Hognose snakes won't harm a person; it'll flatten its neck, hiss, strike even, but I don't think they will ever actually bite. In fact, a Western Hognose will tame quite well and do great in captivity eating mice. The Eastern variety is also tame, but it is harder to feed as it eats only frogs. I am glad you didn't kill it---it's a very cool snake.

As people have said, it's a Hognose. Their saliva is toxic to their prey. A human is much larger than what they eat, so any bite would be minor to us.

Nice video, shouldn't be harassing it though :P I'd rather keep a snake in the backyard than the mice or rats that could potentially be back there.

I find it funny that so many people "hate snakes" and like to kill them. But they hate rats and other rodents, too...which carry deadly diseases like hunta (spelling?) virus.

Snakes are more scared of people than we are of them - they want to get away, and we try to provoke them and make them seem 'mean' for trying to defend themselves when provoked. This is the huge misconception nowadays. Even poisonous snakes don't want to waste venom on a human they can't eat. They use it for food.
