  • If the rails are carbon, what are the 'spreaders' being welded to?

  • how long dose each trip take? and how many trips a day can it do it?

  • WOW I REALLY DONT GET IT.

  • You are the best. Thank you very much for everything you have posted, specially THE SPACE ELEVATOR. Thank you once again. The Idea given by Aurthur C. Clerk in 1950s. That great person live in my country, Sri Lanka since 1956. We should dedicate your great videos to him too.

  • The Transfer stations are a interesting idea in that they would allow multiple groups to be going up and down at the same time, but they would add a lot of weight to the system, something that may or may not be able to be overcame (even nanotubes barely meet the specs). Also for carrying large cargo the transfer stations would require cargo movers as well to move the cargo to the transport stations.

  • but there's no weight in space so it would be wieghtless right?

  • Umm, no. Weightlessness comes from gravity matching centrifugal force. You know how when your spinning something around it wants to fly out from the center, merry-go-round etc. Well when you are in orbit your centrifugal force outward matches gravity inward. Thats all. The space elevator is set so that the center of the elevator has zero "gravity", while the top is pulling away from earth the bottom is falling to earth and everything matches out. Its a giant tug of war with nano rope.

  • The anchor isn't lifted up into space and then lowered down. All that is launched into space is enough elevator material to pull up the rest of the elevator. Also, the base of the elevator gets fixed to a floating platform; moving the platform induces a wave in the ribbon, allowing it to miss other satellites.
