Finally! Learned the notes... okay... I can play the song... but GOD... he's mastered the art of winding his fingers in the oddest positions. XD He's found his little way of playing and the only way to replicate it is by playing his way. Which, by the way, is insanity if you didn't guess. Example, 3:21-3:25. That's the one lick that I just cannot get to sound like him. If that's not at least 20 years of experience right there, then I implore you to show me otherwise... >.<
This song means a special something to me. If you're a guitarist you can fully appreciate the mastery of Satch, If not by the speed at which he plays, but the feeling that he simply *pours* into these songs. Brilliant is really the only word I can use, it's outstanding (l)
so insanely perfect. 8 years of playing this song and I can barely hold a candle to that. He's not only mastered the guitar, but every nuance and detail associated with its effects.
this song reminds me of good memories. just one of thoes songs you can listen to no matter what time or where. its the song that will make you remember the good things and help overcome the bad
Thanx 4 this song.actually it gives a lot of inspirations to Mr ROGER HENRY LINDAN (whos also a big fan to satriani) in Beluran.amazingly,he(che) could touch the skills of satriani when playing this song.may this song bright ur skill development in future endevours.
Jesus fucking christ I love this song. I'm trying to learn it myself, cause most of the parts aren't hard. But what's really hard is getting it to sound so... lovely :S
I think this is Satriani's best song. That's my opinion.
i would have to agree... he i'm sure is using some reverb, chorus, and delay and for sure a whah pedal. and he's using a tube amp so the distortion sounds very bright and sparkly... a sound your not going to get from a solid state amp... once you play on a tube amp distortion... you'll never go back to solid state... check out the carvin V3, or the jsx joe satriani's signature amp.
I actually weren't talking about the effects. It's really his playing that makes it sounds so emotional and awesome. If he were using my amp and guitar it would still sound 10 times better than I can do.
want to hear a great song... check out a song from gary hoey called fade to blue... that song is emotional as well and very difficult, makes this song look easy... but it's an amazing song... i doubt you'll find it on youtube though :(
it's not fade to blue(s) it's fade to blue singular. tough song to find but i can guarantee if you like love thing.. you'll love fade to blue... simply an amazing song...
Good Question. I wont be surprised if he use loops because his pedal board is big enough to accommodate a loop effect. Though he has a backing guitarist he might use a loop effect to play 3 or guitars in the mix.
This is an assumption but not a definite conclusion.
Such a beautiful song. Who's better? Who cares? It's all about how music feels, not about technique or speed. If you can't understand that then sell your gear because you're in it for the wrong reasons.
There is no such thing as who is the best. Only whose music you like best and enjoy the most :). Gilbert, Petrucci, Steve, Joe , Eric or Malmsteem whatever. They are all talented. I enjoy Joe Satch, Steve Vai and Eric Johnson's music the best

So... I was taught the beginning of this song today, and am expected to fully learn it so I can play it in public in 13 days. I'm officially screwed.

most of his gain comes from a pedal which is solid state..the power amp section of his amp adds gain on top of it.
cyanide533 2 years ago
Your comment brings me a question i asked to myself: Does he used loops with pedals on the backside of his amps or in the middle of two pedals?
