I think Lucas has treated him poorly, Prowse is just as important as anyone else in the films. Where else was he going to find an actor 6ft 8 to wear the Vadar costume and not be seen or heard? Lucas has always seen himself apart from the Hollywood set, he isn't any different from anyone who came before him. Just another Hollywood egomaniac! It's a pity Lucas wasn't more annoyed about the final 3 films and the poor performance of Hayden Christensen than he is about David Prowse!
I think as an appreciation to his work, Lucas could have allowed in the final sequence of ROTJ Prowse to be the face of Vader instead of going ahead and casting yet another actor.
So okay Prowse wasn't good at acting, but i feel the effort could have been done to directing and coaching him to the point that he would have been able to go through those last few minutes, again as an homage to the man's work in the series.
A question for West Country natives and maybe anyone else knowledgeable about this:
Was the West Country accent the blueprint for what became the "American accent" over here? Its quite rhotic and I can definitely see how it could have morphed into some unique accents you hear on the east coast now and then (endangered as they are).

@Konform2zoidberg - Agreed. We just ran a small scale con in the U.K. & Dave was our guest of honour. What a nice guy: friendly, modest, down-to-Earth, fascinating to talk to & he really cares about the fans & has a genuine interest in people. I have a *lot* of respect for Mr Prowse.
Well he is the main Vader guy- he came to the Special School- Vernon House London just b4 I worked there and met the kids! I met him at a comic convention around 1993 and he signed a Vader Star Wars figure for free! I asked him if he lifted the Rebel commander by himself in ANH? He said they used wires! His signature is very common! He used to be the Green Cross Code Man back in the 70s!

Hm... He didn't seem to be too upset about it which is great, but Lucas has a habit of replacing people's work in his films with other peoples'. Sebastian Shaw was totally replaced in Return of the Jedi.
Imagine Shaw's family trying show his grandchildren Shaw's performance in Star Wars: "And here he is near the end... wait...... wait.... WTF!"
The family can still show the performance of Sebastian Shaw because the unmasking has not been replaced only the spirit of Hayden Christiansen. The dramatic meat of his performance is still intact!
Very nice interview. I actually met Dave Proswe at a convention in Dallas, TX, about 3 years ago. He seemed to be very quiet and focused at the time, but he was glad to sign an 8x10 of Vader from "Empire", and pose for a fan shot as well. If I ever meet him again, I'd like to do a short audio interview.
I met him last year at a convention, he's such a great guy :)
