I actually find some aspects of this work to be absolutely hilarious (the timpanist absolutely manhandling a paper bag? priceless. XD). It's not the Ligeti I've really come to like, but it's still great, great music. Thanks for posting this!
This is the first time I've seen this clip with the score. There are some interesting deviations here - it sounds like they used both the German and English texts, plus a third language (Polish?) for the more intelligible sections (as well as those parts which are to be "in the vernacular").
It also looks like the orchestra couldn't do the rather tricky vocal "Chu Chu Chi Chi" sections in the middle - the percussionists cover all of those passages in this performance. Still - gutsy performance!
This is an arrangement of three arias for coloratura soprano from the opera. There is also an arrangement of these arias for solo trumpet and chamber orchestra.
I'm a professional musician. I've played this piece (with the singer's part played on solo trumpet) and I've got to say in my opinion it's one of the best pieces of contemporary music I've ever played. I think I've got a fair bit of experience playing things like this for my age as well.
I never really get the chance to see Ligeti's works performed live - much less those written for full orchestra - so I appreciate it when users such as you post these videos. Thanks a bunch!
And you do realize, of course, that there are some people who think the Lord of The Rings movies are complete rubbish when compared to the original books?
And there ARE people who enjoy watching videos of people going to the bathroom. You're probably one of them.
To simply off on a 4 line rant about various disgusting objects you plan on eating/licking is simply immature.
And thanks for noticing that I'm gay. At least you've got that right.
And yet if it's so obvious, why did Legti win the Berlin Prize, Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition, Wolf Prize, Kyoto Award, etc for his musical compositions?
Apparently, it's not quite as obvious as you think
And in addition, I'd say you're the one being the "fucker" considering that you're coming in here to post comments bashing somebody's selected style of music for no reason other than spite.
I bet you actually did read my "rants" ... you just can't think of how to counter them.
While it's true that this music is very chaotic and unatural to listen to... there are some people out there (myself included) who enjoy listening to the chaos, and enjoy listening to the odd devices employed. The people listening to this actually like it, for one reason or another. I personally happen to like listening to odd music. I also love standard classical as well though. I'd never compare this to the works of Bach... but it's brilliant in it's own right.
wow!

Diarhea sauce with cat poo pizza...
Is that REALLY the best you could come up with?
I'm not suprised you cannot appreciate this music, as your immaturity is very apparent through your comments.
Of course, it's very easy to just not bother reading my "absurd excuses", but until you read them, you really have NO BASIS in ANY of your arguments.

If you had continued reading past "while it's true", then you would have seen that I didn't make any arguments about everything being relative.
But of course, you simply chose not read on, because you have no more intellect than the bowl of dog shit that you suggest we all eat.
Just because YOU are too dense to appreciate this music's emotional value doesn't mean that somebody else can't.
I never claimed that this music was pleasing to the classical ear. Its not. And thats how I like it
