i can do a good amount of AIME problems, derived pythagorean theorem from scratch all by myself, and got an 800 on the SAT math...does that make me talented at all?? lol
@wearymachine these things you said you´ve done aren´t high level stuff.... have you ever seen an IMO problem? pick up any imo from the last 20 years and if you can do any of those than yes, you are fairly talented, at the very least. If you can do lots of these IMO problems than you are probably a genius. These problems are the hardest of the hardest. Trust me.
@ColdGambler lol honestly, the way i said my comment was kinda implying that i'm nothing (below the ground level) next to these ppl...i've read IMO problems before and they're pretty ridiculous...
@wearymachine hahah ok.....but you mean ridiculously hard right? And you are not "nothing", you maybe an extremely talented person, the thing is, sat, aime, etc only tells us that you have a minimum level, it does not tell us anything about your upper bound of intelligence (sat is pretty easy actually), you can be a genius. And another thing, IMO requires training and practice, most of the contestants learned a variety of techniques, they didn´t come up with all of them, but rather learned them.
@minifoo8 Just an anomaly. The truth is that most of them would do well on the Putnam. Maybe this field medalist wasn't trying hard enough, or maybe he did not reach mathematical maturity until graduate school. Either way, the putnam exam shouldn't be much of a problem to someone with the mathematical knowledge and aptitude that a fields medalist typically possesses. So potential fields medalists should be able to ace the putnam, but the converse is not true, though..
great vid! I love math sooooo bad; I'm just sad cause I'm not that smart to go to IMO. We have IMO bronze medalist on our college, and I can say that I'm pretty fascinated by those people.
theyre all asian xD

I've been told by my professor that he knew a field medalist who tried out a Putnam test and got a ZERO.

@minifoo8 Yes but doing not so well on the putnam doesnt imply that you do not have the potential to do well.

Your comment is worse. Do you even care about someone else's feelings? I could now rank top 500000 now, but that's still not bad.
