He's not refering to physical grinding as in working for money. He's talking about mental grinding, always looking for something, always moving away from the self.

I stopped my grinding and I lost my job, my home, my insurance, and my health. What found out is that I wished I had not stopped grinding. There is a balance. Stop grinding and live in poverty. Grind 24/7 and loose your mind. Don't stop grinding. At the end of work and effort is death. I've been rich and I've had poverty. Being rich is better.
