The song "itokuri bushi" also called 'shiwaja bushi" is has to do with to the Japanese forcing of the Amami Oshima people to make cloth after the islands were stolen into satsuma domain from the Ryukyu Kingdom in 1624. Breaking one of the threads cold result in being severely punished/killed.

Chitose Hajime (born in 1979) is a Japanese singer song writer from the island Okinawa, Japan. Okinawa's traditional singing is unique like that (I remember they don't have F or G in melody? lots of "turns"). And Okinawa's traditional instrument is Sansen (you hear it in this song). She learned how to sing Shimauta(Okinawa's traditional singing) and how to play Sansen since she was little. When Deep Forest was in Japan, they liked Chitose's music they asked her to join this.
