  • I thought architecture was an expression? I guess if you dont write like this you're not a "true architect" huh?

  • 2 page essay, double spaced, 34 1/2 hours

  • i actually remember this from high school (Architecture class), i sucked at math so i switched over to "Construction science" we watched pirated movies, ordered breakfast from a nearby deli, slept, played cards, we had a test every 2 months and everyone passed the class. oh yeah and our teacher tried to convert us into evangelical Christians. better luck next time teach! good times!

  • and this is useful because..... ?

  • Pretty cool, but it's way easier to make it into a digital font. You only have to draw the alphabet once, then you can scan it into a program like Scanahand and turn it into a font that's compatible with all programmes that enables writing. I can SO recommend it if you aren't already using it :D

  • this trick got me laid

  • Who wants to write like an architect ???? Crazy people ........

  • I was listening to architects before this...

  • your d looks like a b LMAO

  • Nobody uses those lettering guides. The very few people who don't do everything on CAD use a simple Rapid Design R-925 template. I took drafting in the mid 80s and these design guides weren't taught then. They take too long to use. I guess that we write too well to be doctors, so we become engineers.

  • 𝕎𝕣𝕚𝕥𝕖 𝕃𝕚k𝕖 𝕒𝕟 𝔸𝕣𝕔h𝕚𝕥𝕖𝕔𝕥?

    win

  • well i got here by watching a matrix architect parody with george carlin ... and you????

  • @howtoarchitect

Nice video, but why write like this, instead of a "regular" writing? (pros/cons)

  • dude, you think im gonna take a ruler where ever i go??

  • Maybe just use a functional font?

  • Two minutes and thirty five seconds I should have spent cramming for midterms tomorrow. lol nice handwriting though ;)

  • @asalgado0188532 seems I'm not the only one :)

  • all draftsmen have different handwriting.

it's strange to teach your specific technique, rather then the methods behind the style of draft lettering.

  • What is the purpose of this? Style and legibility? Haha... what's next, "How to write like a doctor. This way, no one can see what the hell you're writing, not even yourself, AND you'll look like you have status!"

  • @jumbopoop girlfriends.

  • i know, three, architects, and, anyone them write this form, sorry man.

  • well i already wright like this crappy non-legibility handwrighting

  • why the fuck would i like to write like an architect?

idk but I'm pretty sure about that neither architects care of their write.... because maybe... just maybe they care about architecture....

.....and ofc shoelace of their neighbour's uncle because that is just as important as thier fuckin handwrite....

  • I have the same pen as you!

  • Why does the d look like a b in here?

  • hourly rate for this......???

  • Hey, just wanted to say that this video actually really helped me a lot. I am practicing to be a Landscape Architect and my lettering has always been a point I could work on, but this video really helped me improve

  • is the 4th letter a d???

  • Comment removed

  • I OCD orgasm'd when I saw the lines at 0:50

  • @Elmokorvo omg who the hell cares??

  • NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ok if i were to put this on any of my drafting projects i would get a F- 1/8 inch height and very simple

  • @endrekvam because u clicked on it

  • why? it seems quite unreadable with the C's,O's

  • meh..I'm a civil engineer you work for me, not the other way around

  • is this for real?

  • friends in my class tell me my handwriting looks like chinese or hirioglypsh >.<

  • I find them very difficult to read. I cant see why it is such a good idea to make them so wide.

  • I have a drafting degree and have been a steel detailer for 5 years. I am also currently an engineering student. I don't care much for architects. They have no clue how anything is really built and generally have almost no common sense. Maybe if they focus more on the actual content of their designs, and not the asthetics or letters so much, they would stop producing such a bunch of crap work.

  • @loody2387 You seem frustrated...

  • For police report writing, I find all caps to be slow enough to take control of info gathering and legible enough for others.

  • What is that tool, and where do I get one???? Thanks

  • ABCbEFG?

  • i write like this and i still go to primary school it makes no sense

  • I'm taking an imaging systems class and this is the most annoying aspect of the class.

  • this is very weird?

  • I'm engineer...

  • whats the name of the tool that you use at the begining with the parrellel rule?

  • just wait a few years when all you do is write in capitals and sign your name

  • i just want to know how to fold shirts tie shoes and shit, oh wait i already can.

  • Poor Handwriting xDD

  • Oh great im in the weird part of youtube

  • how did i get here from cute kittens?

  • Easy, Just use a stencil

  • i write like this at school

  • Thanks for taking the time to make all these videos, they're awesome !! would love to do a spanish version or captions.

  • Love it, but you go soooooooo fast.

  • Hi, i'm Dog Cat xD

  • Why did I click this?

  • Thank you, I'll practice this every morning before school

  • Sooooo Cool. I can really appreciate this.

  • A,B,C,b??????????b???

  • 1:59 is cute, win, fail!

  • no idea how i got here but im definitely coming back next time im high

  • Now i know how to write a terroristical letter =P

  • I like it.... you write so good

  • How the hell did i get here ?

  • 1:59 This is a quote I found from Tyrone Edwards Dictionary of Thoughts. I enjoy referring to it from time to time. It seemed appropriate for a YouTube video.

You could just about quote anything Doug Patt says.

  • Dude, you 'd' is backwards... xD

  • This seems so boring. There is not much creativity or freedom in this. It is all too mathematical and geometrical -__-

  • @royalsteven that is what architect is all about :D

  • I know, that is why I chose photography and graphic design :D

  • I dont know why im watching this

  • Really good at printing City Blueprint by hand.

  • WELL HELLO DOUG

  • I didn't know they were still making those awful Flair pens.

  • Great video! Thank you!!!

  • What the use if your writing is illegible? Architects are basically salesmen who can draw buildings.

  • im an architect but i dont write like that....shietttttttttt

  • why would i want to write like you?? maybe this is why architects have all the late nights.

  • @asdfkie So that everyone can read your writings? My friend who's an architect does all this very easily and quickly. I'm sure Doug does too, he's just writing it all formally and slower for us in this video.

  • thumbs up if your confused as shit

  • haha i came here coz i am doctor

  • Are you an architect?

  • My father was an architect, and he wrote like this. I always thought it was so stylish and unique. I copied it as a kid, and write like this today (I am not an architect). Good video.

  • What kind of ruler is it? With the dots in it.

  • did anyone else notice that he wrote a b instead of a d?

  • So..... I need a ruler to write? Goddamn. Simple things are made difficult now a days.... I remember back in my day, back when I was like 2months old...... Yeah I dont know.

  • I love these videos - I have always wanted to write like an architect and now I can!

  • too much work just to write something simple. i don't have the patience to write like an architect. i'd rather write like an asshole instead.

  • I demand a font download link

  • @dsaerno exist a font called "fluxarchitect"

  • @dsaerno Found something similar dafont(dot)com/flux.font

  • I shall teach justin bieber how to autpgraph.. Like an asshole

  • @kia1630 Wtf is wrong with you! This pertty much dosen't have to do with Justin Bieber

  • @kia1630 pretty sure he should be teaching you that

  • it's cool

    but hard to read

  • NOW I KNOW ARCHITECT WRITES WITH CAPS LIKE THIS <---------

  • Who writes with a ruler

  • ZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZz how usefull!!!

  • I love to see ordinary things made unique!! This is great! Thank You for sharing.

  • my favourite graffiti lesson ...

    joke =)

  • Ñ!

  • or u could write normally...

  • No wonder my dad writes like that :p

  • No offense but my teacher wold hate this type of handwriting and fail you for bad handwriting.

  • @JulkerReviews the only thing teachers should mean to do by any form of assessment would be to know how much knowledge you have gained, NOT how beautifully you can present it

  • @mahirharoon in the business world with architects and engineers, making sure everything is clear is essential. the same work often gets passed from architect to architect or engineer to engineer - so it is imperative to make sure that everything is clear. thats why so much emphasis is placed on how something looks.

  • @JulkerReviews

well your teacher must not be a drafting teacher then. Some of us have to learn how to write in this manner.

  • That small triangle is called a "set-square"

    P.S. Dont ask me why

  • small triangle? its a 30/60 set square douche...

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @NarutoLikesSherbit01 Why do you need to be so nasty about it?

  • @NarutoLikesSherbit01 but compared to the other triangles used in drafting, it is physically small

  • Comment removed

  • When I was a kid, I wanted to be an architect just because of those cool tools they use. lol.

Your handwriting looks like a stylized computer font.

  • omg i always wanted to be an architect and now ..

  • hi im a 1st year architect student.. i want to ask a question if you dont mind.. want item that you used to write a horizontal guidelines? it look like a circle.. before you used the small triangle.. thanks a lot..

  • @sheenaracelis ames lettering guide

  • ahhhhhhh- BORING

  • The d is the right way it's capital-D

  • the d is facing the wrong way

  • @012eveiris120 Hahahaha

  • THANK GOD FOR CAD!

  • I used this in my class, then I was sent to dentension.

  • @SonicFan8181 ahahahahahahahhaa :) to ghetto!

  • This is weird

  • did i have to use t square every i gonna write a letter?but i really like this writing..nice!

  • Hmmm no comment hehe^_^ (I Jst commented :D)

  • too bad if you had to use a straight edge everytime you write a straight line in a letter or word, you would never graduate college, on a side note if i ever need to write a ransom letter i know exactly how it should look now

  • nice to know that is all an architect needs to learn

  • I looove the pen!

  • why is this so relaxing...

  • @1000torsos I thought I was the only one

  • Oooh! Where can I get that font? 8D

I never thought to use the ruler for vertical lines so my printing is a bit cack. That's a great tip.

    Cheers!

  • What kind of ruler do you use ????? Can't find it on the internet -.-

  • I'm sorry, but that writing is very difficult to read.

  • I WRITE ALL CAPITALIZED AND ALMOST LIKE THIS...IM NOT KIDDING

  • How cool!

  • Beautiful Letters and Numbers , Love it.

  • why cant i write regularly?

  • .

    "Like a boss"

    .

  • Nice pen

  • tagging

  • Well presented, nice and clear and very informative. I loook forward to watching your other videos as and when i get time, thanks!

  • why did he say I'm Dickhead at the end?

  • @proudybaloch No he said he's Doug Patt

  • @proudybaloch he said Doug Patt btw

  • Next: how to make love like an accountant.

  • does anyone else see that his d is a b....or is that just me

  • @19pirate70 in architecture all the letters must be capitalized so, the letter d cant be confused. however, i do agree to the average eye it does look like a bee

  • @twinkywinky711 the "hat" on the D makes it look remarkably like a b. When i letter i use mechanical standards so my lettering is much less animated i don't really use architect styles. If you could explain the high hat on that D i would like to know cause know i'm curious

  • @19pirate70 lol i think youre over thinking it. thats just simply dougs style of writing. it is very unique. like i said, although it does look like a b, it cant be confused because the use of capital letters is a must in architecture. hope you get it!

  • @twinkywinky711 lolz this is true he's throwing flare at his lettering. I like the mechanical standards just personal preference i'll let the architect guys do they're thing. i don't even want to be an architect my lettering is just slightly above par and i'm trying to get better

  • Call me ignorant, but I just learned something new, because I had no idea architects had their own way of writing. I used to have a German language teacher who wrote rather similarly to this--makes me wonder if he had studied architecture. Anyway, cool stuff.

  • write*

  • I am 14 years old and I writle with the LEFT hand so this thing is a bit harder for me :D... but I will try more ...thx for showing this :)

  • What is the history for writing like this? Or how did it come to be? I always notice how good it looks and how similar the styles are, but i've never heard anyone talk about it before.

  • SEXY !

  • nice video. it is a bit sad that i went through architecture school and 6 years of work and this not once ever came up. this is extremely difficult to execute to this level. its not just the shapes of the letters but also their height to width ratio, size, spacing between letters and words, etc.

  • This vidoe should really be called how to print like an architect....Architects tend to "write" copy...especially for for proposals in a very dry, technical, wordy way...They would do well to employ print communication professionals who can write with a flair for selling to their clients...take it from me...(a Print communications writer)

  • i remember my first day in drafting. I was so confused when my teacher mentioned he'd teach us how to write. But writing this way is so much fun!

  • Giving the most information in the least time. Definitely write. How many people bull shit so much

  • Weird I am using a .5 mm lead pencil "doing my homework" and I naturally write like this haha

  • I like your font. I am not quite sure it feets your photos or your works though.

  • how long does it usually take to write an aticle that way?

  • i love your handwriting:)

  • Great.

Now make a tutorial on how to write like a doctor.

  • @daniel0731ex

Sadly, mine is much more akin to a doctor's. But I've got 2 classes left for my BS in arch. Sigh.

  • @daniel0731ex I'm sure if you wanted to write like a doctor you could just scribble some random curvy lines or something and it'll be perfect doctor writing ;)

  • @daniel0731ex u don need tutorial 4 that.. jus write like ur drunk :D doctors don write they scribble

  • @daniel0731ex hhaha.. gibberish handwritiing

  • @daniel0731ex That just comes naturallyXD

  • @daniel0731ex have a seizure while writing = write like a doctor

  • @daniel0731ex tie a pen to a chicken leg, then let it run wild.

  • @daniel0731ex Lots and lots of loops.

  • Beautiful lettering! I can remember in my college days as a graphic design student, part of our training included learning how to hand-render various typefaces. So I would imagine that graphic designers everywhere would also appreciate your vid as much as I do. Well done!

  • you are hardcore... i think a person can balance his life with his work and life
