Yes he does. In the Extended version of the Return of the King, Wormtongue stabs him (then Legolas kills Wormtongue) and then Saruman falls on a spiked pinwheel, killing him and dropping the palantir.

In the book he doesn't die. Gandalf breaks his staff and at the same time breaks his mind. Grima [Wormtongue] then becomes "leader". After a while they start the scourging of the shire. etc etc etc

yeah in the extended version, gandalf, legolas, gimli, pip, merry, aragorn, eomer theoden go see saruman in his tower, but wormtongue kills saruman and lego shoots an arrow to kill wormtongue.
