It's funny the fancy names people will give to what they should be doing anyway. But unfortunately, this does not come naturally to many, and they need to be taught how to love their own children, as so many wear their children as a trophy. It's funny to watch a woman show off her child, vying for a compliment from complete strangers, i.e. letting them run through the mall so someone will say, "Oh look how cut." But watch that same woman fuss at that child in the the parking lot! SMH.
I LOVE this form of parenting!! I was adopted and think suffered some reactive attachment symptoms and felt like this would give my son something I lacked when I was a baby. We are so close and he never needed a pacifier or stuffed animal to soothe.
I have practiced attachment parenting with my six year old son since birth, and I think it was the best thing I could have done. We have a really close bond, and its helped me be a lot better mother (especially when he went through a very difficult hitting period when little)
poor video because it does not explain what attachment really is, or how to develop it. Just saying to provide consistent and loving care is not explanatory at all! Its stating the obvious.
Great video! Research has shown that attachment parenting is a nurturing and common sense approach to parenting. Trust me the prisons are not full of people who were raised with an attachment parenting approach!
Speaking of objective information. I'd like to know of those parents watching this video, what are the cons of attachment parenting, and what are other models? Being around for your kid, emotionally available, that just sounds like regular old parenting to me.
Don't forget Dad!!! Mums aren't the only ones raising kids. Our boys especially need to see that they do not need to abandon sensitivity and love to move into manhood.
gee, this is really a groundbreaking way to do things. gosh. "provide consistent and loving care"?!?!?! wow! that's really eye opening! where do I send the check?! thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you! GENIUS!
Who the hell is going to follow all these damn steps what I say is raise your child the best way you can and make sure its appropriately.Otherwise your child will be all spoiled and overprotected all its life. This is so fruity to me.Its not like their pets they will become young adults one day.Kids need dicipline. This only teaches kids to be too attached to their parents.
I agree dunrobinsgone, there wasn't 1 man to be seen in this video - they might as well have called it "attachment mothering".
Since my daughter was born, I've cut down from a 5 day to a 3 day working week to allow my partner to work and so I can be with our daughter till she's ready to start nursery. Here in Sweden, this isn't so uncommon.
To any father thinking about doing the same, I say "Go for it!". Those early days go so fast and you can never get them back.
That was vaguely disturbing. The mother makes it sound as though to work out of the home would be akin to neglect. You can have a job and practice attachment parenting.
To reply to the first commenter: Nothing was said in the video about discipline, but let me assure you - people who are properly practicing attachment parenting are disciplining their children. Don't judge the philosophy by the nutjobs who think love means never saying no.
Obviously you don't realize the value of a child. You don't see any errors in your life so you want to just raise your child like you which, from your comment, I believe would be quite counter productive. Children who are subject to attachment parenting are very independent children when they are adults. They have a better sense of self worth. They know the true value of life and do not find themselves getting caught up in a society with low self esteem and thus lowered moral choices.
What crap. Kids need to be taught self sufficiency and independence so that they are not 25 and still in the home. This video makes kids out to be more like pets than people. The lack of discipline we see in young people today is because parents either ignore their kids entirely or spend too much time telling them they are more special than anyone else; the seeds of arogance. Kids today need their arse kicking. These little puddles of pudding will not stand up for what's right in their lives.
they make this method (whatever it is- based on lack of solid information in the vid it sounds like an intro to a much more involved "cult" system) sound like it is absolutely vital. imagine how many people in the future are going to blame their problems and failures on the fact that their parents didn't "attachment parent" them.
Your crazy! attachment parenting makes a child MORE independant...not more dependant. My son is really independent, because I met his needs for closeness when he was little.
In other (most) countries, like th UK, it's just called parenting.

Yes because only 'attachment parenting' can supply these core needs and gives these mothers the moral highground.
