You asked what I thought of the actual performance--I listen to her because I enjoy her expressive playing. Heifetz has the fastest recording of this--its beautiful and FAST--but it says nothing except, fast. (at least not to me) Ossy Renardy's recording is my favorite as it was recorded after he returned from WW II and he expresses his disgust, his prayer and his hope, and victory--a message to the world. Ms. Chung has done a beautiful job with self expression and appropriate energy
It should have plenty of fire yet be mitigated with the ability to turn tender in literally an instant. The proper energy would be to pounce instantly on the note rather than to languish over it (check out Menuhin--he languishs just a bit to much and sounds too laid back, as does Kreisler) When you go through and carefully listen to all the masters play this you realize this is a very, very difficult concerto to get all the nuances right.
