It happened because I was pointing out that Prejean was misstating facts, not expressing an opinion, when she said that Americans can choose same-sex marriage. A lot of Americans can't. I was making an analogy to a person applying for a History teacher position who didn't know the basics of WWII and defended her ignorance by saying "Hey, that's my opinion, and I have a right to it!" Actually, it started before 1939, so that really wasn't a "FACT". The invasion of Poland and declaration of war by Great Britain happened in 1939, not the start of the Nazi campaign through Europe. But yes, she was correct to stand by her opinion.

It's a common western misconception that WWII started in 1939, when in fact the world was already at war before then - it was only at that point that Britain actually declared war. Don't forget that Chamberlain tried to negotiate with Hitler first to stop him invading *more* countries, before Churchill declared it.

Actually, it started before 1939, so that really wasn't a "FACT". The invasion of Poland and declaration of war by Great Britain happened in 1939, not the start of the Nazi campaign through Europe. But yes, she was correct to stand by her opinion.

Not sure where my reply went but in it I pointed out the Nazis had already attacked Czechoslovakia, and annexed Austria before 1939. Japan, too, had already invaded China before 1939. It's a common western misconception that WWII started in 1939, when in fact the world was already at war before then - it was only at that point that Britain actually declared war. Don't forget that Chamberlain tried to negotiate with Hitler first to stop him invading *more* countries, before Churchill declared it.

September 13, 1931 - Japan invaded Manchuria. This is generally known to be the first major aggressive move by one of the WWII axis powers.
And in any case, assuming Sept of 39 is a bit odd for somebody from the US, isn't it? For you, the war didn't start until 1941 when your country became involved. For Britain, it was September 1st 1939. For countries like China and Manchuria, it was long before that. You can "assume lol" whatever you want to, naturally, but history shows otherwise.

Now, her grammar sucks, but normally, when you say "choose same-sex marriage," you mean "actually do it and have it count in a court of law in terms of inheritance and whatnot", and if that's what she meant, then she's wrong. In many parts of this land, gays can't "choose same-sex marriage".

In a lot of places, the American people *do* decide to allow equal union rights. (I don't say "marriage rights" because marriage is a spiritual concept, not a governmental one). Do you agree with the Republicans who want a Federal Gay Union Ban or something like that?

Hey dummy, this is America. The Constitution says we have inalienable rights, and the majority *doesn't* have the right to take rights away from the minority. That's the whole point of the Bill of Rights -- if one person wants to stand on a street corner and preach, or say that 9/11 was a conspiracy of Jews and the FBI, the rest of the country DOESN'T have the right to take away that one person's free speech. First of all, "scientists" didn't think any of those things, stupid. The scientific method didn't even begin to be developed until the 1600's, and its notable early appearances figure prominently in cases where the people who were actually thinking like scientists got it right, like Kepler or Galileo.
Also, owning the Constitution isn't enough. You have to be able to READ and UNDERSTAND it.
