One of Parker's greatest solo. Essentially defined bebop while making alto players across the country snap their instruments in despair.
I can see why Miles didn't have too many fans at this point, though. He's possibly my favourite jazz artist, but he really had yet to hit his stride and come into his own. He was still playing someone else's music, and he could pull it off but it wasn't really working out for him. Technically he was no Diz - but then he proved later that he didn't need to be.
This is the best of the best. In the beginning, the alpha and omega of jazz, bebop call it what you want. The first real sax solo is heard in this tune. Miles was splendiferous. Bird was magnificent and the band in its entirety made history.
@budhaBOSS He learned the saxophone by failing miserably to the point where he almost quit music, and no disrespect, he did read music to an extent. But obviously he is much more than that. Talent is a huge part of that.
@timmy841212 you know that all versions that Gillespie played sounds different right? :-P that is what bebop is all about :-) but yea in this version i to believe it is Davis

@connorwilliams3232 Eh. It just depends. Some player poof out their cheeks. Personally I don't. I think it makes the airflow weird, but obviously some of the best players like to poof their cheeks. It's a personal preference thing.
Dizzy doesn't play on this one... The band is Charlie Parker alto, Miles Davis trumpet, Lucky Thompson tenor, Arvin Garrison guitar, Dodo Marmarosa piano, Vic McMillan bass, Roy Porter drums.
@vummeli Thank-you! People so often mistake this recording to be with Dizzy, it drives me nuts! Dizzy played in one of the dial sessions that took place a few days around the time that this session with Miles Davis took place. But any true Dizzy fan would be able to tell the difference in style easily. Moreover, by overlooking the fact that Miles is playing in this session, people are overlooking an important time in his career and the history of Bebop in general.
Just look this recording up in any discography and calm down. This is early Miles, 1946. He sounds a little like Fats Navarro, who sounded quite a lot like Dizzy, especially with a mute. Miles didn't start out sounding like he does on Kind of Blue. He used to copy other players just like everybody else, and at the time, everybody tried to copy Dizzy and Fats.
Is it Dizzy or Miles? Sounds kind of pointless like Miles' later music.

Great era! Because of the 78cpm recording time limitations every soloist had 8 or 12 or 16 bars to perform. So, they tried to be comprehensive

Sorry, but why don't you change the title, 'cause there's no Diz? And he won't come along to tell you.

Dizzy Gillespie wrote the song, but, on this recording, Miles Davis plays trumpet.
