I've been using reason for 5+ years now and this is such a timely release. i've been recording so much guitar lately in Audacity and chopping it up and importing into reason, which is annoying and this is perfect. can't wait.
@warchild: well in fact it's a lot easier than rewire from what i've read. if you have reason installed, and you open up record, you automatically have the full reason rack available, instead of having to rewire. so it all stays in one program.
OK...on the VST debate here, in concept, with live audio now flowing through rewire, it would be possible to route in audio from another program, through effects then back out...to achieve "VST Reason Effects" Or vice versa to achieve "VST Effects" back into Reason? It's a but clumsy, but my kickass quad core would very likely handle it in at least a few instances, besides how many instances would you really need anyway. You could make a sort of "Rewire Reason VST Rack" even...hmm.
Because they want to keep it CPU efficient. VST limits the performance of the software due to plugins etc. They want to keep it a fast program to use - therefore no VST. But it fully integrates with Reason and ReWire (= ALL decent software on the market), so everyone will survive.
I dont think so. In fact, the CPU-useage is no longer a problem since CoreDuo-Processors. I for myself have Projects with over 20 VST-Plugins and have absolutley no Problem with CPU-load.
And I think the missing integration is an absolut KO-criteria for many professional studio musicans. For example you can integrate Reason completly in Cubase. And then you can add all your (expensive) VST-Plugins on it! Why shall I buy a new DAW, when i cannot use all my recently bought stuff?
Here here. All those different VST's run havoc on the computer. All those codes doing their own thing. Give me a fully integrated app any day. Reasons latency is amazing compared to anything else out there. Abletons Lives latencey is the worst of them all.
@chompy410: well in fact reason hasnt got any latency at all becos u cant record anything with it. if u mean cpu usage, then yeah, reason is very low on cpu usage, and ableton live isnt. but even then i never had any trouble with playing 30-40 tracks at a time in ableton (unless you're using Omnisphere in all your tracks, which is a 50GB vst, that reason simply cant beat) and i never felt like i needed so many tracks playing at the same time.
WRONG! Latency is not only caused by audio tracks. I am an EXTENSIVE user of ableton live Ive done entire sessions with no audio tracks at all, only midi and plugins and half way in to the session playing via a midi keyboard is unbearable regardless of audio buffer settings. I dont have CPU issues, my computer is very fast but it doesnt matter with live. Reason does introduce delay as the sessions grow. But the difference is I can run massive sessions and can still play my keyboard.
I've never ever experienced those problems playing a keyboard to be honest, and just like you I run quite a lot of a tracks. So I guess it's just a personal problem.
well how superior then? maybe i have 5ms latency with live, and 2 with reason? i dont care tbh :p just like i said i never experienced any problem at all with playing my midi keyboard, not even when i was running 40 tracks at a time. same goes for recording my guitar.
In my view it doesn't seem to offer anything new other than a mixer the size of a country. its an audio recorder.
if you are a reason user and want to record audio then i can see the appeal of keeping it 'in-house' but I dont think it will lure any new customers from their current systems. I'm probably wrong.
I never understood the praise heaped on propellerheads products. They're good but not awe inspiring.
I can agree it was a bit hyped, and will probably appeal mostly to reason users although as a Reason user who records guitar alot (going thru a pain in the ass procedure just to get the sample into reason) this is very appealing, and as a registred user i get a sweet discount, all and all, im happy!
BUT DOES IT HAVE VST?????? If so then it's prefect. If not NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
kbowk2 2 years ago
it doesn't and Propellerheads Products won't until they restructure the core of the program. use ReWire to hook it up to apps that use VSTs

The time stretching in this is effin amazing

does it work with Reason 3?
I'm acquiring the beta now and I am so excited.

yep
Gen0cideBeats 2 years ago
yep, and it wouldn't use much CPU because Reason, ans thus Rewire (same company) are very frugal when it comes to CPU
Gen0cideBeats 2 years ago
do you need the line 6 interface to be able to use the line 6 plug ins in the program? he is unclear, i would think you could use any interface
trauma15 2 years ago
no.. its a line 6 emulator

WOW !
but I think that if you buy record with reason, you need a new computer too !
your machine need to be wicked !
and i'm very curious about new racks and FX treatment in record !
philippe597 2 years ago
well yes and no....the terms not rewire...little diff now...they called the programs "intergratable"....so basically yeah
misterriddlez 2 years ago
The program detects if you have Reaon installed and if so adds all the FX and modules into Record from reason

I can see people asking, "why doesn't integrate the option to use VST's?"

It's not a DAW.
3rd party VSTs f*ck up stability. It's got nothing to do with cpu efficiency. Prop software is stable because everything is designed in-house.

Actually, he is correct, Lives latency issues suck. Reason is far superior when it comes to that, and hopefully Record will be the same with audio
And latency occurs with any input device.

however that time stretching is decent.

Reaper ftw..much cheaper and no bloody dongle
Guess 'Record' is good for existing reason users who want to stay in the propellerheadsubmarine
