The first number, 4xxx/5xxx/6xxx simply stands for the generation, 6 being the newest. For each generation, the cards are sorted in performance classes with the second number, for example x4xx/x6xx/x7xx. Finally each performance class is sometimes sorted in different sub-performance classes, like xx50 or xx70, which is basically the same card with tweaked clocks or whatevs. So basically, the higher the number, the better the card, although not comparable between generations
Usually the newer generation is a bit faster than the old with the same numbers, for example 5870 is faster than the 4870, however, 6870 is not faster than the 5870 for some reason. Generally the 6xxx-series are slower but more energy efficient.
As for your question, there are many different manufacturers which makes cards with the same numbers, and it doesn't really matter which one you go with, they might have different clocks or coolers which perform differently.
@vibyjocke Hey, do you think I could run Battlefield 3 on a Athlon II X3 triple-core and Radeon 6450? I know the minimum requirements ask for 2GB RAM, a dual-core at 2.7GHz and 3rd gen graphics card from ATI. Just asking to make sure.
My guess would be that it would run pretty bad, but of course, on low enough resolution and all settings on low it would be playable. Here is a guy on YT running it: /watch?v=bzayxLaLX2I and as you can see it's pretty laggy, and multiplayer would be even worse.
@YouDead11 Hey I have exactly the same configuration but the game is not running well even on min graphics, can you tell me your experience with GTA IV on that PC? I'm pissed off :(
@YouDead11 Yes you should. I have the same CPU, similar graphics card and same RAM amount and speed and I can play the game on max settings. Check my video.
hey guy can u tell me is this amd x4 620 processor reliable and long lasting. i mean i have been always an intel user. i have always used intel processors. never ever used any amd processor. so i wanna know hows is this cpu. is anyone from u have used this cpu for more than 5 years? . if anyone has used then plz reply cuz i wanna know how much durable this amd cpu is. i have read on various sites that some old amd processor easily caught fire on overload . is it true? plz help
I've used AMD processors my entire life :) I've also used Intel ones, and from what I can tell there's no difference in how long they last. Generally, the more expensive a processor is, the longer it will last (if you mean performance wise). If you think they break a lot, then no, none of my processors have ever broken. Old AMDs used to be hot, yes, but never really risked catching on fire from what I remember. Nowadays they are basically as cool as Intels are.
@vibyjocke thanks for replying dude. i have never used amd processors in my life . i have been using intel processors from last 11 years . i used intel p4 dual core and all that but never amd's sempron and stuff. i have heard ppl complain that amd's cpu catch fire sometimes when overload happens or when cpu is doing multitasking. and also plz tell me how long does amd processors last. btw i use my gadgets very gently and no mishandling is done by me . thanks i wanna ask abt amd athlon x4 620
The old athlons and semprons could get hot, and without a working cooler they could "catch on fire", as in starting to fizz and smoke. I don't think processors do that anymore, and from what I know, most motherboards simply turns everything off if something gets too hot. My processor is running @ 3.1GHz (up from 2.6) and never goes above 40 Celcius. An AMD today is probably just as safe to buy as an Intel.
@discobubbles I second what vibyjocke is saying. Older AMD hardware used to have no thermal overload, but that was ages ago; today all AMD and Intel hardware has good thermal overload, so the CPU just resets itself if you overclock too much using standard methods, or if the CPU fan breaks down the CPU will just clock down. Also, the parts inside modern CPU's are smaller (45nm and newer 32nm processes), meaning they run much cooler and overlock much better than ever before.
@JiggaJagga Before the advent of the Intel Core 2, AMD had the performance lead in most cases. Today's AMD Phenom II can compete with Core 2 and in some cases the latest Intel Core i3/i5/i7. AMD's are generally cheaper than Intel.
Few games use more than 3 or 4 cores, and most also benefit from a good GPU. Don't skimp on either, especially with GTA IV. Note: The cheaper Athlon II is the same as Phenom II but without L3 cache, but Phenom II x4 is better for you overall. Good, cheap hardware.
@discobubbles I have this CPU Overclocked at 3,4 GHz with the Cooler Master V6 GT cooler and the temperature even at 100% load is about 40C!
It's a good CPU, I believe it'll be good for high gaming for at least 1 - 1,5 more years, although it's almost 1,5 years old so far... But when you run more than 2 heavy applications together, it's getting slowing as hell...
@manoragas no its one of the worst for gaming, get an athlon II x2 240; or Phenom II 255 x2 then you might be able to unlock it to a quad even if you don't it has 6mb of l3 cache which will out perform the athlon II x2 640
What the fuck you are talking ? :DDDD Athlon || x2 240 can't unlock cores idiot, and phenom || x2 255 is not that good as athlon, and i don't wanted to risk loose my money. I have now athlon || x4 640 and it runs every fucking game maxed out, and with 5770 HD i've got 35-40 FPS in every game with 4xAA
@manoragas can you read you fuck tard? i said unlock the phenom. and yes the phonom II x2 is a lot better for games then the athlon propus x4, look at benchmarks you dumb shit. also you can overclock the phenom to 4 ghz or more and unlock the other cores probably.
@manoragas no you wont, the phenom is way better than a athlon propus, and i got the phenom x2 255 and unlocked to a x3. I promise i get better FPS then a athlon x4 640, especially when i overclock to 4.2 ghz.
@GAU94RAV i'm thinking of buying this cpu, i also have the same graphics card as you. i have a dual core and this game lags terribly at the settings i want to play it at. so far it looks good, you should be able to use it, just be sure to have a good fan to keep it cool
Sapphire HD 5450 1GB DDR3, would this run games smooth? i have exactly the same setup as you but not got a graphics card if it is shit plz tell me what a good budget card would be ;) thanks
@vibyjocke can my 64 mghz (homemade procesor i call it shit) and my homemade graphic card 16mhzclock,64 mhz,memory,32kb run ..i think it can run gta 4 on max because i got a dog in a computer case
@vibyjocke hey many ppl are saying that amd has discontinued amd athlon x4 620 and 630 also. can u tell me can i get these processors in market along with its 3 year warranty?
Damn, I have AthII X4 630 with HD4770. And they are happy in Linux. Damn, I think they can imagine their fate ending up running just games, like in your config. lol.
im thinking of upgrading soon, ive always been stuck with a intel core 2 duo 2.4ghz processor. ima get this processor ^_^ looks awesome for the price, plus i never played a game on a quad core before, so i hope it runs smoother
@vibyjocke 5670 performs about the same as 4770 i have a 5670 and my friend a 4770 and our systems are about the same and perform the same only 5670 has dx11 support
I think all low-medium budget cards struggles some maxed out, but at least HD 5770/4890 is necessary. Mostly GTA IV is to blame for the performance-issues.
I might be getting this processor and MAYBE a HD 5770 1gb card. (glad you mentioned it.) I now have a 9500gt 512mb GDDR2..and dual core 1.8ghz. I can play medium on most games. Will there be a huge fps/performance boost if I upgrade the processor? Still saving up for the card.
Just wanting to play EVERY GAME at least maxed out 1280 resolutions. Do I need Windows 7? I heard I don't need to upgrade my ram (2GB) if I'm still using Windows XP. Any suggestions or anything else I need?
It's hard to tell exactly how much of a boost you'll get. GTA IV will probably run a bit better seeing how it prefers quad-cores over dual ones, but overall the 9500gt much limits the performance.
You'll need Windows 7 if you want to play games in DX10/11.
If you have a relatively clean system (in XP about 200mb ram usage from startup), you'll be alright with 2gb. Although if you want to play maxed out it could cause some sluggish game play in some modern games.
@vibyjocke okay. i have decided and i want you to see if its alright. 4gb, windows 7. Getting this processor too but is it good? wanting to get the hd 5770 but someone else sugested i should get gtx460. what do you think?
It's running at 3,0GHz. 4770 gives about 15-30% better performance than the 5670 (fps-wise), depending on the game. On the other hand it's cheaper, runs cooler, more efficiently and has DX11-support.
@silenceyouidiot its not terrible im getting 5770, 5450 isnt a terrible card, but i just dont want it, im not getting a card that is worse than a card you call terrible lol...
@StinkyChad 5450 is a terrible card, it matches the performance of a 4550, dx11 wise the card couldn't play anything on high or medium at a decent resolution. If you are getting a better gpu then either wait or get a card that's worth it.
Calling a 4670 a worse off card is plain stupid, a 4670 is a mid range card for a low price, it matches the 5650 is performance.
@silenceyouidiot ok kid your telling me you ACTUALLY tested if it cant run at a good resolution? cuz my friend has it and it runs 1920x1080, on every game, anyways im getting a different card, idk what the hell you are talking about the max resolution for the goddamn card is 2560x1600 read a book
Okay, you're right, the 5450 is the Ultimate gaming card ever created, although every single card including integrated have a max resolution of 2560x1600, the fact that this card can run games on low at 1920x1080 is great. Obviously instead of playing games on med-high, you are an eloquent person with low quality taste.
Happy now? Have fun wasting your own money, at least I hope you can afford 50$
@vibyjocke Yea, I forgot to mention that I ment for gaming, anyway, I chose the athlon one. got another question for you tho, is it possible too OC with the stock cooling without getting to high temps? My new cas has 3x 120mm fans running + the default once, with my current cpu which is a shitty 1st generation athlon x2 is running at about 35C when I'm raiding in wow.
did u OC ur gpu? Awesome rig I have the same as you and run. All games great max. Do you think its worth getting crysis with the 4770 and 620? Or I wait till iget a better system?
Nope, no GPU overclock. Since Crysis can be found for less than $9.99 in the bargain bins, I don't think there's any point in waiting if you want it. Crysis 2 will be out in the future so maybe that suits your future system better anyways.
@vibyjocke I'm at walmart :) and I decided to get it! I'll get the crysis maximum edition :) it includes crysis,warhead,and crysis wars :) and for 39.99 I can't go wrong :)
@vibyjocke thanks i did it but if i play game on max settings ( it's 10 fps now ) and run GTA next time the game closes and there's a message " fatal error" how can I fix it?? because i can play it on max when i max it later when I play
Hy! Dragouna!!! my country is hungary. Have you ever been there? sorry, my question is next: Athlon2 x4 620 How much this influences it if not have L3 cache? and how many is the FPS?
Sorry my very-very bad einglish, but i'm learning this language:D :D thanx!! and good by:D
GTA IV recommends only 498 MB? Mine recommends 1100! And I have 8GB RAM with this COU and 4850 1GB! I don't know how s my average of fps at GTA IV because I have downloaded a pirate and lags unbelievable! It's the game's fault that lags! Not my PC's! I'm thinking of buying this game because all the pirate suck! Before 1 year there were many pirate GTA IV to download! Now they 're less than the half left!
A friend had that problem; I found that turning off the windows event log service (I think) in windows solved the problem. The problem was that everytime you pressed a key on the keyboard it started lagging or something.
@vibyjocke Mine lags when I press the horn or I turn on / off the lights or pulling up at the screen the mobile phone or whatever move I make by the time I'm driving! By the way, my favourite cars are Super GT and Turismo and my favourite station ElectroChoc! What are your favourites?
Is the AMD Athlon II X4 @ 2.60GHz with the Radeon HD4770 a good combo for gaming? Im just looking for something that looks better and runs better than consoles.
Pretty much anything now-a-days will look better than the console versions. The PS3 uses an old GeForce 7800GT, and the Xbox 360 uses an also-old Radeon HD 2000 series GPU. On consoles, in multi-platform games, what you're really getting is all settings comparable to that of a PC at low settings.
The Radeon HD 4770 is older now; get the Radeon HD 5750, which is about $20 more, has more features, and is faster. The Athlon II X4 is fine AS LONG AS you over-clock it.
I also found another deal on NovaTech which is currently being sold for £349 without a GPU, HDD or OS. But it does come with what looks like some good stuff.
> AMD Quad Core Phenom II X4 965 @ 3.40GHz
> 2 x 2Gb PC-10666 Memory @ 1333MHz
> ATX Black Gaming Tower Case
> 750w ATX Power Supply
> AMD 770 and SB710 Chipset Motherboard
The Mobo supports AM3 Sockets and up to 16GB RAM. I guess this would be a better investment?
ATX isn't a Brand, it's a form factor (Cases powersupplys and mobos) If the PSU and Mobo is ATX then it will fit in an ATX case..
If the PSU has no actual brand then don't touch it with a barge pole.. If it's a cheap one then you risk killing it along with everything inside your case.
Oh, and you could build your own PC for less than that price :D
Oh. What if I bought a different PSU for it? I want to try and get a Quad Core at 3.00GHz minimum (Standard) with a Mobo that supports AM3 sockets (preferable, but not fussed), 4Gb RAM (DDR2 or DDR3), 450W PSU, Radeon 4770 GPU for a cheap as possible using reliable parts. (like you said, "named brands")
my specs:nVidia 9800GT 1GB DDR3 256-BIT,AMD phenom 9850 black edition,4GB DDR2,XILENCE 500W,icenhancer 1.3.5 for GTA IV,about 30FPS

do you think this processor with 6 gb of ddr3 ram with a geforce 9800 1gb will run this game maxed out
NuggetBlubber 1 year ago
@NuggetBlubber
Hard to say, but I don't really think so. Not with smooth framerates anyway. The problem is mainly the GF9800.
vibyjocke 1 year ago
@vibyjocke what about duel hd 5570's 1gb, AMD athlon 635 quad core, 4 gb ddr3 on max settings? Or maybe high settings.
3DOarmy 1 year ago
@3DOarmy
Dual HD 5570's in crossfire doesn't even match one 5750 (which performs about the same as 4770) in most cases.
vibyjocke 1 year ago
@vibyjocke 5670 performs about the same as 4770 i have a 5670 and my friend a 4770 and our systems are about the same and perform the same only 5670 has dx11 support
basbas63 1 year ago
@NuggetBlubber well what would you recomend then
NuggetBlubber 1 year ago
@NuggetBlubber
I think all low-medium budget cards struggles some maxed out, but at least HD 5770/4890 is necessary. Mostly GTA IV is to blame for the performance-issues.
vibyjocke 1 year ago
@vibyjocke
Any suggestions or anything else I need?
andoi9292 1 year ago
@andoi9292
Although if you want to play maxed out it could cause some sluggish game play in some modern games.
vibyjocke 1 year ago
@vibyjocke okay. i have decided and i want you to see if its alright. 4gb, windows 7. Getting this processor too but is it good? wanting to get the hd 5770 but someone else sugested i should get gtx460. what do you think?
andoi9292 1 year ago
whats better anthlon x4 2.9ghz or phenomon x4 2.8 ghz
NuggetBlubber 1 year ago
@NuggetBlubber
Easily the Phenom.
vibyjocke 1 year ago
@vibyjocke What speed if your Anthlon? And is your 4770 1gb or 512mb?
Oh and one more thing. Is a ◦ATI Radeon™ HD 5670 DirectX® 11 512mb as good are better or slightly worse or rubbish compared to a 512mb 4770?
mouldymat 1 year ago
@mouldymat
It's running at 3,0GHz. 4770 gives about 15-30% better performance than the 5670 (fps-wise), depending on the game. On the other hand it's cheaper, runs cooler, more efficiently and has DX11-support.

StinkyChad 1 year ago
@StinkyChad D:
Ugh, 5450 is a terrible card. If you want a moderate gaming card then go for the 4670 for under 70$. It can't do dx11, but dx10.1 isn't bad.
silenceyouidiot 1 year ago
@silenceyouidiot its not terrible im getting 5770, 5450 isnt a terrible card, but i just dont want it, im not getting a card that is worse than a card you call terrible lol...
StinkyChad 1 year ago
@StinkyChad 5450 is a terrible card, it matches the performance of a 4550, dx11 wise the card couldn't play anything on high or medium at a decent resolution. If you are getting a better gpu then either wait or get a card that's worth it.
Calling a 4670 a worse off card is plain stupid, a 4670 is a mid range card for a low price, it matches the 5650 is performance.
silenceyouidiot 1 year ago
@silenceyouidiot ok kid your telling me you ACTUALLY tested if it cant run at a good resolution? cuz my friend has it and it runs 1920x1080, on every game, anyways im getting a different card, idk what the hell you are talking about the max resolution for the goddamn card is 2560x1600 read a book
StinkyChad 1 year ago
@StinkyChad Kid huh?

Cobrakay2003 1 year ago

I think it'll work fine OC:ing it a little, but the best way is just to try it yourself and see what temps you get.

did u OC ur gpu? Awesome rig I have the same as you and run. All games great max. Do you think its worth getting crysis with the 4770 and 620? Or I wait till iget a better system?
Edsan91 1 year ago
@Edsan91
Nope, no GPU overclock. Since Crysis can be found for less than $9.99 in the bargain bins, I don't think there's any point in waiting if you want it. Crysis 2 will be out in the future so maybe that suits your future system better anyways.

Sorry my very-very bad einglish, but i'm learning this language:D :D thanx!! and good by:D
nagytommy67 2 years ago
Not having the L3 cache effects the FPS by 5 frames at max . But you can easily get those back by a mild overclock.
(Up the graphics / ress ingame and it matches the Phenom II's)

GTA IV recommends only 498 MB? Mine recommends 1100! And I have 8GB RAM with this COU and 4850 1GB! I don't know how s my average of fps at GTA IV because I have downloaded a pirate and lags unbelievable! It's the game's fault that lags! Not my PC's! I'm thinking of buying this game because all the pirate suck! Before 1 year there were many pirate GTA IV to download! Now they 're less than the half left!
mitsostsagka 2 years ago

Thanks
IP1NKYI 2 years ago
@IP1NKYI Yep thats what im going for..
robertkrosl 2 years ago
@IP1NKYI
Atheismrulez 2 years ago
What would be a reasonable Over-Clock speed?
I also found another deal on NovaTech which is currently being sold for £349 without a GPU, HDD or OS. But it does come with what looks like some good stuff.
> AMD Quad Core Phenom II X4 965 @ 3.40GHz
> 2 x 2Gb PC-10666 Memory @ 1333MHz
> ATX Black Gaming Tower Case
> 750w ATX Power Supply
> AMD 770 and SB710 Chipset Motherboard
The Mobo supports AM3 Sockets and up to 16GB RAM. I guess this would be a better investment?
IP1NKYI 2 years ago
@IP1NKYI
Over-clocking the Athlon II X4 620 3.4GHz is fine. Anything over that and you'll need to increase the V core too much.
About the deal: what brand and model is the RAM, case, power supply, and motherboard?
Atheismrulez 2 years ago
The Case and Power Supply are ATX.
The motherboard is AMD
The RAM I think is just Generic.
The Specs and Brand names are in my pevious comment, or you can go to Novatech and check the full spec list.
Go onto the Novatech website. (use Google) and place this at the end of the address. But change (.)
specpage (.) html?BB-9654G

It might sound quite cheap but it doesnt come with...
Graphics Card

Optical Drive
Operating System
IP1NKYI 2 years ago
ATX isn't a Brand, it's a form factor (Cases powersupplys and mobos) If the PSU and Mobo is ATX then it will fit in an ATX case..
If the PSU has no actual brand then don't touch it with a barge pole.. If it's a cheap one then you risk killing it along with everything inside your case.
Oh, and you could build your own PC for less than that price :D
Dragouna 2 years ago
@Dragouna
