These Volvos and most modern engines have a mass airflow meter which determines how much air is being drawn and matches other engine parameters to this by use of ECM The inherent vacuum created by the car's vacuum system is fixed ie. the process of the pistons falling into the cylinders. If you increase stroke on an engine you will have more vacuum, therefore allow more air into the system. Cone filters draw warm , less dense air from the engine bay and this produces less power.
I'm confused, I've read that the cone shaped air filters were better because they technically have more surface area, but in these comments it says otherwise. Besides, I'd think a cotton or cloth material would have smaller holes so it would let less through than paper with holes in it.
I'm trying to figure out if these are a good part, since I've heard it increases gas mileage because the increase in airflow and cooler air make the fuel/air mixture better or something.
Removing the original air filter housing and filter will DECREASE performance. Try it on a rolling road, many people are annoyed with K&N for this - and the fact a K&N doesn't even filter the air. The reason for a filter is to take dust and dirt out of incoming air and not to restrict performance in any way. It is an urban myth. Take a paper filter with a 13ft surface area and tiny holes, compare it to a 1ft filter area like a K&N. It needs BIG holes to pass the same air but damages the turbo
@mtpwrstroke Well I find it interesting you were searching for "gay video". What were you hoping to find or is that an obvious question. There are plenty of sites that cater for your needs, but be warned - some gay men and women also like cars.
sounds like a muffled gallardo, lol, nice job, then again, correct me if im wrong, this is a 5cyl, so half a v10 (gallardo), similarities should be there, just as inline 6's are similar to some v12's in a muffled sort of way
as far as the comment about only getting 600 hp out of a 5.4 goes, thats bullshit. maybee naturally aspirated. i think you forgot about forced induction and nitrous. dude theres theres 350's here makeing 800 hp. and the people who have those cars also have a daily driver that gets good gas mileage. i have respect for evo's, wrx's, gsx's, and any REAL race inspired car. but taking your sisters old civic and "pimping it out" as the kids say, isnt my idea of performance.
You, my friend, are especially retarded. Do you drive a Civic with a fart cannon? Look up a video on here of a twin turbo Viper. Then shut up. And don't go spouting that im a "import hater", because I drive a Toyota Celica.
dude fuck american cars.... lets see a i can buy a civic and get descent gas mileage or i can buy a big american car an get 2 miles per galon......ill take the jap carz homie
ive owned mustangs, cameros, an eclipse, a civic, and currantly on a 95 850 turbo (which is a pile of junk that is extreamly expensive to work on, and i work on it alot lol) and i dont give a damn what country you are all in, THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT! i know you ricers dont know what displacement is though haha. fuck jappers and fuck euros. get yourself a real car. buy american.
I also like a small handful of american cars such as the mustang roush and 60's gt500...but its easier to live with a japenese or european car...and im not intending to offend you or your likes/opinions...its a fact
of course u use a mustang as an example, most of u "racers" only know camaros and mustangs, if u actually knew something, you wouldnt hate on domestics.
Us "racers" aren't hating on domestics, the hate is perpetual. You guys hate back at us. I really think the automotive world would be a much better place if we all just recognized cars for what they are: cars. All of this euro, japanese, domestic shit is very immature of everybody.
i dont hate on foreign cars , mainly because i own 2.....a nissan 280zx AND a 90 jetta GLi, and love them to death, but i wish people wouldnt hate on things they know next to nothing about.
really stupid video of sum tard revving HAHAHAHAHAHAAH! speedo shot maybe would be nice.. to prove soem REAL PERFORMANCE .. which is what parts like that usually are for..... not just revving and looking ricey
I cant sit here reading whar you tossers are saying about japan and that they cant make good or fast cars? your either german or plain f#?*ing dumb!!!!! wen your playstation breaks and you join the real world type in skyline supra subaru mazda honda ect.... why not b honest and tell every 1 you cant afford the insurance for a proper car. thanx for reading
you people hating on cars from japan are dumb. A car is a car and an engine is an engine. they all work on the same basic principle, and both have pros and cons. while cars from europe may last longer they are expensive to maintain usually and aftermarket parts are hard to find for many. Cars from Japan may not last as long but they are a lot cheaper to maintain and there is a wider variety of aftermarket parts. Engines are engines. Cars are cars.
dumb ass bitch cars from japan last longer you fuck face, my honda last longer then yur ugly ass mustang, u dont noi shit u shit head my supra woop yur dodge neon
your a stupid fucking shit, he said cars from europe last longer.. a mustang and a neon are both from the US you fuck up, so read the whole post. And have fun driving your n/a 87' supra fuck nugget
Sorry bud, Japanese cars are for narrow minded idiots that think 105hp and 95tq@7500rpms is fast. Pretty bad when I can beat turbo ricers with my 3500lb boat.
In my opinion and from my experiences 850's or any volvo inline 5 for that matter don't really respond very well to big cone filters - most lose power through drawing in too much warm air - you're much better off keeping the air box and running a replacement pannel filter by K+N or Ramair - The only advantage of an induction kit is noise on an 850
@RzrBldSwe You must be mad! K&N do *NOT FILTER*, they have a small surface area so need bigger holes to allow the same amount of air through as a paper element that has smaller holes, filters and passes more air than the engine can use at full RPM. You will shotblast your turbo, I did that to mine with a K&N panel in the air filter box and the MAF sensor had oil over it. K&N didn't want to know, but they do admit their filters are NOT filters and used at your own risk. Mine is in the bin!
@RzrBldSwe Don't, it will allow huge bits of dirt through and cause pitting and wear on the turbo. Allowing big bits of dirt in to an engine causes lots of expensive problems. They look like you have sandblasted them and thrown a couple of stones in. Do NOT use anything other than a paper filter. They have much smaller holes but have a surface area 13times that of a K&N so allow MORE air through but also clean air.
K&N causes a repair bill of £200.19 for me because of the oil on the MAF.
@morgrp He is better using a paper element. It is 13times larger in surface area than a K&N. The K&N has huge holes and doesn't filter to anywhere near the required standard. This will mean your turbo is destroyed by the big bits of dirt allowed through. The K&N decreased performance on mine and caused pitting on the turbine blades. The paper filter is bigger than it needs to be so passes more CLEAN air than the engine needs at full RPM. The oil on the K&N broke the MAF sensor too. *DON'T*

there is replacement for displacement you dumb cunt

japanese or eurpoeans can do double with a 2.0 engine

especially the way fuels goin atm, rather jappo please :)
