  • I love to see the lead guitarist, but i guess its a session recording?

  • Hi,Love ziggy stardust.Thank's for the post.

  • This video would be awesome - if it werent for the fact that there's a REALLY high pitched noise in the background. I assume it has something to do with the transition from tape to computer or something. The song itself is AWESOME - just that noise. . . . URGH!

  • Thanks for pointing that out arsehole, haha.

  • Thanks for being a troll, haha.

  • fuckin legendary songg

  • What's the difference between this and the original? And is this one from 1972 or 1975?

  • This one is from 1972, the original is from 1969, if you type in "space oddity 1969", you will see the original, there's a big difference in the sound compared to this one.

  • this is up there with the first songs i can remember hearing

  • wow major tom must really be depressed...

  • the man is a genius

  • Excellent video!

David Bowie is too much for this planet

  • eyebrows r for fags lol

  • hey stop picking on his eyebrows - Ziggy wouldnt of looked right with eyebrows! just concentrate on the awsumness of this song! and David! <3 love!

  • magnificent voice

  • no it isnt this is the what I would call the re-done acoustic version the original in which,David Bowie sings faster ,this version was made from sometime between 72-73 these are the dates ive heard idk if they are right but this is what ive heard

    best regards,

    ,Mitch

  • Is this the original 1969 version of the song?

  • This is the original bad idea on shaving eyebrows.

  • I don't think so, there is an older one with LOT'S of tinfoil :L

  • this is 1972. the original is quite funny lol

  • it's to stop sweat getting into your eyes from your forhead

    (Bowie Anonymous)

  • no your not straight

  • camera man sucks

  • dude, this thing is old.

  • i mean with the zooming in and out.

  • He looks Like Emily DaVinci in this video !

  • His eyebrows where abducted by aliens ! I hope they didnt take any other private parts as well .

  • and then left him with that mullet xD

  • I am in need of help. I love this song, but I'm sure the first time I heard it there was a bit with a sort of bubble-popping sound? Am I getting confused with another song?

  • There is another version of this song from Bowie's promotional film "I Love You 'Til Tuesday" that sounds a lot different. There's a posting of the clip of the song here on youtube, if you're curious...

  • I realised soon after I posted that I'd been very slow and got confused with Ashes to Ashes - not sure quite how that happened. :D Oh well, I am wiser now!

  • I think that version is also on the CD release of "Scary Monsters."

  • If you look at the difference of him then and now, he looks amazingly different. Then again it was the 70's.... But ROCK ON BOWIE!

  • Amazing song.

I just noticed...look at the second digit on the countdown clock. Is it actually counting up instead of down?

  • No, it's just the effect of the miliseconds going so fast, that it tricks the eye into believeing it's going in reverse.

  • bowie is awesome

  • Wow, that is a whole different side of Bowie, probably my favorite Bowie song other than under pressure(ft. queen).

  • I enjoy his Platform shoes :D

  • if u turn him at an angle, he looks like cynthia nixon. TAKE THAT SEX AND THE CITY. bowie rules.

  • yeah i agree this is one of the greatest songs of the 60s but i lost him when he wrote ashes to ashes.

  • No, this isn't one of the coolest songs ever written. An original absolute classic, especially the hooks and breaks. If I could write one song like this I would lose my mind!! (Or maybe gain it back...) It's sci-fi inspired by the seeking of the stars at the time. A great time to be alive!!

  • this has nothing to do with space travel it had to do with his struggle on heroin

  • cool song. give it a 4

  • its such a sad song but i love it stiull david bowie is so talented he is my fave singer i love his lyrics

and lol i love his hair its bloodu awesome well maybe bnot the couyler of it but still lol....

    amy flowers

  • Me encanta esta canción es mi favorita...

  • This song makes me so sad for some reason, but it is a beautiful one, David Bowie sure is skilled

  • it's a very depressing song so it's good that you are sad. Major Tom is lost in space that's why he says tell my wife I love her and why his circut goes dead.

  • its about an LSD trip

  • no, its about space travel. it was released to coincide with the moon landing. it wasn't about an LSD trip. but i could see how it could be.

  • 帅啊 我非常喜欢他啊 现在的垃圾没法跟他比

  • did he wax his eye brows?

  • yes he wanted to look androgenous; and alien like... so shaving his eyebrows was the way to archieve that effect to his judgement (weird-o).

this is probably to reflect that he IS major tom and that he's leaving behind his humanity (thus becoming ziggy stardust), when his first album came out he had eyebrows i believe his transformation came when he was performing this song and then wrote other space songs like 'the spiders from mars'

  • how kick ass would it be to dress up as bowie in halloween :D

  • unfortunately many trannies have chosen that style already, you would probably just get ridiculed and beat up

  • great song! :)

  • actually the song was relieased in 69

  • LOL 69.

  • LOL, YOU LOLLED 69, NATURAL 20!

  • This song was done in 1970..Video is 198???? Its simply a video with background (great) music

  • Who ever said that he is playing the wrong chords, you are an idiot. And he does play the guitar, look in the album sleeve, he wrote every song and played the 12 string .

  • i would love to see a "Cape Canaveral" liftoff with oddity but i am not sure if and how it could be done. learning..help

  • Muy buena esta canción

  • David Bowie does play guitar. It doesn't look like he's playing because its just a music video. As for the chords, the intro is just Em and Fmaj7.

  • Actually this is a very easy song to play on guitar.

I don't think that David Bowie even plays guitar. If you look close he's not playing the right chords. He's not really even strumming in time. XD

  • what chords does he play? please tell me something easy he plays very easy

  • intro is em to c

    then the bridge is c f g a

  • IT IS THAT! Good man, a fellow musician. Good good good. Hit me up sometime, man.

  • This is my 2nd favrote Bowie song. 1st is life on mar's. I don't care what most people say about his looks, I think he looks cool.

  • My favorites too, and Bowie has aged well. He still looks great. Great minds think alike.

  • omg he has no eyebrows! I never noticed before lol

  • nice eyebrows haha man that guy was weird

    but a good artist indeed

  • and has great teeth :D

  • god i love him.

    he is a fucking genius!

  • 1987...18 yrs old, not doing well adjusting to being an adult. Landed in a really expensive mental facility in FL, w/the adults because too old to be w/teens. 24 yr old paranoid schitzophrenic has an accoustic guitar, I have the Bowie anthology. I just took my evening triple dose of Dyeserel, he just took his Stellazine...

  • (cont'd.)...He'd play, I'd sing, in the lounge, our eyes starting to turn red, everything around us getting as clear as a bowlfull of Vaseline. We were surrounded by other patients, everyone in the same frame of mind, wither because of the meds or the illness itself, most likely both. You cannot believe how surreal it was. The song is the very sound of fractured mentality to me.

  • bitchin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • my bunk at summer camp did this song in the camp talent show now when ever i hear it i think of them...

  • Bowie was so ahead of the times.Fantastic artist.First time I heard this song, made my mom make a pit stop at the record store.I was 8 yrs.old.Sounds the same now as it did then.Awesome to the max!

  • Doesn't get much better than this - but it does with David Bowie!

  • classic.........met him outdide whitechapel art gallery in 1973.........one of only a few artists who keep on re-inventing thmselves.with success!!!!!!!!!

    "a stayer"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • such a nice acoustic guitar

  • david,sei grande!!!!!!

  • I absolutely love this song. I am writing a short story based on it. XD

  • Someone should make an X3 reunion vid of this!

  • Does anyone know who the film is credited to?

  • i love this song man

  • nice

  • dude this would be a great song to trip out on acid to thnks for the idea lol

  • try weed first then acid and yes its a fucking trip

  • Deng di dong di dang de BA BA! XD

  • Muy buena esta canción

  • I love this song

  • believe itor not, the first time i tripped acid, was to this song

  • great song

  • I like the "mai jor" Tom London (Brixton?) accent at the end. Wot a larf. I wish he had left his teeth the way they were. Now they are too big for his face.

  • Bowie ordered producer (Visconti) to sound this song like...Bee Gees!!!

It was pretty hit but didn`t kick Bowie into stardom. Bowie visited the low point of his career before got the chance with Ziggy project. I suppose this video (promofilm) wasn`t made in 1969 but in 1972 -- Bowie is Ziggy here already, in 1969 he was still a long haired hippy.

  • he's sooo hot. except in this video

  • David Bowie really just looks strange in this video

  • It sounds so much cooler than CD versions when you listen to the record. I bet it's even more incredible live.

  • Good point

  • of course he's God. he NEVER AGES.

  • LOL

  • yes i do, i just heard lennon when i listened to the song thru my head phones. Bowie came out the right side, Lennon out the left. wow, im a jerk ass

  • I'm pretty sure David Bowie is god, he is worthy of worship

  • Did Major Tom cut his own circuit? Is it an allegory about a drug addict losing touch with humanity? One of the best, saddest songs ever written.

  • I love Bowie

  • oh so lady like.

  • One of the greatest songs ever written.

"Planet Earth is blue, and there's nothing I can do..."

  • I love this song and this video!!

  • I think David Bowie is a God...

  • If you think David Bowie is weird... you need to take a look at the "Emo" species, now theres a true oddity

  • That it VERY true

  • How now, Brown Cow?

  • This song remebers us Lady Blue of Enrique bunbury?

  • Only got into DB a week ago and he is excellent.

  • it was written as compliment of his name, David Bowie= David Bowman, Space Oddity= 2001 a Space Oddysey

  • completely awesome!

  • a gd song, but don't u think david bowie is wierd?!?

  • aren't we all

  • Ah, *sigh* David Bowie, one of the greates songwriters and performers america hes ever seen and probably ever will! cheers to Bowie!

  • not just america mate, the whole world!

  • I couldnt agree more...

    Bowie is awesome

  • amen brother amen.

  • no offence, I aint no brother, I'm a girl m8...

  • my bad, kinda hard to tell over youtube lol.

  • It's ok...

  • it wqas actually written and released as sort of a protest against the space program even though bowie was a fan of science fiction, his second persona was ziggy stardust-or rrather alter ego

  • According to me, this is Bowie's best song and one of the greatest ever.

  • One of the most classic songs i've ever heard

  • amazin

  • There I was round my M8 Nicks house in Clapham,London listening to this in 1968....THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS AGO:(..Where have all those years gone....seems like 10/15 years ago!!

  • Yet you say you're 26?

  • Great song. Epic

  • one of his best songs

  • j'aime bowie je l'adore !

    super ce mec!!

  • beatiful and wondefullllll, song , and the gread album.

  • does anyone know the tabs to the 2 solos can you recommend a good sight

  • When this song came out, there was a big stink for years that it was about drugs. It's not. Bowie is a HUUUUUUUUGE fan of science fiction and fantasy.

  • Actually, I've heard that same thing. I've heard that it could have been about 2001: A Space Oddysey, which pretty much revolutionized Sci-Fi for years to come. Make sense to me.

  • Die-Hard Patriots fan here, me & my buddies have to listen to this song every time a Patriots game comes on. Listen to the words again and it's pretty much self-explanatory why its our Pats song ;)

  • bowie is the bradbury of music

  • best bowie song

  • John Peel said when he premiered this on his show, he wished it would go straight to the top of the hit parade and stay there forever. But he didn't think it would. It did.

  • Classic! und piratical

  • bowie kicks ass

  • bowie owns

  • bowie is the shit

  • wonderful song!

  • the song is great but the video isnt synched with the music

  • scarey ?

    he was hot

  • Does anyone else find this scary?

  • Planet Earth is blue, and there's nothing I can do.

  • Oh Bowie.

    I love you.

  • this is what you can call a timeless song. you really can't tell what decade it's from. this could be a song made today or it could be a song made 40 years ago

  • I want some protein pills!!!! That looked like a pretty cool trip in the studio (snicker! snicker!)!

  • Bowie is not god.

  • ew, w/e stupid jew >:o

  • True, but I'm sure God'd be a fan.

  • i concur(spelling?) if God wasnt a fan, why would he give bowie that talent

  • bowie is god

  • Amazing!

  • great song

  • actually is 37 years old. it came was released in 1969 and re-released in 1975 :) i just looked it up a little while ago and it said differently :-/

  • wow can't believe this song is 35 years old ! great tune.low budget. but you got to love bowie.

  • It is a duet with John Lennon. If you listen carefully you can hear his voice.

  • john lennon was murdered in 1970, 2 years before this song was made, he couldnt have done a duet.

  • Um, John Lennon was murdered in 1980.

  • John Lennon was murdered in December of 1980, whether or not he is singing on this song who knows and who cares but you should have checked your facts before you stepped out to make that statement. Or at least tried not to act like a know-it-all when the other guy probably knew more than you.

  • The duet between Bowie and John Lennon was a few years later when they recorded "Fame" together. They didn't meet each other until 1974.

  • The re-release was 75
