  • One thing people might misinterpret is that when you punch you do NOT immediately pull back. At least not until the power has been driven through. This can actually cause more injury to you than whoever/whatever you're hitting.

  • if you actually want to learn to box properly watch hajime no ippo its helpfull

  • You should always never closed your fist...err...never tense up your hand until impact. And make sure you hit with a 90 degree angle so you dont get boxers fracture

  • i gotta fight someone bigger and older than me when school reopens

  • The top comments are from like 9 months ago..... awwk

  • very informative video. I don't know the proper way of throwing a jab but now I understand clearly.

  • how many times he said jab :))

  • The other guy, wearing those punching pads, must me thinking, "Shut up and throw the jabs dude.."

  • damm this guy has a lot of vids posted up1

  • This has got to be the worst video on jab technique I have ever seen. Look at his pussy jabs...absolutely no power or range at all. ExpertVillage USELESS!

  • When i was 8yrs old i joined boxing. i stopped doing boxing when i got to the 7th grade. In the middle of 7th grade year these group of black kids came to bully me. it was my first time getting bullied. One of them threw a punch at my face but it was a hook punch, so i didn't hurt me much. I put my hands up and put my back near a wall so they dont punch me behind. 1 short black kid charged at me and i through a straight jab to his face. he fell to the ground. The next kid tried to kick me.

  • @BLUEICE542 But luckly i was in Karate when i was in 1st grade so i did a knee block and threw a power punch in the kids face. the police came and tackled me down. luckly i was near a camera so i did not get in trouble because i was using self defence. I recommend to join boxing for self defence. I taught those kids a lesson. Those kids got locked up and i never saw them again. BTW for the people who bully, watch out for the people u fight. They might know boxxing or martial arts.

  • trust me he knows a good punch when he see one....he gets hit more then anything listen to him stutter hahaha pure brain damage

  • is this correct because i've read other how to jab and they dont say to turn your thumb to the ground.

  • the guy in red looks like...... wtf is he talking about

  • My left hand feels weak when I throw a jab, and out of control... while my right jab is steady and fast... and has power in it... Could someone tell me a way to ''train'' my left jab because I can't do it like with my right... thanks

  • @wanttobehacker Just practice it more :)

  • also he jumps when he jabs....like a bunny hahah dont do that i wont go good with a good transition to the right hand

  • hahaha wow im 17 and i coach better than he does at the gym i go too

  • Idk why so many people say you gotta move your hips when youre not suppose to.

  • i thought ur sppose to move ur hips a bit and swing the jab without using alot of energy or muscle. and is it better moving ur hips and jabbing or just normal just swing ur arm out into a jab and cover. is it harder swing ur hips or just arm?

  • thanks! i'm learning. hitting everlast heavy bag - teddy atlas - helps me aim. sure could use a coach though! this helps thanks!

  • Too much power in your jabs they feel almost like straights jab is supposed to confuse your opponet and not get you tired while your doing it very nice demonstration on how to jab all good but too much power behind your jab attacks less power more tehnic confuse ur enemy and go in with hard punch :)

  • im sure you could beat an old lady,. but your not good enough to teach...

  • Great info bro about the purpose of snapping the jab.

  • nice im gonna punch the bully

  • @gerharddj200 you need a bit more then just a jab to take down a bully, learn sum MMA and more Boxing before you do any fighting, but if you want go ahead go feral on his ass

  • i like how it ended lol

  • Ok all the points he said would help your jab because of twisting your first are false.

Your shoulder blocks your head the same whether you twist or not.

It does not increase power at all. If anything it hurts power.

Also if you twist your hand on the jab, you increase your chances of bending your wrist....

  • @User2308117

    Wow you're wrong...

  • @kotorfan8039 Not even going to explain why?

I'm convinced! You're right! I'm wrong because you say I am and for no other reason!

Boy, I sure was foolish thinking I knew anything about boxing when the likes of kotorfan8039 thinks otherwise. Rest assured though, I know my place now >.>

  • @User2308117

Dunno what place you're talking about, simply your take on punching is wrong. Ever see a boxer fight without twisting his wrist? Ever see one bend it? Lol.

  • @kotorfan8039 Oh, I mean my place as lower than the all knowing kotorfan8039 who is a boxing prodigy. He doesn't even have to give me reasons to let me know I'm wrong. He just says so and it is true! First question : I have never seen a boxer twist their wrist mid-jab as this man does. The only punch I'm aware of that utilizes twisting is the corkscrew punch.

Second : No, because nobody is stupid enough to twist their wrist like that lol.

You still aren't telling me how im wrong. LOL.

  • @User2308117

Hmm actually you are right, I thought you were one of this martial arts types who propose the fist should stay vertical the entire punch. There's no wrist twisting in a jab far as I'm aware but the entire arm rotates creating that effect, didn't notice this guy was flicking just his wrist in the end for whatever reason.

  • @User2308117 You don't need anybody to teach you how to jab, spend an hour throwing a jab at a practice target and I promise you will eventually throw it properly. The twist of the arm happens by itself because it feels the most natural when you stand in the correct stance and throw your punch. You saying you have never seen a boxer twist their wrist mid jab seems right but there is indeed a twist of the wrist from what i would consider to be near the end of the jab.

  • @ruleram1 I believe everybody is getting their body parts wrong. You twist your arm slightly when you jab. Not your fucking wrist though. Of course you twist your arm slightly because you're going from your guard to a punch. Arm =/= Wrist. And even then, this man twists his arm way to much anyway so that the back of his hand is facing almost completely to his right. He is clearly over twisting. The only punch i've seen twist that much besides corkscrew is an overhand right.

  • @User2308117 I agree that he overtwists but that is to be expected from a DEMONSTRATION video. Also I think it is fair to say that twist of the arm and twist of the wrist can be used interchangeably because you can't twist your wrist, it is anatomically impossible. Just assume that twist of the wrist means twist of the arm and don't be such a detail nazi; everybody knows what is being talked about, no need to be a know-it-all.

  • @ruleram1 Your mom.

  • @User2308117 lol

  • You always take a step to jab,,, how else do you get inside range?

  • you don't have to snap.....terrible mistake

  • @indianDreamCatcher1 bruce lee always said to snap back

  • JACK DEMPSEY IN THE BACKGROUND

  • @andi111 That's Muhammad Ali....

  • noone believes me they tell me ima break my hand turning ur jab over to snapp it im like i know what im talken about u dont so fuck u haha

  • the twisting is unnecessary and the it does not increase the power... lol

  • @ayman1006 You are correct that it does not increase the power, the snaping action does but the twist protects the forearm and wrist on impact and reduces the chance of injury

  • see i tryed explaining this to my dumb ass friends who said man if u turn ur hand like that ur gonna break ur wrist i said no u dont u land a better punch by snapping ur punch to land with more power and ur arms are protecting ur jaw they were like u exten out and straight u dont turn like that im just like ok mr and ms know it all u dont know shit

  • DUDE YUHR LIKE AWESOME CAN YU MAKE A VIDEO OF CHEST BOXXING

  • Hm, pretty good.

But you forgot to mention that you should keep your hand open just before making contact with your opponent. If you keep your fists clenched tight while trying to throw a Jab, it slows down your hands. Keep your hands open, and just before you hit, clench them up ionto a tight fist, almost as if you're trying to catch something. This allows the Jab to not only have a good snap, but it could also carry some damage and be a little faster then a clentched Jab

  • i will

    jk

  • he has power ,that's sure.

  • wear our ba--YOURYOURYOURYOURYOUR your gloves lol

  • You say "The Jab" is the only punch that you dont step with its just straight from your stance? 99.9% of boxers step in with the jab, its basics man, step into range while throwing the jab..doh! if u step into range and stop to throw your jab you will get hit 7 times. standing flat footed while throwing the jab aint the done thing, so kids please dont do this, step in and snap with the jab get in and out of range dont just stand there. 37 people know boxing..365people gona get hit 7 times :(

  • @SugarRayP4P wouldnt that just b a jab and steping in.

  • @kazyBarbarian yea if u listen to what he says.."The JAB is the only punch where u dont step with your feet or use your body"...that is complete bullshit, u will find the jab is THE ONLY punch where u step with your feet unless your checking a hook coz u wud need to pivot. Go and watch 100 fights from any pro's-ali,sweet pea, mayweather any1 it dont matter an u watch how they jab, they all step. Its fundamentally correct within the sport/science.

  • @kazyBarbarian actually just found a great example for you man, watch mayweather v marquez both world class fighters, just even watch first minute of the first round and watch how they both jab. peace

  • @SugarRayP4P they had the right cross on a video and said to turn during the hit. is that right?

  • @111444domenic yea man thats right way to do it, ive not seen the vid your on about but thats what u do turn your hips/outside foot and your wrist over on the shot. Some trainers will tell u its like reaching out and turning the key in the door. All your power is coming from your legs through your hips and right to the end of your fist (which should by that point be on the guys jaw!) peace.

  • @SugarRayP4P thanks.

  • @SugarRayP4P

you r right to throw a jab you need to step in cuz ,when you step in it basically multiply your damage on your competetor but I've seen some boxers throwingg jab in a rather curving way from a distance which is very affective

  • @SugarRayP4P i gess he means jab then step back then go in agin and he said its a combo move so yeah u might do a combo while your at it so i hope this helps u out

  • @SugarRayP4P '7' is a pretty specific number...

  • @SugarRayP4P jabbing is usually used to defend by stopping opponent from stepping in, or to measure distance between you and your opponent so you can throw appropriate punches. If you have seen any professional boxing matches, you never see an idiot who throws full-swing punches all the time because you will just get countered or your motion becomes to big and that would leave you defend-less. Step-in jab almost count as straight and only used when boxers are rushing.... So yeah.

  • @SeekMeSilence Your jab is used for many things, and most importantly to set your opponent up and keep him off balance. If your jab lands then all other punches will land, it's an exact science.Hence the reason they call the sport of boxing "The sweet science" PS a Jab is called a straight when (let's say your orthodox stance) your opponent shifts to your right and instead of using your right, you come across your own body with your left which some old school boxers will call the jab a straight.

  • When you're throwing your jab I see your hand is coming back slower than how fast you threw it out there, and your hand is dropping a bit.

  • @corkshow he said never do that!!!!!!guess he doesn't make any sense.

  • Although you dont need to have a lot of body weight or big arms to throw a jab hard you still gotta have muscles....doesnt matter if they are big but they have to be fit and tight

  • dude u can tell that guy has a strong hit

  • this guys is a pro for 4 years wtf........he looks like ascrony weaklin....iv seen balay dancers with better arms...

  • @deenman23 are you gay? checkin out his arms? boxing has nothing to do with how big your arms are...ive seen 5'6" guys that are 120 throw harder punches than guys 160lbs and bench 250

  • @CaseOfThaBirdFlu lol gay:))) thats funny...and even if i was guy whats the prob??u a homofob or somewthing???did ur daddy rape u in the ass when u were little or something???anyways...what u say can be considered valid...but it all depends on HOW u make those muscles....if u have for ex bruce lee muscles not protine muscles u will hit much much harder than this little dude

  • eres pofesional? xk si inclinas tu cabeza de esa forma es muy predecible que tiraras un jab :(

  • If you lean forward like that when you jab your not going to be able to move when they counter... Your weight is going to be on your front foot.

  • @Meckley23 Your weight is supposed to be on your front foot thats how you get power in your jab.

  • @skaterboyjer The main source of your power is your hips and core. If your weight isn't properly distributed when your throwing a punch at me I'm going to notice right away and take advantage.

  • @Meckley23 Exactly It your hips and Core and back and shoulders its everything but Your weights on your front foot so when you twist your hips and back you turn your back foot to.

  • You always wanna wear you bag yer yer yer

  • You always wanna wear your bag...

  • i started cracking up when he studdered at 1:51

  • @pedrolevy3 powerful my ass , he's pussys smoke . thats he's full power , i bet he farted when he hited mitt lol

  • I think he should fight manny pacquiao.

  • after a few dozen jabs, my shoulder starts to ache, any suggestions on how to get better?

  • @Bluerocka145

  • Listen boys and girls, the guy in the red shirt trained pacman. Also, Floyd was scared to fight the guy in the red shirt. Don't fucking lol. The shit is true. I wish I could upload the video of him training pacman. I forgot to mention after he trained pacman he lost the first fight to Erik Morales. Well anyway - he is a good trainer.

  • No a jab is with the lead hand!

  • The guy in red shirt is "Why did I agree to do this shit..."

  • @boapu lol

  • Do you jab with your dominate hand or your rear hand?

  • @GoodIVApollo

If you are right handed then your stance is left leg forward and you jabing with your forward hand (left).

Rear hand punch called cross .

  • @GoodIVApollo jab is always with your rear hand

  • @gabildiopotente thats a straight, a jab is with the lead hand.

  • @gabildiopotente youre kiddin right?

  • i cant see

  • all thse damn words are in the fucking way i need a video w/o all those words!!!!!!!

  • 1:50 and laugh please. yo yo you you your gloves

  • @Michaudbox hahaha tooo funny

  • @Michaudbox HAHAHA!!!

  • Ck out fast fist a new sparring tool that punches you back great video

  • if you twist and protect your face with your shoulder, it will protect you. but it is very also very easy to see. there is too much motion before the punch comes when you are fighting an experienced boxer. it needs to be quick like a whip. from point A to point B with a swift drawback time.

  • i dont think theyre friends

  • thanks for the video v helpful

  • THANKS FOR the tips. can you please give me some tips to counter a one two punch??? i hope you don't mind.. or better yet show me. post it.

  • Thank you sir your video was actually extremely helpful

  • @vladi128 .. yea o.k tough guy..

  • How do you throw a good jab?

    Practice. Practice.Practice.

    Pushups. Bag. Shadow. Sparring.

Keep your guard up, protect your chin, keep your action smooth and your elbows in , jab, jab, make it snap, light jab, follow through more, heavy jab, counter jab as your stepping back, duck weave, jab, jab, jab.

    jab=offence

    jab=defence

    jab is a great weapon.

  • look at that red shirt guys , LOL what a face

  • @frlfurious2 What about him?

  • hi man nice video iam new to boxing ...i just wanna say thank for the help

  • Footwork baby, throw straight and turn your hand, step in, breath, all in the feet, bip bip, then break it up, use it to set up all your work, everthing happens of a solid jab,

  • Never knew the whole twisting cork screw thing. I just thought you just extended your arm.

  • Pro 21? I'm 21 and been pro for four years and accomplished amatuer boxer....check out my vid "rocky de express"

What if ur opponent moves or is a runner? Ur gonna tell him to stop so u can jab him? You need to use your foot work body momentum to punch, hit hurt!

  • Jab is not a punch to stop an out boxer, or any other type of a boxer, so I don't understand your point here.

Jab needs to be fast (that's why Flyz is right about his lack of speed on the way back) to measuer the distance, counter/knock out of focus for a second, so I also don't understand why would you reccomend adding body movement to it, that would slow it down. A little of a step in would be good, but one needs a fast step back to use it in a fight... or good defense.

  • @e334r your an idiot. this is boxing fool

  • He has a very solid jab. He got speed too on the way in. However he is too slow on the way back.

  • you cant box

  • u guys suck!! u always step when u throw a jab,it adds power,speed...your body makes punches hit harder....

  • @e334r

So is that why you went pro at the age of 21, read the description, i think he knows what hes talking about

  • very good tutorials dude thanx

  • Lol the guy in red t shirt looks like he has no idea wat he is on bout :L

  • @y0mrelm0 no. hes mexican :)

  • @y0mrelm0 Guy in the red doesnt no what day it is :L:L

  • @y0mrelm0

Jose's not sure he signed up for that, so he's confused

  • so what do you do when someone tries to sweep your leg?

  • rofl :D:D

  • knee his face

  • lol. leg sweeps don't work like that, buddy.

  • then its not boxing

  • What a clown

  • holllllllllllllllly shit thats a powerful jab

  • Comment removed

  • why?

  • 1sr rule= always keep 1 hand over your balls.

  • LOL

  • @TheRealtalk617 bitch shut up

  • @TheRealtalk617 uber old post is uber old but in box you cant punch under the belt.

  • @TheRealtalk617 if mike tyson was in that room , that cunts would not want to teach anymore

  • @TheRealtalk617 ahahaha so funny.

  • LOL

  • @TheRealtalk617 Definitely cover em up after he said "High Jab, Medium Jab, and a LOW JAB."

  • So am I fail that when I work my heavybag, I only use handwrap with no gloves? haha

  • Well,it's not enforced, but if you go at a heavybag with full force over a period of time with just wraps, your bound to injure your wrist or knuckles.

I found out the hard way...

  • same here

  • you need to have gloves.

Hand wraps aren't recommended because you might injure your wrists and your knuckles etc.

I'd wear gloves and hand wraps =)

  • hey wolfish! don't take this the wrong way but i suggest you go try karate or tae kwon do before making comments about it.. i think it's clear you don't know what you are talking about. have you ever boxed or practiced any martial art anyway?

  • karate is one of da most unrealistic forms of defence a person can learn along with takwando n akido

  • "always wear your bag" i loled. boxing and STD lessons all rolled in one ;;

  • ha lol

  • if ur right handed u thorw the punch wif ur left or right?

  • throw it with your weak hand.

    so left hand for you

  • left

  • jab wth left

  • no start with your left always keep ur good hand to the back for more speed and harder impact

  • if your right handed jab is left couse when your boxing you throw fast jab so it will make the opponent lose it guard then you throw your right if your right handed witch is your strong punch to knocking the opponent when he lost his guard.

  • If you are right handed you jab with your left.

  • I'm sorry that it isn't Karate, but just cause Karate beats boxing in Walker Texas Ranger doesn't mean it beats it in real life.

  • Isn't this way of jabbing kinda risky? If you miss and your opponent hits your arm from above he could break it.
