@agemangirl1919 Don't say such silly things please. Are you saying that those ridiculous and expensive ceremonies were better than giving democracy to the french people ? If you don't know, I'll tell you : the average french peasant was starving at this time, when the nobles were hunting deers or spending millions playing to cards... It's a bit like having a drink with Bernard Madoff and laugh about the homeless people.
Louis was a gentleman. He wanted to do the right thing. He refused to allow his guards to fire on his people. He defended his Queen and pleaded on her behalf for mercy. He died with bravery. Whatever one thinks of the French monarchy or his predecessors or of the system over which he presided, Louis XVI was a lived and died a man.
Well, that's good. I'm glad you liked this movie. But Jefferson was educated, gentlemanly, well versed and mannerly. None of which shows in Nolte's performance.
Maybe he's not as refined as you would have liked but I liked the country gentleman aspect of his characterization and his pride of being a farmer and a Virginian. but thanks for your comments.
Have people become too complacent with modern living? Have people forgotten the tyranny of subjugation to a king? Have people forgotten the horrors of slavery? Will they wake up before it is too late?

It is a pity that France abolished her monarchy. French royal ceremonies were usually grand spectacles and would have been nice to watch them today.

@Perversus666
Oh, please, you are overreacting. I hear that Madoff's son took his own life.

Well, that's why they made Nick Nolte's version for you, and Stephen Dillane's extraordinary version in "John Adams" for me. C'est la vie!

Yes, now everyone's happy

This version of Thomas Jefferson's stint as emisary to France is terrible by acurate historical standards.

Comment se fait t'il que pour une production française Ce Thomas Jefferson parle espagnol au lieu de l'anglais ??
SaintPopeStar 2 years ago
C'est la version espagnole... donc Jefferson parle en espagnol (et les français parlent en français comme en VO)
