  • i didnt know afghan music also uses sitar, tabla, and raga stile.

is that a local speciality near indian border?....

because the afghan music of today that ive heard sounds much more like iranian music, or western pop.

is sitar still in use in afghan music today?

    how long is this tradition?

    enjoying the music,.....

    greetings to all afghan friends!!!!

  • Thanks for the post great taste.

  • Amazing to see how little knowledge people have and are making blunt comments. 1st Ustad Sarahang is and was the father of Afghan music and if I can remind you he is a clasical singer. Ahamd Wali who is my favorite singer is a ghazal singer and ghazal is a form of clasic based on Ragas just not as indephed. It's like comparing Jagjit Singh with Fateh Ali or Bhimsen Joshi and that is why Ahmad Wali himself would never take or give him self the titel of Ustat. He is unique & uncomp in his own way.

  • @anawa083 Again it seems you are not stating fact. It is all fiction, or your personal opinion: your favorite singer. Why should Ahmad wali be so stupid to call himself an Ustaad, while he has got people like you. He's got his work cut out for him. He is 70+ years old & is still singing the same songs of his teenage years. He has not grown musically with his chronological aging. If you cannot digest and understand this, then you should consider studying music before you express any opinion.

  • @sarmalimable I wasn't attacking anyone the one attacking is you. You saying you have learned from all these Ustaads but one thing you still have to learn is manners and respect for other musicians. I know for fact how much work AW has put in into his work till today. Also I don't need to study music to like music which I have from AW and Pandit Shankar Ghosh. Again I know you have no respect for your own culture so please no need for you to respond.

  • @anawa083 When you say, "I know for a fact how much work AW has put into his music till today" can you back that up as to under which Ustad has he studied and for how long, and where? You again pass judgement blindly about me as you did about AW. What makes you think I do not respect my culture. I have been striving for excellence in all fields of my culture, and respect those who have done the same. Just having God-given good voice, shiny long hair, designer suit and glasses do not cut it.

  • What is this song called?

  • Can someone please post the lyrics of this bandish?

  • he is one of best afghan singer. After Usatd shirf ghazal

  • hindi bandish

    bisyar khob

  • Ahmad Wali the master of voice, sur, lai.

  • Ustaad or no ustaad, A. W. sings ghazals with such emotion that made me like ghazal. It is because of him that most of us listen to ghazal. He is the one who has not let ustaad Sarhang songs be forgotten by singing them in a more modern fashion with an absolutely stunning voice that not only the elders perfer to listen to but also our generation.

  • in the univers of music every singer is impress with some one ustaad sarahang used sung lot of ragas from ustaad ashiq ali khan and lot of other classicle ustaads so thats not metter. we just listenining how well he used a sung. but also ahmad wali is very nice in ghazal very very nice . if some one knows ghazal. and ustaad sarahang was music sun. no one compere to him and i also like ustad nusrat fateh ali khan he was greatest

  • this raag mala is from Indian film Amrao jan e ada by Ustad Gualm Mustafa khan originally. he this singer Ahmad Wali even spoil the lyrics.

  • hmm nothing special in his classical singing. but he is a very well singer in ghazal music. thx for sharing

  • People camparing the singers are like camparing 2 different flowers. Each has it a different aroma. Please just enjoy all this great masters has offered.

  • The best! Ahmad Wali jan's mahfilee songs are so incredible. I guess if he ever make CDs from his mahfilee songs, he would not even need to record any songs professionally. I have listened to some of his songs (a friend has them and does not want to share with anyone; that were recorded in private parties. They were just amazing; blew my mind off. He has sung with so musch sooz that made me feel drunk w/o any drinks.

  • I agree with you Walinaa jan. I personally love his majelisee songs since he performs them with great emotions and "sooz."

  • great voice, great tabla, great raga.

  • Ahmad Wali; You are the best! God bless your heart.

  • Wali Jan Keep up! Your Vioce is like gold!

    Khoda Hafez

    ABDULLAH GHAFURSEI BANWAL

  • Remember he is Afghan and he can't be seriously expected to pronounce this very archaic form of Hindi that classical bandishes are written in, not even all Indians pronounce them well. Take Bhimsen Joshi for example, he is one of the great classical singers but his pronounciation stinks.

  • zrahin jan, nothing against you. It is fanny to read comments such as yours on our legend ghazal artist. It is really sad to show off how much you know on "hindi classical bandish" by trying to put a legend down. He is the one who alway goes for perfection and never compromise. It is really sad. I hope you don't get me wrong. Thank you.

  • I agree with you Mansoor Jan, he is just showing off his knowledge of Classical Raga Music.

I wanna punch this guy in the face

  • Comment removed

  • He is simply presenting the asthai of several khiyal bandishes, minus the elaborations to which they would be subjected in a full classical setting. The raags of the 5 bandishes presented are Shuddh Sarang, Bhimpalasi , Hamsadhwani, Malkauns and Bhairavi in that order.

  • Good observation Zrahin!!! lol But most of the Afghans can not feel his this problem of pronunciation. Aimal

  • May be something is wrong with your ears. Please check them.

    Ahmad wali's voice is unbeatable.

  • zrahin sargams or taans arent for everyone, I've seen ahmad wali sargam alot during his practice all day. He would blow your mind with how good he is with it. BUT thats not his school, Ustad Sarahang advised Ahmad Wali to be a soft voicalist. THE WHOLE POINT HERE IS TO LISTEN TO HIS SUR VOICE! BY ALL MEANS HE IS VERY TUNED AND ON LAI

  • Comment removed

  • wow really!!!!!!! iv never herd that! i havent herd ahmad wali do sargam even when he was performing in concerts and in mehfils.

  • And you thing you know how. Even if you think you are right and he only has memorized few classical bandishes as you say. You must have ears to realize that he sings way better than the orignial singers from U. Sarahang to any other classic singers. He has brought life into all the old classics and niether you nor anyone else can ignore that! Peace!

  • Mansoor1952, for you to say that he can sing these bandishes better than the original singers and naming Ustad Sarahang proves my point. To mention this guy's name in the same sentence as Ustad Sarahang is blasphemy. He may be a good artist, but he is a least five life times away from reaching Ustad Sarahang's stature. Ustad Sarahang was a miracle in the field of ICM, and had been granted two doctorate degrees in music from Sangeet Academy in Calcutta.

  • With all due respect to ustaad, A. Wali jan really has given all the old songs a new breath and new life that sounds more pleasant than the original songs. A. Wali jan has thousands of his own songs and does not really need to sing old songs. B/c of his respect for U. Sarhang and other ustaads, he tsings their songs in order to keep their memories alife. Let's appreciate him for that. Thanks.

  • Your completetly right.

Ustad Sarahang was a Ustad of Ustadas thats nothing easy achievable

  • @zrahin, I appreciate your more mature and factual view on Ustad Saraahang and Ahmad Wali. Only thing Ahmad Wali got going for him is "voice", and looks, not skill and knowledge comparable to his now old age. Ustad Sarahang at his age had mastered many ragas, Bedel's Ghazals, and had trained many students. By that standard, Ahmad Wali is still a student.

  • @sarmalim and who are you?

  • @anawa083 Not sure if you want to know about my lineage or musical credential, I assume the latter. I have studied Rubab under Ustaad Mohammad Umar, Sitar under Pandit Srinivas, Indian Classical Ragas under late Ustaad Ali Akbar Khan from 1993 up to his death last year. Instead of blurring emotional blunders, and attacking me, you should have been questioning and proving wrong what I had written. You belong to the group of Afghans who blindly go with the flow without actual knowledge.

  • @Mansoor1952, You r just blindly mesmerized by A. Wali. Read the comments above by qqhussan. Your idol has a good voice, not skill. Copying is different than being trained and have music knowledge. If u ever run into A. Wali ask him if he can define the word "Ghazal" and what are the characteristics of Ghazal. I'm sure he will fail both queshnz. Voice z a God given musical instrment, your knwlege and skill makes you a skilled or a poor player. Most listeners don't have the skill to differentiate

  • @sarmalim, You are not only blind but also deaf and undoubtedly jealous. comments coming from idiots like you or qqhussian makes me love. you have the courage to comment about the King and even comment on how much he does not know about ghazal. For your information, I have been following A.W's music closely since he first started singing; I am quite aware of his knowledge of music. Without him, I'd say goodbye to Afghan music! No one can be A.W and no one can sing ghazal the way he does. Peace!

  • @Mansoor1952, Hiding behind the cover of anonymity, and insult a person who you hardly know, speaks volumes about your upbringing. Based on my KNOWLEDGE of the king, and Ahmad Wali I have only stated the fact about them. Since they are public figures, they are subject to public scrutiny, You & I are not. Even if I were, you have to base it on some fact, not your raw emotion and blind love for someone's' voice that I also like. Tell me one "FACT" about his KNOWLEDGE of music, please. U knw none

  • @sarmalim, ustaas Sarhaang may have had good knowlege of ghazal but had no voice. It is AW's voice that has brought life to u.Sarhaang's ghazals. Even a deaf person would recognize this.

  • @Mansoor1952, Human voice (throat) is a musical instrument by itself. Like any musical instrmnt, some sound good & some not as pleasant. Ultimately, it boils down to how one plays that instrument. The one born with a fine instrument is not as praise-worthy as the one who is skilled and acquired training at playing the less refined instrument very well. I don't think we understand & appreciate each others' views, nevertheless, it is nice to knw that you admire A.W, rather than loud keyboarder.

  • Ustad Sarahang's voice was trained for Khyal singing, and it was a brilliant instrument for that style. He also sang light songs with great verve and skill and emotion.

  • It was a beautiful voice.

Ahmad Wali's voice is beautiful by conventional standards. It has a nice tone and he has good sur. People who like conventional voices prefer Ahmad Wali, that is why they even prefer Ustad Sarahang's compositions in AW's voice even though Ahmad Wali's renditions don't attain even a hair's breadth of the artistry that Ustad Sarahang brought to bare every on any tune.

  • Ahmad Wali is an excellent amateur//semi-professional pop singer whose style reflects his interest in ghazal and soft melodies and who enjoys great popularity but who perhaps didn't push himself to attain the mastery that he's undoubted natural gifts and mellifluous voice deserved. He remained an amateur/semi-pro all his life.

  • Ustad Sarahang was a Mountain of Music, in every sense of the word. A master of so many varied forms from Afghan folk songs, to Hindustani art music and their auxiliary forms, he could sing and compose in all. He could have sang the telephone book if he wanted to. There is simply no comparison. It is unfair to place Ahmad Wali on a pedestal next to the Ustad as hes bound to fall from such a height. Lets enjoy his music for what it is, and it is pleasant to listen to. No need for comparisons.

  • Ahmad Wali has tens of songs composed by himself and if he sings songs from U. Taranasaz b/c he is a singer, not a composer.

when he sings anyone else's song, he does it way better than the origial singer whether it is an Indian song or an Afghani one. If U. Sarhang, U. nainawaz, and all the other great ustaads believed that A. Wali was the best, who are we to try to criticize his music?

  • i agree with you

  • You put it very well SamsAfghani jan.

  • Name one song that Ahmad Wali composed if you can and don't forget he got his fame from Ustad Taranasaz songs all afghans knows that. Ustad Taranasaz wasn't just a singer he was a very famous composer and real Mojahid Who loved Afghanistan and all Afghans. May Allah be with him (RIP).

  • marmarjan22,to name a few of the songs sung and composed by A. W. jan, I'd mention the famous song of "Atash," "ya Ali," "ma roye tu gule mo ye tu," Ze bade ma na ghazal..." There are actually many of marvellous songs that he composed himsef. As I mentioned before he has many songs composed by famous compositors like U. Zaland, U. Nainawaz,& U. Taranasaz.

  • marmarjan22, God bless U. Taransaz. Most people even don't know U. Taranasaz's name but they know him as A. Wali's composer. So, you tell me whome got fame from whome. A composer would never make a singer famous unless the singer owns talent and quality of voice. A. Taranasaz loved A. Wali jan, so who are we to try to belittle one in order to make the other one look better? Peace!

  • SamsAfghani, God bless you too you are the first afghan who mad a comment about our beloved Ustad that he is on longer with us you can say whatever you want to say but all Afghans knows him very well the whole Afghanistan know his hard work his great songs that made the singers famous if any afghan singers including Ahmad Wali jan read you comment about Taranaaz they will be bevy sad. so be careful what you saying and have respect.

  • hahahah read your comments and think twice about what you writing. More then 32 afghan singer sung Taranasaz songs and got their fame

i think you are coming from Tora Bora mountains.

  • This is a reply for SamsAfghani

  • @SamsAfghani He is one best our singer today,But after Ustad shirf ghazal.Dont ignor his bollywood song copy few yrs ago.He is talent is very limited. But we are pourd of him.
