@1954mikel I'm sorry, but you are incorrect. Bach borrowed this tune for his own composition inspired by this one. Martin Luther is widely considered by music historians to be the author of this melody in its original form. it's one of my favorite hymns!
@nashtwin8 They didn't "borrow". Bach was employed as a Leipzig church musician who was tasked to arrange the organ music for the next service and played the organ. Luther's Ein Feste Burg is a protestant standard. So we have numerous arrangements of Ein Feste Burg or paraphrases from Bach as well as from other church musicians.
Thank you my brother for this song. At the age of 17 I wrote a monologue: the speech of martin Luther at the Worms Diet and we perform the play. A group of young brazilians learned to sin "Ein Feste Burg ist Unzer Got" in german. It was an impact in central Brazil. I love this song. Thank you again!
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (September 27), I played this for Sunday School assembly. I did so because the lesson taken from Nehemiah 2: 5, 11-20. It was entitled Nehemiah: A Motivator for the People. Just thought I'd share.
Wow !!! Improvisation at its best!!! U r great!!! From the very registration to the chord progression and variations, u simply stole my heart!! I wish you were my teacher!! Throughly enjoyed it!!!
I especially like that it doesn't turn all dissonant like some so called improv's. It does though however seem to touch on some of the more modern chords toward the 5:45 mark. I liked it. Excellent job, even 7 years later. I would suggest listening to the Max Reger Fantasy on Ein Feste Burg at Passau Cathedral Organ.
so good!!!

Sounds like the organ got a good workout as little or nothing was left out. Probably knocked the dust out of it.
