@nzoz1977 you should chuck the rolling stones in as influnces in your comments-start a trend:) Birdman did stones covers in their live show, for that matter so the MC5, and they definitely were an influence on every 60s garage band especially the likes of 13th floor elevators. Younger at one stage in the 90s had a fun stones cover band called Nanker Phelge (wiki it). don't mind me -just having a stones week on my ipod
Sheer Energy Man I recently Downloaded Radio Birdman Album i-tunes best of I love It great Stuff From Australia seriously Last Words The saints and Radio birdman and the Boys next door. How is the Punk Scene in Australia now adays?
You might want to look into the Melbourne underground scene. They seem to be sticking to their guns... just avoid the boy-band punks like Short Stack and you'll be fine... look into the Melbourne scene first.
@Wehategod Just saw Rob Younger perform with the New Christs in Lismore (N. NSW) sat. night and they still went hard. Celibate Rifles also played + other local punk bands. The scene is still happening and everyone had a great night.
seen birdman a few times in oz in the 70s and they did the loudest gig i've ever heard half the crowd went outside it was awesome, those guitarists had our fillings falling out, glasses and bottles rattling and falling of tables people throwing up from the volume, these were the greatest days of rock n roll
PIP (Phillip Hoyle ) Keyboards.... was my family Doc for a few years when I lived in Taree NSW. last I heard he was the Boss or Med director at Taree base Hospital, very nice man.
Wow has bought back many memories, saw the band many times.I live in Geelong and saw them 3 times in 77 @ the Eureka Hotel what a band and still are. I have on video somewhere Rob Younger on Sounds talking about the upcoming New Race tour and taking the piss outta Donnie Sutherland very funny, must find and upload it. thanks for the memories, maccnor
MY GOSH! This band was so freakin' KICK ASS! Damn, almost makes The Clash look pale by comparasion. Very unfortunate these guys didn't get their due here in the States and that The Saints are better known when it comes to Aussie punk rock, not that The Saints don't kick ass too!
That show was a bit of a bummer for me cause of some weird dude who kept trying to dance with me. Chased me to the back by the bar. D.C. the year before was better.
Bloody brilliant! saw these guys in Brisbane yrs ago, Rob Younger-the singer, put my name on the door! i would say that this cover is just as good, if not better, as the original Stooges version, and i'm a huge Stooges fan!
NZOZ, not New Race the song; New Race the Band. You've got so much other great stuff, is there any chance you have Nov 22nd 1963 or any other New Race stuff form that '81 tour? Probably wishful thinking. I don't even know if any part of the tour was filmed. Anyone else know?
Oh yes, that New Race! I completely forgot about New Race, the band. I think I saw the mentioned song already up on YouTube... it might have been footage of Birdman doing the song. Sadly, I do not have any New Race material.
New Race video does exists, I have some on a Betamax tape, I think its camcorder shot, I seem to remember seeing more footage in other collectors lists as well twenty years ago, no doubt something will turn up on Youtube in time.

You are right. November 22nd 1963 is awesome and anyone into Birdman who hasn't heard it really should seek it out. However, its not a Birdman song, it was written by Ron Ashton after the demise of the Stooges when he was with Destroy All Monsters. The Birdman connection comes from the New Race live version from the '81 tour (New Race made up of Tek, Younger, Gilbert (Birdman), Ashton (Stooges) and Williams (MC5).
