and sacrificed him for the greater good, the Knight 4000 was almost completed, they got a good price for obsolete chips university medical centers thought were valuable, and storage would've cost money they didn't have.
At one moment, Maddock says to Devon that "Kitt was an exceptional car for his time, no question. But now its time to pass the baton." What Maddock means is he can appreciate the work Devon, Micheal, and Kitt did during their time, but as the world evolves, so must its ways of stopping crime. Maddock was tired of trying to prosecute scum and fight politicians and defense attorneys who only cared about winning. At the Foundation, he felt his work there may actually do the world a bit of good.
Maddock told him, although they don't see eye to eye on some things, they're goal is 1 and same. Devon responded that Maddock met and in most cases, exceeded all of their technical criteria with the Knight 4000, and is doing a damn good job with F.L.A.G. operations. Devon felt comfortable that should Maddock take the reigns one day, in case any thing ever happened to him, he knew that F.L.A.G. would be in good hands.
This movie is nothing more than a boring, tired epilogue of the TV-show. Nothing in it has the atmosphere or look of the original true Knight Rider. Superman 4. had it's returning cast as well, and it was a complete disater. This movie is better than that of corse, but still awfully poor and weak.
Same here: 2 stars for this mementotrash, and only 1 star for both Night Riser Team and the 2008 series! They have no idea, what made the 1982 series so good.
I wonder if this is a metaphor for my old math teacher..he is retired now and he doesn't seem to want to be be my friend but nevertheless, like Devon I will always be there looking out for him.
Funny how ever time Michael Knight says no to something , Devon all ways brings up the "we saved your life bit" seems Michael has more then repaid that more times then you can count and deserves to live a peacefull retired life. Devon then goes into a speech of how he feels and what is important in life to help people when you can....Which is fine not saying it isn't Devon just seems like type of person who is all work no play so to speak.
I know I've said in the past that this movie sucked, but, now that I realize from a nostalgic stand-point that it wasn't all that bad, after-all & there were still some things I really didn't like about it, though it's border-lining on nit-picking, I'd still highly recommend this over the 1997 epic failure known to us as 'Batman & Robin'.: :) .
Check out my sound-track review for 'Knight Rider 2000' when it comes up.
I just KNEW what Michael's sole condition for coming back to the Foundation was going to be, even before he was going to say it, and it about brought tears to my eyes when Devon smiled, and told him that 'he' would be waiting for them when they arrived. Not one single fan, not one single true fan, would EVER have to ask who 'he' was.
One of the greatest pairings of man and machine ever-- together again. In concept, a beautiful thing. In execution, not as much as it could have been.
@LS1Heli I think this premired in 91,GM was still making the 3rd gen F-body. But you're right, that would have been better than the red Banshee,at the very least, paint the damn thing black !!
I hated this movie, such an anticlimactic ending to a legendary show. The old Knight Rider spirit was gone. No Bonnie/April. No Knight Rider theme song. The way they killed Devon was pathetic, that man deserved better. And the worst of all, the new KITT model sucked ass. Why couldn´t they just bring back the original car with some upgrades? That vehicle is the very icon of Knight Rider! Nothing can´t surpass the legendary early '80s Trans Am.
No one ever suggested that what we do is ever easy......Nothing worthwhile ever is!
One Man Can Make a Difference!
Those words always hits home for me...each and everytime I tend to lose faith in something (the justice system mostly) and I go back to this clip and after watching it over and over again, I always remind myself to keep fighting to make things right because things can change.
R.I.P., Devon.: :( .; "One of the best names in the history of film & television, outside of 'Knight Rider 2000', 'Knight Rider' & 'Battle-Star Gallactica'.", in my view.
The movie was great! It was just horribly, horribly depressing! And the music (ugh) stabs you straight in the heart! Love the movie but after I watched it the first time I was so traumatized it took me two years to ever watch Knight Rider again! Love the movie though... just need to brace myself when I watch it. Nostalgia everywhere, death, tradgedy, damn... the movie is a heartbreaker but a must see for Knight Rider fans.
This movie is not as bad as some people say. The nostalgic factor and references are everywhere, specially in most of the old characters lines (KITT included).
I just KNEW what Michael's sole condition for coming back to the Foundation was going to be, even before he was going to say it, and it about brought tears to my eyes when Devon smiled, and told him that 'he' would be waiting for them when they arrived. I totally agree with you! When I watched Knight Rider when I was a kid, I didn't like Michael, but now, after 10 years, I come to recognize how great a "pairing" both are.. Michael will never find a truer friend than KITT.. *sniff*
It's a shame Edward Mulhare was killed off but I think he was ill anyway... her certainlly sounds it!! This was a good movie - maybe not the best but it was good - but the Knight 4000 just wasn't up to scratch... I think if they had brought back the original body it would have been better!
Those words never leaves me when I first watched the series when I was a kid. I always loved the Trans-Am that Wilton build for Michael and it sucks that Maddock dismantled KITT's body to keep FLAG going.
Sadly, I haven't seen this movie or the episode where they dismantled KITT and put him in the blue car. Why did they have to dismantle KITT? That Trans-Am was awesome!!!
Maddock dismantled Kitt to sell off some of the computer chips for funding to make the balance sheet look good for the city Govt. This was to beef up their image and look like they're not strapped for cash so they can get the contract signed by the city.
But it didn't matter because city Govt was in on the banned handguns situation and wanted the Knight Foundation out of the way. One way to do so is by not signing the contract.
@betatalk357 Maddock was a jerk, but what I liked about him is that he cares about victims rights more than criminal rights. In the scene where Russell Maddock and Devon Miles were having the meeting with the city officials, liked what Maddock said to them. Those city officials are perfect examples of liberalism being a mental disorder.
@jeffman52001 Damn straight, because when it all comes down to it, there's RIGHT and there's WRONG. Society must worry about the innocents first, then the guilty. If the guilty are repentant and want to stop committing evil, either they should've never committed evil to begin with or should have never perpetrated so much evil to warrant so much hatred against criminals. i.e. violence against old people, home invasions and kidnappings, murder, etc.
I love this scene. Devon Miles and Michael Knight talking to one another. Devon needing Michael's help cause for a lot of reasons and remember what Wilton Knight said, "One man can make a difference" and Michael being that man. Actually that isn't true. This movie was made in 1991 -- he didn't get sick until after he finished filming his part in Out To Sea in 1996. He went to see a doctor, who diagnosed lung cancer. He grew rapidly sicker and sicker and went in and out of comas for the last three months of his life, dying in May of 1997.
They killed him off and cut Michael down to a guest shot because they wanted a whole new look for the series, that failed miserably. I hated this movie and them killing him!
They should have done another series with the red car and David Hass. The new series are just boobs and visual effects.

Ok, first off if Wilton Knight was so "rich" why did F.L.A.G. go looking for a "partner".
Second why was kitt dismantled? He could have been put in storage
