All the soldiers seen here are wearing their army-pattern greatcoats because it is winter. RAF greatcoats are double-breasted (for all ranks), not as flowing and is shorter.
Also, non-commissioned officers in the RAF wear blue sashes instead of red ones.
one thing i want to know is why they have changed their colour and are now wearing more blue outfits than red is this coz of europe or whatever coz they always used to wear red what happend?
Seems like a few well placed grenades and an M249 would get us in the East wing. Half of them are armed with band instruments. I guess all of the treasure is not inside the building. Maybe they are guarding all of the cool hats and extra band instruments. Hey goaliemanshubi, I believe that is inspecting the ranks. Just a guess. I think it is cool that they still carry out tradition, I bet it's not the kind of job you get by just walking in off the streets. "Hey man, like, are you guys hiring?"
@Sharkjaws101 Yep, definitely not the kind of job you get by walking in off the streets. Instead you walk into an army recruiting office and if you are lucky enough to join a Guards Regiment, you will have the honour of doing these ceremonial duties next to your normal army deployment to all conflicts that Britain are involved in. These guys are serving soldiers, not just ceremonials. And that's what i think makes this even more amazing
@Sharkjaws101 My dear boy, the Foot Guards are one of the most formidable fighting forces in the world! I challenge you to find any Guards regiment around the world better!
I think you'll find that in addition to the garrison at Windsor Castle, there are a few dozen Scimitar tanks stationed at Victoria Barracks. Along with several hundred guardsmen, armed to the teeth with assault rifles and ammunition to boot.
So at the first whisper of armed hostility, you'll have all of that charging up to Windsor Castle; not to mention the police.
Good luck trying to take them out with, 'a few well placed grenades and an M249'.
indeed surprise attacks have an advantage, but not without decimating enemy within first five seconds (because these men probably know what to do when under fire). So not without grenades, and even then there would be the luck factor. Remember that 3 elite soldiers may (in favorable terrain) well defend against 100 rookies. And I believe that The Queen is well protected.
Yes, like emptyangel said, I believe there would be a great deal of retaliation for the tossing of a few grenades. These guys haven't built and maintained such a formidable power over this many years by backing down. As far as the 3 elite soldiers in favorable terrain, you are correct, and this is their home court. I dont think we would even know they were there until it was too late. I believe that our own White House is protected just as well, not that anyone here cares right now.
I am no authority, but I believe it is the "bridge" or introduction to any following march, and I would guess that that is about to be "Scipio" for the Grenadier Guards or "The Black Bear" for any Guards Regiment returning to barracks.
Would some musically and ceremonially knowlegible person confirm or correct me, please.
Those are the Army regular ranks the names change depending on what cap badge you have, so in the royal artillery you are a gunner, in the armored division you are a trooper, if you are in a guard regiment (coldstream guards E.C.T.) you are guards men but the concrete ranks are still there.
@alex471996 staff sergeants and colour sergeants are the same rank, you are a colour sgt in an infantry regiment and a staff in a corps oh and you missed out Company Sergeant Major it comes before RSM
So is an RSM a regimental sargeant major? All the subtle gradations of sgts is very confusing to a civilian. The U.S. Army has staff sargeants, sargeants major, tech. sargeants, & staff sargeants. The USMC has a whole different system, w/ gunnery sargeants & such. I won't even attempt to understand the British system.
Yes, It started after an IRA attack on a section of Foot Guards in 1980. For a while there where no knap-sack like cloth covers, which looked strange.
why is he telling his men to stay still, they are standing like frickin statues! you could probably poke one of these dudes in the eye and he wouldnt wince
he's first adjusting their lines and dressing as they move he's telling them to stand still to stop their movement. the men moving are just off camera left no's 3 & 4 in rank.
i love the way the officer out the front is just about to give the guard release party "in open order right dress", before the sergeant (the guy at the back in the red sash), has got there.
I wished one of them would say "there is more then a company of Zulus coming sir". LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

@patrickd7794
Drum majors are interchangeable and go where they are needed, they are not permanently appointed to one band.
Regardless, the band is of the Coldstream Guards.

The march they play entering the castle is, "To Your Guard," while the march being played on exit is, "Washington Grays."

Wow the british system is easy.
Private
Lance corporal
corporal
sergeant
staff sergeant
colour sergeant
Regimental Sergeant major

Didn't I read somewhere that the Guards have a slightly different nomenclature, which includes "lance sergeants" and some others?

Yes, in case of a terrorist attack they can quickly radio for help. I also heard it contains some jamming device or something of that sort.
