Slash is exceptional among modern guitarist for having an eccentric style, but with much feeling. Les Paul told him in person..."You play pretty good, when you try." That pretty much sums it up.
If he was more of a schooled player and really knew his music theory, he might be able to hang with the jazz fusion crowd, but he's more about the feel and melody, which I guess works okay for other styles of music. He does have solid tone, I'll give him that.
Slash on style... "Well, I know nothing about notes, chords, scales or theories. I cant tell you the names of the strings, nor can I play anything that doesnt involve a wah pedal". Slash on popularity...." Let's see, I grew this curly, grungy hair, and I put on a top hat, I wear sunglasses and never look up." Yeah, I'm a real guitar god." Thanks Slash, your an inspiration to all guitar hero players everywhere on xbox.
definitely my favorite rock guitarist! it's funny to hear him say he cant play jazz. I dig slash but, IMO, the pinnacle of musicianship lies among jazz musicians. I'm learning jazz but some things just come naturally to certain people. Wes Montgomery (best jazz guitarist EVER) probably couldnt rip some of slash's stuff on appetite. Go with what God put in ya and let it rip!!
ok, here is a little fact that u cant deny! Guitar players like Slash, Hetfield, and all others u underestimate dont have flashlight solos, 123 notes per second and other stuff, but they write BETTER music then Satriani, Steve Vai, Malmsteen, Batio, Paul Gilbert etc who r so called "virtuosoes". Slash uses focuses on songwriting, thing that REALY MATTERS in music. U have to admit that no one likes Instrumental music as much as REAL music. Those instrumental guitarists are just showing off...
@ouija93 and Slash has kick ass, beautifull solos that Satriani, Vai, Gilbert and other "tallented" guitarists cant make... for example November rain and Estranged!
all those players he described (Clapton, Perry, Page, Walsh) come from the style in which he plays himself. So when people compare him to Satriani, Vai, or Malmsteen it's kind of ridiculous because those guys come from a different style. It's like comparing a fruit to a vegetable
@qwertyuiop46853 i used to think guys like that didn't really have the feel needed to play blues. like they were almost too technical to play that style which isn't necessarily difficult, but requires a real personal kind of improv and style that sets you apart from others. but after hearing malmsteen burn the fretboard down while stayimg pretty tight to the blues scales, my whole opinion on players like that has changed. paul gilbert also comes to mind. a real feel for blues, but more evolved.
@1skullduggery There is a huge misconception about players with good technique, people seem to think there is no feeling behind their music. Paul Gilbert is a very favorite musician of mine, his latest album Fuzz Universe is truly a masterpiece.
@Deltarogers I like your comparison between a fruit with a vegetable its so true.Lol! You cannot compare the type of guitar player Slash is to someone like Satriani or Malmsteen they are worlds apart. Slash isn't a shredder like those guys but he surely does a great job in the realm that he works in that's what makes him a rock n roll icon.
@rafael080809 agreed. Slash is very good at writing riffs and catchy solo's and his timing for both is impeccable, and he plays from the heart. Being able to shred at light speed or pinch harminic every other note does not make you a good guitar player.....Jimmy Page once said that David Gilmour (from Pink Floyd) could do more with one note than most could with a 1000 notes,
@Val68505 Axl's the guy who would have been strongly influenced by the bands you mentioned. He used Freebird as a reference when writing/recording Sweet Child o' Mine. Slashes main influences were Jeff Beck, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Mick Taylor, Michael Schenker, Rory Gallagher, Fast Eddie, Brian Robertson, and the other names that he mentioned in this video. Not just his playing but his look, his attitude and the way he dresses, cut's his hair. In this respect Perry, Robbo and The Ramones.
@Mordor6121512 I'm generalizing about everything I said. Being 100% specific would take up a lot more space and I don't know everything that there is to know about Slash's personal taste. I said the Joe Perry influence had more to do with his image, his attitude, the way he dresses and cuts his hair, but it's a hell of a lot more than that. Brad Whitford was definitely a big influence on his playing and Aerosmith was probably Guns N' Roses biggest influence as a whole.
@gabrielmoko Agile guitars on Rondo Music are the Cheapest version of a real Les Paul they range from 199 dollars to 500 dollars...they also have more types of guitar for a dirt cheap price...but they sound AMAZING! I have two of them and i would go and buy a thousand if i could...again search Rondo Music on goggle and youl find the site..hope this helped!
@RobDZeppelin Intonation is about the tune of higher frets after 12th fret. If you tune a string to "E", you expect the 12th fret to be "E" also, right? Sometimes it's not :) It's about neck angle, string gauge etc. You have to set it with saddles in Fender type guitars, dont know how it's done in gibson kinda bridges.
I wonder what style slash plays to. I look everywher, but the dvds only tell the already made playing, not the style or what scale he uses. Either way slash is the best guitarist of all time and his playing is unique since it really touches people inside.

I think you got two types of vibrato in rock
1. The Slash/Hammett rapid, small and tight "the bee"
2. The Zakk style wide wailing screaming harmonic over the top "the 80's scream"

@PIlotrcm 3. The David Gilmour slow, emotional vibrato, similar to that of a classical guitarist.
