It is what we do with what is dealt us in life that defines us as "Get er done" or "I can't do that" people.

  • What you are not thinking about is your days wage you lost it just would have been cheaper to pay some 1 to come in and fix it

  • @70short Not for what these bastards charge, I would have had to get a bank loan out just to pay for "THE MAN" to fix the problem, and then the interest on top of the loan, and then the monthly payments, wow, sounds like another bill to me...

  • hello,

so before the pipe broke your system stood at 200 psi?do you have a pump in the system?I have never seen a nonpump system stand at 200 psi you should be at 45 to 100 psi.......the only thing i can think of is when the system was built or at the last inspection the system was put under 200 psi and the pressure was never relieved, and left to stand at 200 psi for years, witch could result in the failure of the system.......200 psi is ment only to test the system.

  • @339svq

so if the system was over pressured and then froze up the pipe would be more likely to bust ,at say a victaulic or a valve..not the pipe itself the black steel pipe is rated at 300 psi.

by the way if you want all the air out of the system open the inspectors test valve this will let all the air out,and if you see leaks at the victaulics take a hammer and hit the thing and see if that stops the leak,And you did not have to but a gate valve back at the main drain any valve will work .

  • @339svq Thanks for all the valuable info.. Do you know anything about the main water valve that comes off the street, it's leaking around the turn on leaver. They tell me all I have to do is replace the packing,, but the water is running, is this a hard job???? They want 750.00 plus parts to do it, they say it only takes 30 minutes, I say fuck it,, I'll figure it out and do it myself.. Pete

  • @swrnc dear sir check your P.M.

I do hope this will help you.

  • @swrnc pete you can replace or add packing to that stem while water is running, packing is just woven material with teflon or wax. you have the valve stem, the stem gland nut for packing gland and the gland materia.. you should try and add some new material to the exisiting worn material tighten the gland nut and see what happens. youtube has vids up simlar to what ya need to do i am sure. packing gland replacment. i forget what you valve looked like to seewhat style you have.

  • @swrnc Pete,, Is that main water valve just a outside shut-off valve for your building? What I mean is there another valve out by the street in a lil manhole or something? I don't understand how that packing can be changed with incoming pressure against it. There has to be another shut-off somewhere, maybe even off of the property.....

  • @swrnc Pete, I couldn't find the video of you in the pit with the water shut off valve, but if it is a gate valve, which I would say it is, they have what is called a backseat built in the stem that comes up with the valve seat when opened all the way. You can open the valve all the way hard and it should stop the packing from leaking and let you take the packing nuts and packing ring loose so you can take out some old packing and put in new packing without too much trouble.

  • @339svq I'm no expert, but I was wondering the same thing myself...

  • We all live in the big world Pete, if i wasnt 5,000 miles away, id drop in and fix your sprinklers for yah..! hard working folks take it every time, and yeah, dont the 'fix-it' guys love to write thier sodding bills up....basturds
