@jadetiger88888 There are several tunes for Tantum Ergo. In Austria, it is even sung to the melody of the old Austrian Imperial anthem, the same tune of which is used for the German national anthem. The words fit perfectly.
@jadetiger88888 Do a You Tube search for: Egräbnis Erzherzog Carl Ludwigs von Österreich #3 This is a funeral Mass for a member of the former royal family of Austria, and in this video, they are singing the Tantum Ergo to the tune of "Gott Erhalte Franz den Kaiser", also used in "Deutschland Lied" or "Deutschland Uber Alles". The music was written by Haydn.
@lichtbroeder hi thanks for the info. yes i watched the video of the austrian funeral. interesting! is there one sung to the melody of Germany's national anthem? nice that they sing praises to our Lord using their anthems! by the way your name means brother of light?
@jadetiger88888 Hello! Yes, that's the meaning of my screen name. The old, Imperial Austrian national anthem and the German national anthem share the same tune. The Tantum Ergo that you hear in the Austrian funeral video is the old, Imperial anthem. It was sung at this funeral, as it was for a member of the Habsburg family.
@jadetiger88888 May I suggest a CD that you might like? It's called Catholic Latin Classics, by the cathedral Singers. One of the nicest CDs traditional hymns that I've ever heard. The choir and chamber orchestra are excellent. It has two versions of Tantum Ergo on it, including one by an anonymous Austrian composer from around the year 1800, my favorite version. tried to find it on You Tube but couldn't.
