  • The EIGHT friend?!?! Clive is definitely a creep!

  • Men have facial hair naturally. Deal with it, females... godz

  • @gustjorodedheo and women naturally have body hair...men don't seem to be able to deal with that well either...

  • They didn't just shoot that rabbit. It was stiff!

  • Aah, the (almost) first appearance of Alec Scudder! I love how he gradually sneaks around the edge of the movie, until during the last third he really becomes such a major character and driving force. Plus, he's extremely adorable. Rupert Graves is such a talent, and so beautiful to look at. I can't imagine anyone else in the role of Alec.

  • This film is brokeback english style. I think this is the better of the two.

  • notice simcox stare at maurice 07:09, as if he really knows something

  • what an asshole, he screws over his boyfriend and then expects him to take part in his wedding.

  • omg that mustache.....

  • LOL people lay off the stache! At the time, most men had moustaches.Besides, it doesn't look that bad. Better than my dad's mullet/moustache combo in the 90's...

  • So here's a fabulous movie of an incredibly touching novel, and most of the comments are about moustaches...

I feel like I'm going insane.

  • @missypomful HAHA agreed!

  • @missypomful FINALLY someone who understands.

  • at least maurice looked half decent with his mustache... Clive just looks silly

  • The mustache seems to have leaped onto Clive's face. Lets hope it transfers the Maurice's sorrow.

  • "They don't suffer as we should in their place." WTF?

  • @hviw Maurice's statement always struck me as ironic considering what happens to him later and the life he needs to pursue to avoid suffering.

  • The Oscar Wllde sort.

  • Clive got a mustache and a beard. :(

  • Got half way through the previous part and I was like hallelujah the mustache is gone!!!! The joy was short lived....and it ruins clive's face even more than it ruined maurice's!

  • Why did they have to write stop at the end of every sentence?

  • @shinshin1000 Because otherwise there'd be a lot of misunderstandings.

  • He was doing what every man does in the showers measure up

  • corpore sano!

  • Hey - say thank you when your future lover wishes you happy birthday!

  • Hmm. Seems this moustache is an STD of some sort...

Oh you were all thinking it!

  • @Glaerdrune I agree. It's an STD... on your face. It doesn't get any worse than that xD

  • The eighth friend, that bastard.

  • @backyardriot I have this book and I wrote what you said next to the telephone passage.

  • Could Rupert Graves please call me? And then marry me. Possibly have my babies.

  • At 7:11 (hee) we see Simcox peering at Maurice, and Alec!

  • poor maurice :'(

  • Oh no, now Clive's got the syndrome too! I wouldn't be surprised to see his wife with a mustach in the next clip!

  • I was sqealing with delight when I saw that Maurice got rid of his sexy stache. Now Clive has one! Argh!

  • If I was Maurice when Clyde called I would have hung up on him. F U and your soon to be wife. Leave me OUT OF IT! :(

  • Such ignorance back then. The cure for being attracted to men is...a pretty young woman! Kind of like how the cure for alcoholism is to just drink tea, that'll do it! (I suppose technically that would work, but my point is the idea of there being a "cure" for something firstly not a sickness - though alcoholism is that - but also not "curable" by just forcing oneself to replace it with the opposite)

  • @tehlinebeginstoblur nvm my last reply.

  • The moustache...the moustache...

  • That girl is so ugly! And what's with the bloody mustaches?!

  • Thank god, Maurice got rid of that horrible horrible mustache!

  • i went from "YES! he shaved of that dead rat on his lip!" and then right to "NO! Clive! it was NOT UP FOR ADOPTION!" xD

  • i feel sorry for Maurice =<

  • Hey! Anne's actually really pretty in a very edwardian sort of way.

  • this is the one that the problem some of gay couple.. its not LOVE! its a game.. not real feellings.. clive! he so such a big bullshit!! fucking crazy.. guy! if im there with them i will tell to him "you're not worthy your not seriously to me.. you will be mistake s on my love for you.. damn! you.. damn! you..." huhuhuhuhu. MAURICE.. can you be mine? i will promise and i swear that i will love you with all my heart..

  • The mustache RETURNS!!!!!

  • WTH! omg lol...Maurice loses the mustache and then all of a sudden Clive has it. I found that funny..I don't know why.

  • @retrogryffgurl lol they just had one in the prop department i assume.

  • whts with the mustache

  • How would showing your penis to a man cure you of being gay? Im just saying lol.

  • The doctor thought Maurice had a STD, so he was looking at his genitals to see which kind it was.

  • yeah I got the reason why the doctor wanted to see it. Its just when you think about why Maurice went there in the first place, and then how the 'appointment' started it is just ironic.

  • @Sarcastic07 Wonderful point, Watson!

  • haha one shaves the moustache and the other grows one

  • @Sharebyakuya that means their sould mates : )

  • Maurice just got molested by a perv on the train...*shiver*

  • @lisambofoh Yeah it was pretty creeptastic

  • Can anyone tell me why this novel had named MAURICE ? PLEASE

  • @Yodjidh Because the main characters name is Maurice

  • I love how when one of them has a mustache the other one doesnt tht is soo funny lol

  • That scene on the train with the old guy made me laugh for some reason!

  • "Find yourself a pretty young woman. she'll soon cure you." Holy hell! It's so sad there are people who still believe that today.

  • unfortunately true and gay men who are still getting married to women - ruining both their lives

  • I understand that the mustache and hair is the time period style but seriousl this is a movie, I can honestly say that nobody would care unless you like every little detail to be correct.

Few people look good with a mustache, my dad looks better with one but he's 57, so I don't think that counts. And my brother also looks better with a beard and mustache, but I'm used to it so I also don't think that counts.

Get rid of the facial hair PLEASE!!!

  • I know... It would be so much better if they just had no facial hair. I mean, if a guy with a moustache kissed another guy with a moustache, wouldn't they get all messed up and... yeah... didn't really think that through.

But I love your name... So true...

  • It looked like he wanted to seduce him or something. Kinda weird though.

  • What was with the old man at the beginning?

  • This was my reaction: "Oh goody, Maurice got rid of the bloody moustache, that's -- Bloody hell, Clive!!"

Damn, the people who made this film must've had some kinda obsession with facial hair.

  • @kuvasz13 dude!

that was like the same exacting thing i was thinking!!!

    lol

  • @JayKay189 Hahaha awesome xD

  • @kuvasz13 Oh God, same. I think I did a double-take.

  • Oh my. That's a very young rupert graves. Loved him in 'The Forsyte Saga'

  • On Hugh Grant, that 'stache is really a turn-off. So unsexy.

  • Anne Woods has a unibrow!

  • I guess she's never seen Sesame Street, "you know Bert!"

  • how uncultured times. they had no education related to sexuality. probably he did not use his penis at all, and the uncontrollable sexual excitement was scaring him. poor Maurice.

I can imagine living in such an ignorant time.

  • There are many places in the world where's sexuality is still considered a taboo.

  • They swapped facial hair! Oh Hugh Grant, take off the stash and PLEASE wash the gell out of your hair.

  • y he is crying it is because of clive ?

  • gAH one's hot and then the other's ugly!! then the other gets hot then after that the other gets ugly!!

  • i think its the mustache... it travels from one guy to the other...lol, the moving mustache

  • @molyapolloangelo hahahah!

  • The actor playing the family Doctor is the late Denholm Elliott, he was gay and died in '92. He was an accomplished actor with a long list of movie credits, some dating all the way back to WW2.

  • she played cordelia in brideshead

  • I loved the reference to Oscar Wilde!

  • agh.. both maurice and clive look so much better clean-shaven. i hate moustaches :L

  • you're right.XD

  • Anyone care to clarify exactly what was happening in the train car with the old man?

    Great movie, btw. x3

  • i think maybe the old man..assumed some things about maurice. like gay-ness sorta things, which maurice didn't like.

or else that's the picture i got from it, anyhow. i guess it's down to interpretation :)

  • An old gay man makes a pass at Maurice, basically giving Maurice the idea that this pathetic existence is what he's destined for if he doesn't change, hence the reason he seeks out treatment first from the family doctor, who was completely useless and then the American psychoanalyst.

  • Also, I adore this Scutter character. He's so cute ^^

  • The moustache seems to skip from one to the other of them to signify who is the more confident at the moment. Isn't that interesting?

Also, this Anne woman is quite un-pretty.

-_- I think even a heterosexual man would prefer Maurice...

  • Yeah, she´s not a beuty...

  • that is very interesting ^-^

she has two catterpillers crawling across her face above her eyes...

  • Isn't she the same actor who played Celia in Brideshead, now all grown up? I liked her acting in Brideshead, not so much in here. I agree, she's too plain for this role..

  • I think the whole idea is that clive married a woman who isn't bvery pretty, because gay men don't really care if their wife is pretty or not - they are not sexually attracted to her anyway...

  • Yes, it is Celia. But I think that she has a specific beauty, not sexual attractiveness though.

  • i don't know if her acting has lost any quality, the role might just not be doing her any favors--i think she's supposed to be a bit boring.

  • Now, this is a mean remark, isn't it :)
